We have three learning centres in North East Lincolnshire and a team of specialist staff to support you in making the right choices. Free information, advice and guidance is also available, for adults aged 19 and over, from the National Careers Service, which provides independent and impartial careers information, up-to-date details on courses, funding and practical help to find you employment. Payment of fees
All course fees must be paid at time of enrolment and must be paid in full by the end of January. We accept the following methods of payment: • Cash • Debit/credit card Courses costing more than £200 can be paid in two instalments. You will be liable for the full course fee irrespective of whether you complete the course or not.
Fee remission:
The following groups may be eligible for free tuition or a reduced fee: • Unemployed people in receipt of Job Seeker’s Allowance • Unemployed people in receipt of Employment Support Allowance (Work Related Activity) • The unwaged dependants (as defined by the Benefits Agency) of those listed above • All English/maths programmes • Those aged 16-18 (not eligible for non-certificated courses)

If you are over 19 years and have never gained a full Level 2/3 qualification then you may be eligible for free tuition fees.

Courses
Free English and maths qualifications An easy way to improve your skills and learn while you earn. Attend a course with others who want to learn too. With busy lives, work and families to consider, CLS wants to make it easy for you to improve your skills. There are courses from the basics up to Level 2 in both English and maths. These courses will help you if you are considering returning to work, changing your career or supporting children with school and homework. There are various times, dates and locations to fit in with your life style. We offer class-based learning to suit your level and subject. You can learn at your own pace and work in small classes with experienced teachers and volunteers.

Employers: Your staff can learn whilst they earn CLS offers the opportunity to support your staff who may not have an English or maths qualification through “on-the-job” training. Benefits to you: • No cost; • Better qualified staff; • Delivered on site - with little disruption, no need to release staff for any great length of time; • Support given through functional learning relevant to the employee’s role; • Contributes to the employee’s development plan in line with supervisions and appraisals. There is no cost for this service, all we ask for is a commitment from both you and your employee and a strong working partnership with the same aim. This service is all work based and relevant to the role they undertake within their work place. It is structured to allow your employee to work towards the achievement of Functional Skills Qualifications at Level 1 and Level 2 depending on their starting point. Depending on the employee’s role they can work towards either English and/ or maths and at a pace to suit them. The teacher/assessor will work alongside your employee at set times and will identify work to do either during work time or in their own time depending on their workload. This will be assessed and developed through regular visits until they are ready to sit the exam. Making Choices - 12 hour orientation course The aim of the programme is to help you make an informed choice about choosing a career in working with children, young people and families. It covers diverse services available, roles and responsibilities and training and careers opportunities involved in working with children, young people and families.
CACHE Level 1 Award in an Introduction to an Early Years Setting You will gain a basic knowledge of childcare including the value of play, roles and responsibilities of carers and volunteers and the importance of developing links in the local community. It covers working with children up to the age of five years.

CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce If you want to work at supervisory level then this qualification is aimed at 0 -19 years. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas and is spilt into three pathways: Early Learning and Childcare, Social Care or Learning and Development Support Services. Direct Learning Support
An Introduction to Teaching and Supporting Learning in Schools – an Introduction (formerly Teaching Assistants) This is a three week introduction to the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools qualification (formerly the NVQ).
Certificate in Teaching and Supporting Learning in Schools Level 2 This is for those who work with teachers in classrooms supporting the learning process in primary, secondary and special schools. It is suitable for volunteer helpers in schools. You will normally attend a two/three hour weekly session and additionally, it is expected that you work as a minimum of seven hours a week in a school – either employed or as a volunteer. The qualification is achieved by the production of a portfolio of evidence. There are also opportunities to access this programme as a work based learning qualification - please ask for further details if you are interested.
City and Guilds Working with Parents Level 3 Practitioners will be delivering frontline services to parents/carers in Children’s Centres and/or extended services in schools. This is the most relevant qualification for parenting practitioners who are working at a preventative or universal level with parents. It is designed to: • Equip you to deliver frontline parenting services with essential knowledge and skills to enable you to work with parents effectively. • Support those individuals new to their work role as well as provide continuous professional development.
City and Guilds Working with Parents Level 4 This is aimed at managers or potential managers delivering parenting services. It is suitable for anyone who wants to develop the skills you need to work effectively with parents, helping them to understand their role and meet their children’s social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs in family life.

The volunteering qualifications are unit based with a wide choice of units available at each level. Candidates produce a portfolio of evidence which is internally assessed and externally moderated. CVQ candidates achieve qualifications by gaining the required number of credits. Candidates need to achieve 8 credits for a full level 1 Award. Further qualifications are available at level 2 and 3 for the more experienced volunteers. You can play a role in reducing health inequalities in the community - and you’ll be able to apply your skills across a range of different workplaces. Who are they for? A Certificate for Health Trainers is a good option if you like the idea of working closely with people in your community to promote better health and wellbeing. You don’t need any previous qualifications so it’s a good starting point.

With Family Learning programmes you learn about the school curriculum and how your child is taught and this gives you the knowledge and confidence to further help your child develop and progress at school. Family Learning programmes are free, friendly and learning with your child is fun. Courses include discussions, activity ideas and making resources to use at home. On most courses you will work with your child for part of each session. Some courses aim to support the whole family with literacy, numeracy and reading skills and others cover other aspects of the school curriculum such as history, science, computers, art and health issues. Entry Level 3 Life and Living Skills (L&LS) course New for 2012/13 This qualification has five elements each of which is assessed by building a portfolio of material which is then submitted for your final certificate. It includes understanding the basic elements of computer systems, using the Internet and e-mail plus some text editing work and simple use of media programmes (photo editing). The course may take up to 125 hours. It is longer than the Functional Skills course because of the wider range of material. BCS Digital Skills This course has seven elements which cover a wide range of typical day-today uses of computers. Computer basics, online basic skills, audio and video software, digital photography, digital music and digital media plus social networking are all covered in this new qualification. We have just finished our first year of running this course and learners have been very enthusiastic about the course and the content. All the resources are available online which enables you to progress at your own pace and you are able to work outside the class times when and where it suits you. Progression to Level 1 and above Having achieved an Entry Level qualification, your option is to advance to the Level 1 course for which we offer ECDL Essentials. For Level 1 and above testing is a bit more formal and generally requires you to work without notes or handouts. Your teacher will discuss with you when you are ready to sit the tests so you can progress at your own pace within the hours available. ECDL Essentials Level 1 To help with the move into the more formal testing in ECDL, you will start with a six week “Preparing for ECDL” which are held at the same times as the full ECDL courses so there is no problem in switching days or times. Subject to agreement between you and your teacher you will then move into the formal course which lasts up to 65 hours. The “Preparing for…” course gives you a flying start to the formal course. Your progress can also be much faster if you choose to work using the online resources between class sessions. There are no set dates for testing as it is down to when you are ready. If you have already completed the ECDL Levels 1 and 2 you can “top-up” with two further units at Level 3 plus a mandatory unit. Photo Editing Intro Award
These 10 week courses using Photoshop Elements were very popular last season and classes filled VERY quickly - so don’t delay or you may miss out! Courses are run at three levels, beginner, improver and introductory award. All the courses are based on Photoshop Elements software. In beginners you will become familiar with the basic tools of photo editing, applying them to a set of images which we provide. You will also have the opportunity to practice on some of your own images. The improvers’ course develops those skills further and offers the chance to be more creative in using multiple images and text. The introductory award extends that and works to an Entry Level 3 qualification. Creative Arts
Mixed Media Art & Design C&G Level 2 You will explore a range of mixed media and techniques to include: drawing and painting, collage, printing, create surfaces and develop work from a design brief. This is a really exciting course, perfect to develop your creativity and have fun. Flower Arranging You will learn to arrange flowers suitable for a wide range of occasions, develop an understanding of colour, shape and form and build knowledge of suitable plant material, flowers and materials. Around the World in Flower Arranging This is an opportunity to explore flower arrangements from around the world. You will learn techniques from: Japanese, Italian and Dutch influences. Across Cultures Drawing and Painting You will develop skills in a range of drawing and painting techniques using world culture as the inspirational theme. Art Into Employment Create your artistic identity, logo and business cards. Understand business plans, exhibiting art work and gallery knowledge and applying for funding. All you need to know about being a self employed artist. Bead Making You will learn how to make beautiful beads using polymer clay. Polymer is a plastic based clay that is very versatile and gives fantastic results. Use your handcrafted beads and turn them into pieces of jewellery using basic jewellery techniques. Bead Making with Influences of South America During this course you will explore the wonderful colour, patterns and shapes of beads from South American countries. Creative Embroidery This is an opportunity to learn creative textiles techniques. You will be able to choose an area of textiles to study selecting from: embroidery hand or machine, patchwork and quilting and felt making.

Traditional Hand Embroidery You will develop embroidery skills working from a range of traditional techniques selected from Stumpwork, Goldwork, Blackwork, Canvas Work, Hardhanger, Pulled Thread, Counted Thread and Cross Stitch, Beading and AppliquĂŠ. You will work at your own pace and individual supervision will be given as well as group demonstrations and activities. Introduction to Embroidery from Around the World You will learn traditional techniques from a range of European and other world cultures. You have the chance to work with an experienced teacher and will work towards developing samples or maybe a finished piece.
Drawing and Painting Techniques This is an opportunity to develop skills in a range of drawing and painting techniques.
Face Forward – Portfolio building/portraiture You will learn how to use the drawing book as a journal or resource through which to develop an interest in portraiture. This will involve recording creative techniques and imagery developed through regular practice and observation of contemporary and historical portraiture, along with some theory about the subject and identity.
Embellished Bag - Indian Influences/Felt and Stitch Level 1 This will include construction, embroidery and embellishment techniques with world cultures as the inspirational theme to produce a beautiful, decorative bag.
Decorative Glass Beginners will make a simple sun catcher using copper foil (Tiffany) method. You will learn how to cut and grind glass, and use a soldering iron. More experienced learners can further explore this method or learn new skills to produce 3D items, leaded glass panels and fused glass samples.
Cultural Self Expression Drawing inspiration from historical and contemporary artists such as Frida Kahlo and Paula Rego, you will make work that explores other cultures and our own through art.

Stitch Into Print You will learn printing techniques, surface textile decoration and embroidery techniques using both hand and machine embroidery, stitching into printed fabrics. World cultures will be the inspirational theme.
Positive Steps – Poor Mental Health – Drop In Sessions This course is designed to support learners who want to build up skills in painting and drawing but are not yet ready to commit to a full course due to poor mental health. Research shows that creating art can improve mental health and well being.
Mosaic Glass This is an opportunity for beginners and experienced glass workers to create a glass mosaic panel, using the work of Spanish architect, Antoni Gaudi, as an inspirational starting point. You will learn a wide range of mosaic techniques.
Garden Mosaics/Spruce up the BBQ/Patio Area This is an opportunity to learn mosaic techniques. You will produce a garden plaque to hang on the wall, cover plant pots or table tops. This is a really creative and absorbing craft.
