The University of Kentucky Physics Petting Zoo is a hands-on classroom tool. It consists of 24 stations, each presenting a hands-on physics activity. These are simple and yet instructive, so
safe for students to handle and experiment with. In November and December, 4H Agents in Nelson County made visits to several schools including Bardstown Elementary School, Foster
light” and some of Newton’s Laws of Physics. Youth really enjoyed the spectrometer (pictured), which gave them an opportunity to look at “white light” and see just
that all age groups enjoy interacting with them and learn from them. All components of the Zoo are

Kids Vote 2016 The Nelson County 4-H Teen Council and Homeschool clubs volunteered for the “Optimist Youth Vote� booth, at the Nelson County fairgrounds, during the presidential election in November of 2016. The voting event encourages youth to share
their voice and they learn the history and importance of voting. Special thanks to Nelson County 4-H Volunteer Cleo Philon for coordinating this great civic learning opportunity.

Homeschool Club
St. Ann’s School Seahawks 4-H Club St. Ann’s Seahawks used the Conservation Officer, Kaelin McWilliams to tell the club about bears. A bear was spotted not too long ago toward the back of the school, so the topic was very appropriate. St. Ann’s 4-H Club will have a December “Holiday” meeting and continue to bring in “pop tabs”.
On November 17, 2016 at the Blue Grass Home Educators meeting, we learned about Mammoth Cave. We saw some cool pictures of caves & some creatures at Mammoth Cave. We also played in sheet caves & drew pictures on a paper wall. We did bat crafts too! Then after crafts we played fruit salad & don’t show your teeth! Those games were pretty fun. Teen Council
On November 15, the Nelson County Teen Council met at the Extension Office. At this meeting, Caleb Enlow became the new secretary for the Council. Also, the
Council decided to discount the Nelson County 4-H T-shirts, and help people whose name was on the Angel tree. After the business portion of the meeting, members played a

Last Stop Holiday Shop If you missed the “Last Stop Holiday Shop” event this year, you may have missed out on some great items. On December 10th, 2016, the Nelson County 4-H Adult Council, along with
the Nelson County 4-H Micro-Business Alliance Club, teamed up to put on the event. Close to twenty vendors showed up to visit with the community and market their wonderful
products. Be on the lookout for the event again next year and check out the next page of this newsletter to see some of those wonderful, once-a-year items!

St Jude’s Ranch for Children Recycled Cards Program A great after holiday service project! Drop them off at the Extension office in January! They also accept used, all-occasion cards. They are currently in need of Birthday and Thank You cards. “The children participate in making the new cards by removing the front and attaching a new back. The result is a beautiful new card made by the children and volunteers.
