Shuttle 22 20 Cork
A celebration of fine art and fine wine. PR ES E NT E D BY
Dear Friends, I could not be more thrilled that we are together, under the big tent, for ShuttleCork 2022!
Thank you for being part of the most essential and largest fundraiser of the year for The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art! Thank you for
supporting our mission to keep the doors open to all people and to
continue offering free admission to this cultural jewel. Thank you, as
well, for helping us welcome schoolchildren to our museum, because that’s where the love of art is so often sparked for a lifetime.
I am especially grateful to Mary Bloch, our longstanding co-chair of the event, and to our new co-chair, Mark O’Connell, who is also a member
of our Board of Trustees. Together with their amazing committee, they
have made this an unforgettable fundraiser that is two nights of fun and celebration.
Last year’s event showed me just how supportive and creative our
community truly is. ShuttleCork 2021 was a virtual gathering, a year
when we brought the party to your doorstep and counted on you to join
2
the fun from the comfort of your home. Even though we were not together in person, you contributed more than $1 million to the museum and made it the top multiday fundraiser in
Kansas City in 2021. I am deeply touched by your generosity! This year, we can experience the joy of being together, in person, watching each other bid for fabulous items, fine
wines, and one-of-a-kind adventures that will make long-
lasting, shared memories. I ask you to raise your paddles high and bid often! İSaludos!

Welcome to With great pleasure, we welcome you back in person to ShuttleCork, an event that celebrates connoisseurship in many forms – fine wine, exceptional food, and world-class art. We are honored to co-chair this special benefit supporting The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and are delighted that it has evolved into one of the premier fundraisers in Kansas City. As in past years, the event begins with six “Winemaker Dinners” in lovely private homes, and we are most grateful to each of our hosts. This evening brings us to the Nelson-Atkins, an unparalleled setting, where guests are invited to connect with other wine enthusiasts and take part in our lively auction. We invite you to spend time looking over the details on the following pages, guaranteed to capture your own sense of connoisseurship with exciting possibilities. We express our deep appreciation to each of our fabulous Corporate Sponsors, especially Bank of America, which graciously agreed to be our Presenting Sponsor for the ninth year in a row. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the ShuttleCork committee members, along with numerous others who have contributed to these memorable evenings. Finally, we thank each of you for your passionate support of the Nelson-Atkins, our crown jewel of Kansas City and the focus of ShuttleCork.
Cheers,
MARY BLOCH

This takes the cake Local baker JC Gregg, who has appeared on the Great
American Baking Show and is known for his stunning and
delicious French macarons, has prepared a gorgeous cake for
one lucky bidder and his or her table mates to enjoy during the auction. This fun and playful dessert is composed of several layers and flavors which include spongy, creamy, bubbly,
crunchy and wobbly layers, all covered with a mirror glaze. It’s a true mixed-media masterpiece, and you can work off the
calories raising your paddle for other treasures this evening. Accompanying this masterpiece with be a bottle of MOD
Selection Rosé Champagne, debuted by rapper Drake, also
known as Champagne Papi. The bottle’s sleek, warm metallic exterior is embellished with French floral accents, which is
hand-designed by artisans in Champagne to ensure no two bottles are identical. This package, to quote Drake himself, “Last name Ever, first name Greatest’.

California Cult Wine Cellar Collection The Napa Valley may be too young to have developed a
classification system, but the area’s greatest wines rival those of any region in the world. These top bottlings are often
tagged as the “Cult Wines of California,” and this lot contains rare and coveted offerings from superstars such as Harlan Estate, Bryant Family, Lokoya, and Hundred Acre.
Wine Spectator’s Robert Parker has rated one of the included wines as a 99 on his 100-point scale – a score well into the
upper echelons of his ‘Extraordinary’ category. Which wine?
We humbly suggest you try them all and see how your palate matches up.

works of contemporary art. ARTnews (2014–2018) named Christy and Bill among the world’s top 200 art collectors.

Going Once, Going Twice, with FIRST and SUPER SECOND growth Bordeaux Ahead of the 1855 Universal Exposition in Paris, Napoleon III ranked the most storied Château of Bordeaux from First through Fifth Growth, with First Growth being the five best
estates in the region. While there is still no single producer
that tops those original five, there are several Second Growth and Right Bank Château that have reached a quality that is every bit on their level. Those wines are often referred to
as “Super Seconds.” With this lot of both First and Super

Personally, we believe that honor goes to the winning bidder for this prized collection of world-class Bordeaux.

Cloister Gallery Dinner Ten couples will enjoy dinner prepared by James Beard
Award Winning Chef Kevin Nashan of Sydney Street Café and Peacemaker Lobster and Crab in St. Louis and Peacemaker
Tulsa, in one of the Nelson-Atkins’ most revered galleries, the 14th century French Cloister, paired with exquisite and highly acclaimed wines from Bryant Family.
Don and Bettina Bryant have established one of California’s premier First Growth wines, the Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, now among Napa Valley’s most
acclaimed labels. Bryant Estate wines are currently harvested, blended, and produced entirely by hand from grapes planted and grown on the original 13-acre estate, as well as on
neighboring vineyards on Howell Mountain, Las Posadas,
and Madrona. Bettina Bryant will be in attendance to lead the
group through the vintages that will be poured throughout the course of the evening.
44
Chef Nashan seamlessly incorporates his wide variety of
culinary experiences and influences into seasonal, locally sourced creations. His French training shines through his
food while his time in Spain shows its lasting impact in soulful sofrito-based dishes and the innumerable cured products in the pantry. Nashan believes that sourcing locally should be
expected, not celebrated. Nashan won a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Midwest in 2017, after being a finalist in the
category in 2014 and 2016 and a five-time semifinalist. He
has even cooked for President Barack Obama, which puts our winning bidders in lofty company. · Date: Saturday, August 27 · Buy in for 10 couples · $7,500/couple
