Acoustic and Electric Guitar, Beginning Level 1 with Vocals (Ages 6-17)

Does your child love music and want to learn how to play the guitar and/or sing? Young musicians will learn how to play popular songs using easy fundamental music theory, correct techniques, basic chords and timing. There’s even a performance opportunity at the AT&T Center for a San Antonio Spurs Game! Concert participation is not necessary to attend this class. Youth & Teen Classes PSAT/SAT Seminar (Grades 9-11)

Doorway to College Foundation presents a five-hour seminar which will allow students to become more familiar with the PSAT/SAT while providing an opportunity to improve their scores. Although time and effort spent working on materials covered in class is a factor, experience shows that this seminar is effective! Students who take this seminar achieve an average score increase of 5 to 20 points on the PSAT and 50 to 200 points on the SAT. College application season is right around the corner! Are your kids prepared? This course is designed to walk students through the college application process from beginning to end, providing insights into the best way to present themselves to potential universities. Older students will learn how to present their best selves to potential schools. This class would be most beneficial for students enrolled in 8th through 11th grades. Creat’em and catch’em with Snapology in Pokémania! The world of Pokémon® will come alive as students create their own gyms, battles and their very own generation of Pokémon® using LEGO® bricks. Science concepts will be incorporated in a fun way as students learn about and build the habitats for their Pokémon®. Join Origami enthusiast, Carol Johnson, in learning the history, use, tips and techniques of the ancient art form of Origami. Students will fold their way into a samurai helmet, jumping frog, fish and hat. Students will also have the opportunity to add character to their creations and learn about the art of Zendoodling. What does Finding Nemo and Pixar have to do with writing a good college essay? In this class, students will learn what colleges are looking for and how to master the art of storytelling. Kendra Thomas, a former Head of College and Career Counseling, presents tips and techniques to writing a college essay that will be sure to leave an impression on their applications. This class would be most beneficial for students enrolled in 9th through 11th grades.

Spring into the season with “raindrops” of watercolor, butterflies and flowers galore! Young artists will create colorful, one-of-a-kind butterfly wings and will combine chenille pipe cleaners and beads to complete their very own beautiful spring butterfly. Young artists will also learn watercolor techniques, with the guidance of trained Art Starz instructors, as they paint a large flower in the style of famous artist Georgia O’Keeffe. Does your child enjoy the thrills of science? Then this workshop is for them! Young scientists will learn how electrons create static electricity using a Ven de Graaff generator. North East ISD Community Education Driver Education Program North East Independent School District Driver Education has been teaching teens for over 35 years. Successful completion of the NEISD Driver Education program can result in a 15% discount on auto insurance. The full program includes 32 hours of classroom instruction, a minimum of 14 hours in-car training and requires 30 hours of driving documented by a parent/adult.

FOR ADULT CLASSES: We are proud to welcome and admit students 18 years of age and older and of any race, color, national, or ethnic origin to all classes. Students under 18 will be permitted to register only with prior consent of the Instructor and Coordinator and may be required to have an adult sign up with them. You do not have to be a resident of NEISD to take any of our classes. FOR YOUTH CLASSES: We ask that you adhere to the age requirements listed in the course description. We do not allow children to accompany adults to class, nor do we provide child care. GENERAL INFORMATION—The Community Education Program of NEISD is conducted for the benefit and enjoyment of community patrons. Classes are offered for people of all ages regardless of where they live. Classes offered are non-credit. Financial support for the program comes from class fees. Classes are for adults only unless specifically noted. Every effort has been made to make this publication accurate as of the publication date; however, all policies, tuitions/fees, instructors and class content are subject to change at any time by appropriate action of instructors or administrators of this program. Financial support for our program comes from class tuition. All classes, including free classes, require pre-registration. Tuition fees are due at registration. Early registration is encouraged to avoid class cancellations due to low enrollment. Registration for some cooking and crafting classes may close two business days before class time to allow instructors to purchase supplies for class. REFUND POLICY—We are happy to refund tuition, less a $5 processing fee, when you cancel your class two full working days prior to the first class meeting. If request for refund is made one working day prior to the first class, one-half refund will be made. Refunds for payments made by credit card will be processed to same card used and will take 24-48 hours. Refunds for cash and check payments will be made by check and will take 7-10 business days for processing. We are unable to refund any tuition money the day of or after the first class. Request for refund must be made by calling Community Education at 407-0140 option 3. Instructors are not authorized to approve request for refunds. No refunds will be issued if you fail to attend a class. DISCOUNTS—NEISD employees or NEISD residents who are 65 or over with a Senior Star Card are entitled to a 20% discount on most Community Education classes that cost $25 or more.To obtain a Senior Star Card call the office of the Superintendent at 407-0556. Discounts must be taken at time of registration and apply to employees and Senior Star cardholders only, not family members. CANCELLATIONS—If we cancel your class, you will be offered the choice of an alternative class, holdover credit or full refund. Holdover credit can be used toward any class. Registrants will be notified by e-mail or phone if class has been canceled. Refer to “Refund Policy” above if you wish to cancel your class. CONFIRMATION of registrations will not be sent. You will be contacted only if a class is canceled or is already full when your registration is received. RETURNED CHECKS—A fee will be charged for each returned check. SUPPLY/FOOD FEES—Some classes have a supply fee which is payable to the instructor at the first class. This fee is in addition to the class fee, which is paid to Community Education and is noted in the class description. Policies—North East Community Education reserves the right to change class instructors when necessary. North East Community Education also reserves the right to refuse enrollment to participants with a history of unacceptable behavior. On occasion, we need to change room assignments due to class size requirements. Upon arrival for your class, please refer to the Building Supervisor and/or classroom signs for final assignment. INSTRUCTORS—We make every effort to ensure that instructors are knowledgeable in the subject that they are instructing, but the views, opinions, and beliefs discussed by the instructor do not necessarily reflect the opinions of North East Community Education.
