Player Feature: Anna Brooke Page & Acie Vance Acie Vance and Anna Brooke Page were highly touted athletes during their varsity careers and so far that athletic ability has prospered into a promising collegiate career as well. Both Vance and Page have made the most of their time in Booneville. Page, a native of Belmont, is in her second year with the Lady Tigers while Vance has made and immediate impact in his first season with the Tigers. Page’s first season with the Lady Tigers was one to be remembered. The former Belmont Lady Cardinal was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XXIII team in just her first year under former Lady Tiger mentor Ricky Ford after averaging 17 points a game and pulling down a team-high 150 total rebounds during the 201011 season. During her sophomore season, Page has kept the pressure on the opposition by averaging 22.5 points a game and five rebounds per outing in leading Northeast to a 3-3 mark after the Lady Tigers first six games of the year. Vance, a freshman from Ripley, has become a floor general for David Robbins’ undefeated Tigers. Under Vance’s Anna Brooke Page leadership, Northeast opened the 2011-12 season 6-0 and the Northeast freshmen is averaging 19.83 points per game after knocking off Meridian 80-78 on Monday, November 28. In the game against the Eagles, Vance scored a fourth of the Tigers points (20) while dishing out a pair of assists and hitting 50-percent of his shots (7-of-14). During the 2011-12 season, Page has been a constant leader for the Lady Tigers tallying 135 points in six games and averaging over a steal a game for the 5-11 forward. While Vance has done most of his scoring from outside the lane, Page’s markers have come on a 59-percent shooting effort that has yet to
see the Northeast sophomore attempt a three-point field goal. Page has also been a threat of the Lady Tigers at the charity stripe knocking down 39-of-47 attempts from the line in the Lady Tigers first six games – an 83-percent average. As Vance and Page continue their careers at Northeast, the rolling hill country of north Mississippi is where each honed their games. Page helped lead the Belmont Lady Cardinals to the Mississippi High School Activities Association’s Class 3A state title during her senior year. Vance helped lead the Ripley Tigers to the Class 3A North Half playin game against Aberdeen during his senior season. During her final season at Belmont, Page was named the 2009-10 Daily Journal High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year after averaging 20.9 points per game and grabbed 6.5 rebounds. Page sharpened her defensive skills at Belmont as well where the 5-11 forward averaged 2.1 steals per game for the Lady Cardinals in her final campaign. Vance was a scoring machine for Grant Gardner’s Ripley Tigers in his final year and finished Acie Vance averaging 31.4 points per game and pulled down 5.7 rebounds per outing. When not putting points on the board, Vance was busy helping his teammates finish with an 18-13 mark with 4.6 assists per game and 2.9 steals per contest average. During the semifinals of the Division 1-3A Tournament held at Northeast, Vance put on a show against eventual Class 3A State Champion Booneville when the then-Ripley senior finished with 48 points – his sixth 40-point game of the season. Following his final campaign with the Ripley Tigers, Vance was named the 2010-11 Division 1-3A Player of the year and was a 2011 AllState Honorable Mention selection by The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson.
