Frosty roads cause trouble Clear nights have been keeping drivers on their toes and some pedestrians on their bum. Overnight temperatures for most of last week have plunged below zero, giving the region a strong frost and icy roads to contend with. Police issued extreme warnings for motorists last week after cars were sliding on black ice. Several minor crashes were reported in the region, especially in Waimea. Some icy footpaths have also meant people walking

Paul Dowell, of Dowell Wholesale Cars, says hosing off cars isn’t the ideal way to start your day but he is enjoying the crisp starts. The cold weather is great news for snow bunnies though with Rainbow enjoying big crowds at its open day on Saturday.
