2022 Institute Impact for Workers Award
IMPACT FOR WORKERS
AWARD
The National Institute for Workers’ Rights, NELA’s sister organization, is proud to present our inaugural Impact for Workers Award to the Kazan McClain Partners’ Foundation for its longstanding support of the Institute’s Workers’ Rights Advocacy Scholarship Program. The Scholarship Program broadens access to NELA’s CLE programs, including this Convention.
The Kazan McClain Partners’ Foundation generously has provided funding for the Scholarship Program every year since the Program’s inception in 2007. Since then, the Foundation’s leadership support has made it possible for nearly 300 workers’ rights advocates to attend one of NELA’s CLE programs. Scholarship recipients include public interest and legal services attorneys who represent workers, law students who are deeply committed to practicing plaintiffs’ employment law, and attorneys in private practice who are dedicated to the field and have demonstrated financial need.
Established in 1994 and located in Oakland, CA, the Kazan McClain Partners’ Foundation has disbursed over $20 million in grants to a wide array of community and civic organizations. Its mission is to benefit the public through grants to organizations and individuals in order to: support research into causes of, treatment for, and prevention of occupational and environmental diseases; increase and improve public awareness about workplace health and safety, and public health; enhance access to, participation in, and education about the legal system and governmental processes; advance programs that provide services which lessen the burdens of government and/or provide relief to the poor, distressed, or under-privileged; and combat community deterioration and lessen neighborhood tensions. Its expenses are defrayed by the Oakland-based law firm of Kazan, McClain, Satterly & Greenwood.
