Kenya Climate Challenge Project (KCCP) KCCP works at the local level, connecting lower secondary to upper primary schools, adding the important element of Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation which is rights-based and child-centred, thus adults are involved and can lead and advise, but essential ideas and direction come from the participating children. The team of 25 students and 2 teachers from each secondary and the nearby 3 ‘feeder’ primary schools work together on an intensive, participatory ‘shared learning and action’ programme. The critical focus is to explore the risk of hazards or disasters occurring in the locality and to guide the children involved to identify how they are affected and ways in which they can act to build their own capacity and assist in offsetting those risks.
