The future of Nelson’s library is in your hands. $14.9 million has been set aside in Nelson City Council’s Long Term Plan for the re-development of the Elma Turner Library

in 2021/22. But a vision for the upgrade is yet to be determined, because council is seeking community input both on the elements and services that should be included in the scope of the project.

“Whether we keep it the same size, refurbish the existing building, or whether we go for a new

development or an extension to the existing development – we want people to tell us,” says Nelson Mayor Rachel Reese.

There is also the possibility that the existing 28-year-old riverside building could branch out into the adjacent ex-Mediterranean Foods building, which council acquired in 2006 for any future

library developments.

Rachel says they’ve already had “plenty” of feedback from resident’s surveys and through library users and are also keen to collaborate with adjoining landowners.

“We’ve heard that people like the riverside location and we’ve also had feedback from people who

said they would support a café in the library as well as more community gathering spaces,” she told Nelson Weekly.

“We know the library is really important to many residents - it’s a busy space. Libraries are community living rooms, great social

Hottest December and wettest February Nelson experienced its hottest December and wettest February since records began more than 150 years ago.

The reports are part of why Nelson is focussing on climate change in its next Long Term Plan.

Niwa and Australia's Bureau of Meteorology last week issued a statement to document the strange weather over the last few months.

It found that more than 50 places in New Zealand set new summer temperature records, and another 50 had their second or third-hottest summer.

This included Nelson, which along with three other locations, experienced its warmest December, with records going back to 1862.

Many record, or near-record, high summer mean maximum and mean minimum temperatures were observed across all regions of the country.

The hottest summer on record also brought extreme rainfall events - including Cyclone Gita, which brought mass flooding to Nelson.

Nelson recorded 234 mm of rain for February 2018, which made it the wettest February in its 156-year historical record.

“Certainly, we’ve been seeing, and I think we should anticipate more intense rainfall events and drought conditions. In the last 12 months, we’ve seen the extremes.

“I think, really as a community we should anticipate we are going to see more of those extremes. February was very challenging for us, with the storm surge and ex-cyclones.

We should expect more of those.”

Rachel says council needs to be engaging with our com-

munity about the risks around climate change but also focusing on what we can do around “climate action”.

“So we’ll be looking at the next 10-50 year period and there will be impacts from climate change that I don’t believe are going to be reversible in that period.”

She says equally Nelsonians need to be thinking about what can we be doing to start to minimize our impact.

“If any country in the world can actually get its head around climate change then it should be New Zealand.”

Council to look at helping NEWS charities dump junk

Hunter rescued: A 54-year-old possum hunter has been rescued by Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter after breaking his leg while out in the bush near Eve’s Valley on Sunday. Duty pilot Tim DouglasClifford said it was a routine rescue that all went to plan. “It looks like the hunter has climbed over a log and broken his leg. The paramedic was winched down about 36m to retrieve him and we’ve flown him to Nelson Hospital.” Tim says the bush was very dense and they had to be guided in.

Nelson City Council says they are planning to meet with local charity shops soon to discuss solutions to their escalating dumping costs.

This comes after last week’s revelation that the Salvation Army Family Store on Vanguard St is forking out $20,000 a year on getting rid of rubbish and unusable items that people dump on them after-hours.

Other charity stores in the city have also expressed frustration on the issue, with one manager saying that local councils should be stepping up to find a solution - such a providing subsidies or a reimbursement on their waste disposal bills.

Clare Barton, group manager environmental management at Nelson City Council, says they are aware of the problem and they are happy to talk with stores to better understand the causes and solutions.

But Clare says that, first and foremost, council’s goal is to create a culture where, as a region, we actively choose not to create waste, and reduce waste.

“Council’s focus on waste reduction includes the ongoing delivery of Second Hand Sunday – which aims to help people to benefit from free access to items other people no

longer use, and council fees are set to try and keep waste disposal costs as reasonable as possible,” she says. “There has, to date, been only periodic fly tipping issues in Nelson for things that are unusable, and where these have occurred staff do, where possible, follow up directly with those who have dumped their rubbish.”

She adds that the Nelson Tasman joint waste management

and minimisation plan will be coming out for consultation this year, and council will be encouraging people to submit their ideas on how to improve waste outcomes.

Although council has had no direct report of the rubbish dumped outside charity shops, they encourage anyone who does see items being dumped to come forward and report them by calling 546 0200.

Collision on SH6: Two cars collided on State Highway 6 near Hori Bay Rd on Friday, resulting in multiple injuries. A police media spokesperson said the rescue helicopter was called in from Wellington to attend the crash which happened at 6.50pm.

Initially there were reports of three serious injuries with two people trapped, one in each car. They were both freed, with one suffering moderate injuries and the other minor. At least one person was transported to Nelson Hospital via helicopter.

Easter fair helps schools: Mapua’s Easter Fair went off without a hitch on Sunday, raising thousands for local schools. The event, which saw more than a hundred stalls as well as arts and crafts and entertainment, raised money for Mapua School and its playcentre. However, this year, Dovedale School also benefited. Cyclone Gita hit just before the school’s annual fair, meaning it was left without much-needed money for new furniture.

Trafalgar St re-opened to vehicles Jonty Dine Upper Trafalgar Street has been re-opened to traffic.

The street was transformed into a food and culture hub last December as the council experimented with making the area a more inviting, pedestrian-friendly dining space.

It also offered restaurants within the zone significantly more room for outdoor seating.

Nelson City Council says the closure was always temporary.

“The closure was just for the summer, so we legally have to reopen the road from 1 April.

“We’ve had lots of positive feedback about the closure

“I have heard a lot of positive things from people about it, I really hope they do it again and not just for summer.”

Locals took to Facebook to voice their disappointment at the reopening to traffic.

“Finally, we get some culture in Nelson, a hub to flock to.

It’s the best thing to happen in the main street for years, so how bout we keep it that way?” Cherie Furniss says.

Breffni O’Rourke says the reopening of the street to traffic was a ‘real shame.’

“I have spent more time and money in that area this summer than I have in the last five years. I vote to keep it that way.”

“They have all worked here at some stage, some for 15 years.”

A number of family milestones have also been celebrated at the cafe, which was re-branded to Park Life late last year after Boundary Road Brewery took over the brand Founders.

“We had my twin’s 21st, my wife’s 60th, my 65th birthday here.”

However, he now says it’s time to put his feet up.

“I’ve reached retirement age and my wife Carol is unwell, so I need to look after her.”

He says he will also spend some time doing up the family bach in Lake Rotoiti which

“needs some TLC.” John is selling the building, the brewery and cafe along with everything in it, but not the business itself, and he will keep a few recipes up his sleeve.

“A lot of them are in my head and will stay in the family.”

The brewery has twice won the best small brewery in the world, along with a slew of other titles.

They exported beer to Australia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Denmark, Germany.

“It’s been quite a journey.”

John says he is still going through negotiations with potential buyers.

It was a bittersweet moment when Founders Brewery owner John Duncan closed his doors on Friday.

The Founders Park brewery is a Nelson institution but its final beer has been poured. “It was with mixed emotions,” says John.

The cafe has been a focal point for the Duncan family for the past twenty years.

“If you ever wanted to see us you would have to come to the cafe because we were pretty much here seven days a week, it’s an end of an era.”

The team had a surprise farewell party last week which John says was quite humbling.

“I have loved meeting so many different people over the years.”

He says he's had a base of loyal customers, some of whom have been there since day one.

“I had people coming up to me giving me hugs and telling me how sorry they were to see us go.”

John had employed all five of his children at the cafe over the years.

Nayland College ‘buys aeroplanes’ for April Staff reporter Secondary schools aren’t renowned for their attempts at humour but Nayland College’s April Fools’ prank reached for the skies.

The school suggested that it had just bought a 68-seat French-built ATR 72-500 plane from Virgin Airlines.

Principal Daniel Wilson said the purchase "just makes sense".

"With so many school classes, groups and teams becoming successful in a vast range of academic, arts and sports pursuits, the purchase of the aircraft will reduce the pressure on students who are currently having to endure long bus journeys and expensive commercial airline fares to reach their destinations," he explained.

As for cost, Wilson said although it was significant he was confident that "with regular sausage sizzles and bake sales we can minimise the obvious impact this purchase

will have on our ability to purchase core classroom resources."

And some were fooled too. After posting on its Facebook page, the jaws of some former students and parents dropped at the supposed purchase.

“Got me,” said Letitia Carey. “I was like ‘what the…’?”

The prank even got the attention of the national media, featuring in a New Zealand Herald mashup of April Fools’ jokes from around the country.

Shelley Smith said the prank was “hilarious”.

“The PTA will support the bake sales and sausage sizzles.”

Debra McEwan said it was a “very well thought joke”.

“I don't even like April Fools’ Day but this is great.”

Helen Morrison thought there could actually be some merit to the idea.

“Maybe it could be in the long term plan for the school?”

Tourists bring big bucks to region Sara Hollyman

Tourist spend in Nelson is estimated to hit $358 million this year and $317 million in Tasman.

Owner of Harbourside Motels in Nelson Marina, Cathy Elbe, has also noticed a large increase in international visitors this year.

"Our January numbers show a huge jump between this year and last year.

We’ve had 180 more international guest this January than the same time last year.”

International tourists are the big spenders across the Nelson Tasman region this year, keeping local businesses busy through the summer.

New figures from Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment show that international visitor spending is up 15 per cent in Nelson and 26 per cent in Tasman this year compared to last year.

Abel Tasman Canyons managing director Toine Houtenbos has noticed a significant jump in customers.

“The reason people don’t know we exist is because we work under the cover of darkness,” says Brian.

Councillor Ian Barker says the patrol’s work fits in well with the city’s investment in a CCTV network, which the patrol often monitors from the Nelson Police station. However, the patrol has no financial help from the police and operates purely on volunteers and donations. Nelson City Council gave the patrol $5000 this past year.

For 25 years the Nelson Community Patrol has been out on the streets being the city’s eyes and ears and now it wants to acknowledge the help it has had from the Nelson City Council over all that time.

Coordinator Brian Ramsay says it has been a fantastic relationship and the organisation could not do what it does without the council.

“The only way we can operate is with the council on board.”

The patrol has 20 volunteers who are out every Friday and Saturday night monitoring the

Councillor Mel Courtney says what he values is that the patrol is about “people supporting people”.

“It’s what makes Nelson that special place and gives us an edge. It also supports those police men and women on the front line.”

However, Brian says there is always a wish list and now they are on the lookout for, amongst other things, a new vehicle, equipment and uniform.

“But most of all we need new volunteers.”

Close encounter with SPCA’s smallest animals

Sara Hollyman Nelson SPCA opened its doors to families on Saturday in celebration of the completion of their brand new small animal barn.

SPCA manager Donna Walzl says it was a fabulous day.

“We were absolutely thrilled with the turnout.

It’s great to keep the community engaged and keep awareness up for what we do.”

Children were treated to a range of interactive activities including horse and pony rides, an Easter egg hunt, colouring competition and food stalls.

Donna says the small animal barn has been a dream of hers for many years and to see it completed is amazing.

“To see it come to fruition after all these years is just so nice. These small animals will now have somewhere purpose-built that’s warm, safe and dry instead of being chucked in the office with us.

“The barn will be home to mainly rabbits, but we also get piglets, kids and lambs arrive, so it will be nice for them to have somewhere to stay as well.”

The open day came in the middle of a busy weekend for SPCA staff with two sets of animals being dumped on Thursday.

“We had two kittens found dumped and on the same day a litter of puppies that we were out collecting so it was a busy weekend,” says Donna.

Your Voice Dumping on charity: Not to mention the amount of rubbish dumped at charity bin sites...

What I don't understand is why people dump this stuff at charity shops. They know it's of no use to anyone so why not dump it somewhere else?! It's

so gross to try and disguise your filth as charity. Cara Gee. As a volunteer at a charity shop, my wife and others have to deal with some disgusting things. Inside bags they find soiled underwear, used tampons, rotten food and more. Having sorted out what’s fit for the shop, they then find a lot of pilfering of goods that may be priced as low as $2. What to do about this? It's an issue brought about by a throwaway society, a sense of entitlement and a lack of personal pride at least that’s my theory.

Nelson Matters I have been surprised by how quickly the Ardern/Peters Government has descended into a shambles over the past month.

Government ministers and MPs are abusing their powers and becoming embroiled in scandal; while the new Prime Minister is being made to look ineffectual.

The month began with revelations of sexual offending at Labour’s Youth Camp, where Labour’s President, Ministers and MPs chose to cover up rather than tell parents and police.

The hypocrisy was that the PM and Labour had been very vocal over the “Me Too” campaign in demanding others front up and

take the issue of sexual abuse and harassment seriously. Former PM Helen Clark was damning of Labour’s management.

Last week saw the resignation of respected journalist Carol Hirschfeld, head of content of RNZ in a scandal with the new Labour Broadcasting Minister, Claire Curran. It is crucial in a fair and free democracy that ministers do not interfere in RNZ’s content. The implication was that Ms Curran was offering millions of dollars of public money for sympathetic coverage of her Government. The problem was compounded by Ms Hirschfeld and Ms Curran lying

about the meeting.

Power seems to have gone to the head of NZ First. It was corrupt of its MP Jenny Marcroft to tell the National MP for Rodney; Mark Mitchell, that he needed to end his involvement with a local trust advocating for the clean-up of the Matarangi River or it would not get Government funding. It was also wrong for Shane Jones to demand the resignation of the chair and chief executive of Air NZ, a publicly listed company. He also made the PM look weak when he ignored her pleas to tone it down.

uses gravity to apply traction, the traction gently opens the discs and as they open up they create suction, this suction draws fluid from the surrounding tissue back into the discs, re-hydrating them. This is the key! Discs do not have their own blood supply, they rely on transfer of fluid from the surrounding tissue to keep them healthy and hydrated and over the years as discs get thinner with age, they lose the ability to take on fluid (just like squeezing a sponge) and they start to de-hydrate.

Posture: Poor

posture is one of the major cases of pain and is a major contributor to the deterioration of the body with age. A difference in leg length causes most of the hip and knee issues, as they continue to place uneven loads on the joints; similar to the wheels out of alignment on your car.

Trying to correct posture is extremely difficult due to muscle memory, as it constantly pulls the muscles back to where they were. At a level of 40 degrees or more on the Teeter, the muscle groups open up and eventually come back into alignment, using the table daily, does not allow the muscle memory to pull them back out of alignment and slowly the muscles start to lose their memory and go with the flow, allowing the body to come back into correct posture. Then using the table once a day will ensure it is kept there.

De-Hydrated discs are less flexible, they are harder, more prone to injury, they interfere with nerve roots creating pain and ultimately the de-hydration causes degeneration. The Teeter Inversion table slowly and gently brings the hydration back into the discs, plumping them up. Most want Haulashore jetty repaired Should it stay or should it go?

Almost 60 per cent on Nelsonians want Haulashore Island’s broken jetty repaired with a floating dock, according to an online survey.

The jetty has been closed since late 2016 when an inspection following the Kaikoura earthquake revealed elements of the wharf, including the piles, had deteriorated.

Nelson City Council has been in the process of arranging its removal as the most cost effective option to ensure people’s safety. However, Council has now received feedback from the public asking for this to be reconsidered.

Revamped Nelson heritage event encourages community involvement!

Nelson’s ‘Heritage Week’ has been been a much loved part of the local calendar for many years, and will this year run in its rebranded form as the ‘Nelson Heritage Festival.’ Spread over three weeks (April 9th to April 29th), the revamped celebration of Nelson’s history will revolve around community participation. Council has offered to support individuals and community groups to run their own events to celebrate our region’s amazing heritage!

An exciting line-up of over 40 events is planned, and will be held at various locations throughout the city at councilowned heritage facilities, heritage homes, art galleries, museums and heritage precincts.

Many events will also be run privately with support from

council.

The festival begins with a powhiri at Whakatu Marae on April 9th, with numerous other events in the first week such as: the Enviroschools Time Travel Challenge; a tea tasting session at Isel House and a chance to learn about tea’s intriguing history; an opportunity to hear the memoirs of Percy Bolland Adams at Melrose House (April 12); or people can celebrate 125 years of woman’s suffrage and the love of biking at the Bloomers and Tweed Bicycle Ride (April 13th)! Meanwhile, the Cancer Heritage House Tour is also bound to be popular, offering a unique chance to tour some of Nelson’s finest privately owned heritage homes. “It’s a great opportunity to experi-

Light Nelson returns to brighten up winter Light Nelson will once again brighten up Nelson during July.

Now in its fourth year, the free five-day light festival has quickly become one of Nelson’s largest biennial events, attracting more than 55,000 visitors in its last outing in 2016.

Project manager Sophie Kelly says it’s incredible how quickly Light Nelson has become a key event on the region’s event calendar.

“It’s a fantastic project that features hundreds of incredible artists and creatives, some very generous supporters, and, of course, tens of thousands of visitors.”

Light Nelson is a free outdoor event featuring a dazzling array of light installations on every scale, from a one-person-at-a time port-a-loo tardis, through to magnificent multi-storeyed projections.

“Our audience is a truly mixed bunch, from littlies to elders, from locals to visitors, from family groups to those looking for the perfect date-night,” says Sophie.

“We know that many people come to Light Nelson who might not necessarily go to any other art or culture events.”

In 2018, Light Nelson is extending its footprint across Queen’s Gardens, Albion Square, and the campus for Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT).

Hardy Street will be blocked to traffic, and become the central hub with food and entertainment, as well as the best views of the projections onto NMIT’s B Block.

There will also be a little satellite venue in Bridge St’s Pocket Park.

The selection process of local, national and international artists and creatives has been confirmed, and once combined with NMIT’s Arts & Media students, the anticipated total will be more than 60 light installations.

Light Nelson is supported by The Collective, a group that provides a supportive, educational and creative environment that is open to everybody.

The Collective are particularly keen to include commu-

nity members in collaborative works, creating an environment and opportunity to share skills and ideas.

Caroline Marshal, who looks after all the submissions, says she loves that the event has such a broad range of people submitting proposals - from practising artists and designers, through to school teachers, chocolate makers, scientists, distillers and electricians.

“This year we have a healthy mix of people who have participated in every event, as well as those entering for the first time.”

“Inject tasked me with coming up with two words that identify each of our successful craft beers, including those that are going into glass” says Tracy.

“For the Scotch Ale 1.25L label, I came up with ‘deep and rich,’ so that’s what’s worded on the label, which is a play on the ocean and pearls and octopuses.” Meanwhile, the two brainstormed words for the Sprig & Fern premium lager ‘Tasman Reserve’ were ‘bold and bountiful.’ “So we’ve got a play on

Recently Tracy attended the Institute of Brewing and Distilling Conference held in Wellington, “which doesn’t come to New Zealand very often - every two years it’s in another part of the world. I was

also a judge at the New World Beer Awards where I was a table captain.

In the same period, it was a big week for Sprig & Fern with Nelson Beer Week; we had tours on the Tuesday, then, after I came back from Wellington, I of course attended Marchfest!” The 500ml singles range and the 330ml six pack range will be available from early April 2018!

“We want it to last another ten years.” The bottled range of six award-winning Sprig & Fern beers will be available just after Easter, and customers can expect the usual superb quality and consistency that makes the brewer’s craft beers so distinctive. “Having been

in the industry for 35 years, I have very good understanding of malts and hops and just being able to brew beers to a particular style,” says Tracy. “We like to stylistically correct; if it’s American Pale Ale, we use American hops; if it’s an English I.P.A, we use English hops, and so on.” Sprig & Fern brewing always involves a lot of recording and tracking to maintain product excellence. “We have exceptional standards of quality and consistency, and if you are having a beer in Wellington, Nelson or Christchurch or enjoying a rigger in

Auckland, it all tastes the same, it doesn’t change from batch to batch.”

Also happening in April, a Little Sprig will be popping up in Seatoun, Wellington! “It’s a smaller version of our taverns with a smaller footprint” says Tracy. “We are going to have half the amount of taps to have that nice cosy sort of ambience we are experiencing in Sprig & Fern taverns. We are opening in Seatoun, because locals in the area don’t have anywhere to gather and enjoy good quality beer.” It’s been an exceptionally busy time for Tracy Banner

Nelson Lawns wins tennis cup Nelson Lawns Tennis Club finished the Nelson Building Society Senior Interclub Tennis season on a high, winning the Cameron Cup last week.

The men's A grade final took place between Hope Top Guns and Nelson Lawns Overule at Nelson.

Play began with doubles, providing fast and furious rallies, ideal spectator viewing.

Overule’s Simon Phillips and Jamie Marwick took off in the first set against Ashleigh Calder and Taylor Bianco, only to have the breaks put on in the second set with Calder and Bianco raising their game.

The Phillips/Marwick combo proved too strong, taking the match 6/0, 6/4.

Zak Lyttle and Harry Pugh of Hope Top Guns balanced the books with an exciting final tiebreak against Sam Innes-Walker and Tim Maples to win their

Innes-Walker couldn’t put a foot wrong with subtle and accurate shots, ably supported by strong volley play from Maples.

Pugh and Lyttle came out fighting in the second set to force a final tie-break which they kept the lid on to win the match.

The weather turned sour half

way through the singles leg, adding another dimension to the tie for all players.

Ashleigh Calder brought home a singles win for the Top Guns with powerful play seemingly not deterred by the deteriorating weather.

Innes-Walker and Pugh fought hard for each point, however, Innes-Walker's form was superb on the night, to take the win 6/3, 6/0.

Zack Lyttle and Tim Maples wrestled it out in true finals form, with Maples finally snatching the win from Lyttle 6/2, 5/7, 10/5.

Final score was 4-2, meaning the cup went to Nelson Lawns Overule.

NBS Senior Interclub ran 11 different leagues this year, catering for all abilities and genders, with 85 teams taking part from 10 clubs around the region.

Stoke/Nayland win fourth title in thriller Jonty Dine Reporter

Stoke/Nayland have capped their perfect season with a 31-run win over Waimea Toi Toi United in a dramatic 50-over final at Saxton Oval on Saturday.

A stunning spell of bowling by spinner Patrick Howes secured the win and the fourth trophy for Stoke/Nayland this summer.

Batting first, Stoke/Nayland were bowled out in the 38th over for what looked to be a sub-par 148.

The competition leaders won the toss and opted to bat but struggled from the outset, losing inform opener Howes inside the first over for a duck.

"I asked around the team what we should do if we won the toss and it was 6-5 in favour of bowling but runs on the board at Saxton has won a lot of games over the past decade,” says Stoke/Nayland captain Brendan Hodgson.

Waimea’s opening bowling pair of Sam Baxendine and Tom O’Neill blew through the Stoke/Nayland top order who found themselves 8 for 3 after only four overs.

Ryan Edwards and captain Brendan Hodgson helped revive the innings, combining for a sixth wicket partnership of 70 to ensure their side posted a competitive total.

Alex Coles finished unbeaten on 18 off 34 deliveries.

In reply, Waimea lost opener Tom Ingham in just the second over, trapped in front off the bowling of Darius Skeaping without scoring.

then threatened to spoil the party for both sides.

The covers came on during the scheduled lunch break with WTTU looking comfortable at 31 for 1 after nine.

After an hour-long delay play resumed in gloomy overhead conditions and Mason Thelin looked to up the run rate, hitting four boundaries in quick succession before being trapped in front to

Tugaga.

Howes then ripped through the middle and lower order with WTTU losing seven wickets for 18 runs in a dramatic collapse, Howes taking the match winning figures of 4 for 20 off six overs.

"Patty bowled very well, he’s always been capable of that he’s one of those spinners that isn’t afraid to chuck it up and go for a few but to grab four wickets in that fashion was fantastic, he’s been the find of the season for sure,” says Brendan.

Jon Routhan held the innings together for Waimea before he too lost his wicket for 25.

Stoke/Nayland came into the final unbeaten, with 8 wins and 2 abandoned from their 10 matches "We set out at the start of the year to win all four major trophies and having achieved that is outstanding.”

Brendan says, even at 54 for 2, he was still confident in his bowlers.

"They have a pretty strong top order but once we got through that we backed ourselves and the boys got us over the line.”

The side will celebrate their fourth major trophy of the year after winning the Kelvin Scoble, Twenty20 and 60 over competitions. "I think the lads will be lining up a few quiets tonight.”

The Youth Ministocks ended their season on Friday night with Cameron Thompson picking up the final heat win in his last race as a youth driver.

The productions champs went to Eddie Frans who was on the receiving end of several spins, but the car held together to win on the night.

The Super Saloons were light on numbers but three former NZ champions were in the field. Ian Burson gave the field a driving lesson on the first night but ran into car trouble on night two, with Peter Dixon taking out the second night.

Shane Carey returned to his home track picking up a heat win and 2nd spot on night two.

The Street stocks were a late inclusion but entertained the field, Matt Watson the pick of the bunch as a few cars' lives were ended for the season.

The T.Q. grade has been the feature grade of the year with the NZ title here earlier in the sea-

son, and again it was the Canterbury duo of NZ Champion Jeremy Webb and Kyle Glover to the fore. Club Champion Alicia MacLauchlan was the best of the locals, picking up 3rd on both features, but Webb was a class act once again.

The stock cars wound up their season with a few good hits, Levi Collier running amuck all weekend, Keightley Teece taking out night 1 and Michael Paynter winning Night 2. Shane Brooks had the best weekend of the season placing 2nd on both nights.

Conor Rangi was completing the final round of the War of the Wings Sprint car series, he had a fantastic debut season finishing 4th in Cromwell to end up 2nd overall.

Overall it was a great final fling for the club as they now build towards the 50th anniversary celebrations over Labour weekend to begin the new season in October.
