With children surrounded by sugary treats, it’s getting harder to maintain healthy teeth, but some pre-schoolers were given some advice on how to keep their smiles for the long haul. Stoke Montessori had a helping hand last Wednesday with oral health educator Esme Palliser, from Nelson Marlborough District Health Board, coming to talk to both children and parents about the importance of health care for their teeth. While health and nutrition are part Stoke Montessori’s everyday routine, oral health is their current focus, including healthy foods for children’s teeth, how they should be brushing their teeth and emphasising the need for regular trips to the dental nurse. Colgate and the New Zealand Dental Association also provided toothbrushes and toothpaste for each child, which were handed out last Wednesday, and funding for resources to help the Montessori continue to educate their children on oral health care.
