Teen Conference Photo Club News!

Photography Club gets 3 new, ready to use cameras. Club Leader Ashley Patterson is now ready to rock!

Nine teens attended Teen 1 State Teen Council Conference in Lexington, Member, and 2 Gold, 3 KY on UK’s Campus from Silver, and 2 Bronze June 13th to the 16th. These aren’t just any teens, as amongst these nine teens there are the following: 2 Fashion Leadership Board Members, 2 Shooting Sports Ambassadors, 4 Camp Volunteers,

Achievement Award Recipients. A star-studded crew, and some of the best young adults Nelson County has to offer! Join for Teen Conference next year, and continue the Nelson County 4-H tradition of “making the best, better”.

4-H Market to Market Ham Club Banquet Ham Club Members auctioned off their County Fair Hams on July 26th. Congratulations to Trace Smathers for Champion County Fair Ham! 4-H Livestock Shows (Hog, Beef and Dairy) Between the Nelson County Market to Market Ham Club, Beef Club, and the Nelson County 4-H Dairy Club, their were over 25 exhibitors that participated in livestock shows at the Nelson County Fair. These youth know what it takes to be responsible for the

care of another life in the form of their animal projects. There are no requirements to join the livestock or dairy clubs, we welcome all youth who are interested in learning! AND wow, do we have some special kids?! Pictured: Caroline Hayden

Junior and Senior Horticulture Judging Teams

Nelson County 4-H Junior and Senior Horticulture Judging Teams took a field trip to the University of Kentucky Campus in Cooking Club: Civic Engagement

4-H Cooking Club prepared Tacos, Fajitas and Dessert for Bethany Haven Families on June 28th. We have kids with BIG hearts!

Lexington to learn more about the trees, plants, fruits and nuts that they will have to know for the Kentucky State Fair Competition in

August. We have a pretty good feeling these youth are going to “bloom” into Nationals!

FoCUS (Food Chain Under Survey) Our FoCUS group met for the second time on May 26th. We went to the Coulter’s Farm, Adam Wheatley’s Farm, and Peterson’s Grain Farm amongst many other stops. What a day! Next up? The study of commercial venues and value-added production grown in Nelson County using food and the crops and the surrounding

Commonwealth. Then a trip to Chicago! Contact Luke Fries or Robbie Smith for more information.

Nelson County Fair Public Speaking and Talent Contest The seventh annual Nelson County Fair Public Speaking and Talent Contests were held Saturday, July 9, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Nelson County Fair Pavilion in Bardstown Kentucky. The Nelson County Farm Bureau (NCFB) Women's Committee organized the contests. NCFB sponsored over $900 in prizes along with awarding each participant a one day pass to the Nelson County Fair scheduled for the following week July 18th through the 23rd.

Talent contest 4-H member Champion winner was Trace Smathers and Reserve went to Alexis Raisor. Public speaking 4-H member Champion winner was Martin Williams and Reserve went to Caleb Enlow. County FFA 1st place winner was Martin Williams with 2nd place FFA winner was Savanna Hill.

Sylvia Horlander, Reporter for WBRT Radio Station, was Master of Ceremony. With a packed pavilion Horlander introduced six talent acts which completed in their various mediums for five minutes. She introduced eleven public speakers who spoke two minutes about anything agriculture related.

NCFB winners Alex Raisor, Savannah Hill, and Martin Williams will advance to Kentucky Farm Bureau Fifth District Contest held October 27, 2016 at the Anderson County High School where they will compete against eleven county winners for the 5th District award. From there the winner will advance to the Kentucky Farm Bureau State Contest and Show at the Galt House in December.

Other participants in the Talent Contest were Scarletteann Williams, Sarah Hall, and group "Faith Elements Dance" members - Nevaeh The Nelson County Fair Board awarded a full weeks pass to the 2016 Doyle, Leah McIntosh, McKenzie Holcomb and Summer Primeaux. Fair to the two open show winners of the Talent and Public Speaking Other participants of the Public Speaking Contest were Kayla contests. Chapter FFA Clubs and Nelson County Extension 4-H also Smathers, Garrett Hall, Haley McClain, Katye Berry, Selena Allen, recognized their participants. Jasdon Cambrel, and Katie Allen.

NCFB member winners: 1st The purpose of the talent contest is to recognize young people and give place $100 - Alexis Raiser, 2nd place $50 - Benjamin Williams. them an opportunity to perform before audiences to gain valuable experience in the talent and entertainment field. The purpose of the Winners of the Public Speaking Contests - Open show: 1st place $100 - speaking contests is to promote youth involvement in county activities Izzy Neel, 2nd place $50 - Martin Williams. NCFB member winners: and to recognize leadership, achievements and awards in their schools 1st place Male Category - $100 Martin Williams, 2nd place Male and communities.
