On February 20th, 2018, Nelson County 4-H and FFA welcomed Kentucky Department of Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles to the Nelson County Clerk’s Office to support and promote the Kentucky Ag Tag Program. The Ag Tag Program utilizes a $10 optional donation from those renewing their farm license plates in order to support Kentucky’s youth in their pursuit of greater Agriculture Education. Funds from the donations are split amongst state and county level FFA and 4-H programs and are used to fund youth in a variety of capacities including, but not limited to: leadership conferences, scholarships and club sponsored activities. The month of March is the Ag Tag Program’s biggest time of the year! Please consider checking the box for the $10 optional donation when you renew your farm tags in 2018! Kentucky 4-H and FFA programs appreciate the Nelson County community’s generosity and support!

Bluegrass Christian Home Educators

More From Teen Summit 2018!!

January.26.18 Bluegrass Christian Home Educators traveled on a 4-H field trip to our state capitol, Frankfort, where we toured the towering Old State Capitol, the serpentine KY History Museum, and the awesome Military Museum. What an exhilarating adventure! At the Old State Capitol, there is a staircase constructed of floating stairs. The key stone is a very large stone that holds the staircase together as the only support. Many of the builders were prisoners. The man that planned the building wanted it to look like a Greek monument. The plaster was done by one man. While there, we replicated a meeting of the senate. Our

senators voted to raise taxes to build an iron fence to keep horses off the capitol’s lawn. At the Kentucky History Museum, we saw Daniel Boone’s gun and a casting mold of his skull. Many cars like the Ford model T were represented. Good Ole Abe Lincoln’s watch was recorded ticking for the movie about him.

Teen Summit Nelson County 4-H 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders attended the first of three KY 4-H Teen Summit Sessions on March 8th-10th. By the time Session 3 is complete, Nelson County will have had 4 teen delegates, one Fashion Leadership Board Member, a SET Board Member and a STC Member, attend or help with Teen Summit. We cannot thank Nelson County 4-H Volunteer Katie Lyvers enough for taking our delegation to Jabez, KY in 2018. Make sure you reserve your teen’s spot for Summit in March of 2019!

Right across the block was the Military Museum. There were many interesting guns, cannons, and etc. Your 4- H Homeschool Reporter, Elliott Redmon
