Last month’s message was all about my pops. So for this one, my mom gets the honor.
A Message from the Agent
April is home to Earth Day. On Earth Day, you’re supposed to be reminded of why you love the Earth, and how you can help it. You see, we as humans are pretty lucky to get to call this planet home. I’ve never been to Mars or Venus or Saturn, but from what I learned in grade school, I’m pretty sure I’ll stay here. Growing up, my mom was constantly outside. She mows the grass, pulls the weeds, and makes the outside of our house just as much a home as she makes the inside. My mom taught me to care for my piece of the Earth. To love it, nurture it, water it when the skies aren’t doing a good enough job, and never let it look dead (the horror!). I will be the first to admit that I’m jealous of her love for mowing the grass. I see it as a chore and a hassle and I’d prefer to pay someone to do it for me. But that doesn’t make her lesson any less effective. I hate to mow. I could just choose not to. I could choose to not worry about the health of my yard or plants, since I’m not very good at keeping them alive. But instead, I care for the Earth by having someone else do it for me. It’s still my mom’s lesson, it just looks a little different. Sometimes I think as parents, you worry that your kids aren’t listening to you or that you’re not getting through to them, just because they don’t act the same way you do in a certain situation. That’s not always the case. Most often, the lesson is there, they just play it out a different way. So keep up the good work. Keep teaching. They’re listening.

Earth Day 2015 Here’s a couple of ways you can celebrate Earth Day this year! 1. Plant a tree. 2. Plant wildflowers. 3. Have a garage sale or donate items you no longer want. 4. Upcycle a piece of furniture instead of buying a new one. 5. Make a bird house. 6. Educate yourself. 7. RECYCLE! And teach your kids about recycling. 8. Pick up trash along the road or at a park (please, be safe while doing so!) 9. Ride your bike. 10. Save water. 11. Wash your car with a bucket of water instead of a running hose. 12. Get your kids involved! 13. Reuse something you would normally throw away. 14. Make and use your own green cleaning supplies (call us for recipes if you missed the class last month!)
