Hundreds of people ran, jumped, slid and swam around a muddy Wairua Warrior obstacle course on Saturday, giving the fledging event a great start. The race was held at Happy Valley Adventures in Cable Bay where entrants could compete in either a six kilometre obstacle course or a double lap at 12km.

Event organiser Greg Witika says he is pleased with how the event took shape. “The day has been fantastic. We had a really good contingent of people coming through for our first event.” He says he is already thinking ahead to next year’s course and making it an annual event. chargers, while the cause of yesterday’s fire hasn’t been determined yet. He says the number of fires is a concern and people need to check their electric blankets, clean out their chimney flue and dust off heaters before they’re used.
