Brothers memory runs on With the memory of his recently deceased brother running through his head and his feet planted in the shoes his sibling was to wear at these South Island Masters Games, Brett Thornalley was a man possessed with grief, pride and determination. Carl was going to run alongside his father, who was targeting the 60m 70-75 year old record. But when Carl passed away in June, aged just 41 years old, Brian says he couldn’t race anymore. “I just lost all interest in doing anything, but Brett said well we’ve gotta do it for Carl because that’s what he wanted,” he says. The day Carl’s brand new Adidas running shoes arrived from the United
