countries (especially developing countries) also need development assistance to be catalyst for socio-economic development, industrial growth and trade. Improving access to technology and knowledge clearly favors the sharing of ideas and innovation. The coordination of aid policies for the management of developing country debt and promote investments in the least developed countries, are also essential to achieve growth and sustainable development.

SDG17: PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS Jonas Fadweck, Malawi

How partnership can improve the image of a country. Only a strong commitment related to partnerships and cooperation at the global level can achieve sustainable development objectives. Partnership is one of the important keys to success. The word says, “If you walk alone, you walk fast but if you walk together, you walk far”. Coordination/cooperation, networking, relationships, interdependence are some of the examples of partnership. In partnership, you share ideas, opinions, skills and experiences, foreign exchange, traditional culture and habits, opportunities, resources, goals e.t.c needed for the development of the country. Working together for the common goal reduces time bound, resource use and efforts and helps parties to reach intended goal very fast and easy by sharing of work. The establishment of Printernet Project has contributed towards achieving SDG17 hence has managed to make 5/6 countries partners for the goals. Sharing ideas and experiences, opportunities, coordination has been some the success of the foundation. The Printernet Project has become spider in action. Humanitarian crises caused by conflict or natural disasters continue to require financial and humanitarian aid. Many

A Partners Consultation Meeting help in Capital City, Lilongwe, Malawi TIYEPAD NETWORK By Esther Kachingwe, Malawi

TIYEPAD NETWORK existed in Malawi over 9 years implementing programs for the community, youth empowerment, promotion of women and children, sustaining environment and combating the effects of climate change to get rid of culture of poverty and hunger. Although the community youth-led organization (TIYEPAD NETWORK) doesn’t received independent funding for its projects/programs/activities has done commendable work in Malawi as far as supporting vulnerable groups and plight of conserving natural resources are concerned. Some of the important things I learned from being a member of the organization involve several active Sustainable

Development Goals (SDGs) and Malawi Growth and Development Strategies (MGDs). Eradicating extreme poverty, achieving universal primary and secondary education, promoting gender equality and empowering women, reducing child mortality and improve maternal health, ensuring environmental sustainability, combating the effects of climate change, developing global partnership for development are some of the goals I learnt from being one of the member of the organization. SDGs 17 Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. This goal has helped the organization fulfill its mandate of being a network of developmental groups working for the development of the country and with the same purposes. We coordinated with different organizations/groups, institutions, private and public sectors both local and international for the development of Malawi country. TIYEPAD Thuchila Youth Empowerment Programme and Development Network (TIYEPAD NETWORK) founded in 2009 with young people from Thuchila residence, Mulanje District. Jonas Fadweck is the founder of the organization which was at first known as Thuchila Youth Empowerment Programme (TYEP) and usually rent a small room as an office for communication and meetings purposes. TYEP was formed as community youth club with an aim to mobilize youths in the community and empower them into socio-economic development with the vision “of a society that raises responsible citizens for the future and is free from all forms of discrimination, stigmatization, violence, exploitation, abuse and fear”. To prove that “there is power in group action” Jonas invited Susan and Evace

and some other impact area community members to form or start a club (some other members are now in different jobs). While being a club, Jonas was a Chairperson whereas Susan was Secretary and Evace committee member. I joined the organization as a member in 2017 when it was fully registered under Malawi Government Laws to legally operate in Malawi in the name Thuchila Youth Empowerment Programme and Development Network (TIYEPAD NETWORK). I was much excited of what these community young leaders were doing for the community development. So I decided to join them and get involved with their activities and programs and they accepted me. My ambition was very similar with Martha who also joined TIYEPAD NETWORK the same year (2017) and she was appointed as Safe motherhood Coordinator. After the last board meeting I appointed as Girl Child Education Coordinator and am happy to work with girls and young women in Malawi ensuring quality education and elimination of gender based violence.

Team of TIYEPAD NETWORK

Martha and her friend Ellinor both got school sponsorship at Thuchila Community Day Secondary School. SDG1 PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITY AMONG TIYEPAD NETWORK MEMBERS SDG17 has resulted in several partnership benefits including collaborations, sharing of ideas and opinions, access to financial and material support, job and training opportunities and many more. World Healing Support Programme The first group to join TIYEPAD NETWORK is World Healing Support Programme (WHSP). WHSP is a community Faith-Based Organization (FBO) and development arm of World Healing Centre Church Africa ( International Church). WHSP focuses on youth and women empowerment, education, health, gender, agriculture and food security, environment and climate change and plight of conserving natural resources. All these thematic areas are in line with the same goal and purpose of TIYEPAD NETWORK as well as working in the same impact areas hence WHSP Team joined TIYEPAD NETWORK for the joint projects and programs. The first activity/awareness campaign was about “women empowerment in environmental conservation activities” with support from Mulanje Branch Wildlife and Environmental Society (WESM) in conjunction with Mulanje District Youth Office, Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust (MMCT) and Japanese International Cooperative Agency (JICA). Natchengwa newsletters (produced by WESM), Sapitwa Newsletters (produced by MMCT) were distributed by TIYEPAD NETWORK and WHSP for the environmental education, awareness and communications. The new thing I learned from the environmental awareness campaign was the use of clay stoves which use small amount of firewood, produce less smoke dangerous to human health as well cheap and easy to make.

In partnership for the goal, you learn more.

UN WOMEN VISIT By Esther Kachingwe On 10 December 2019 it was a great day to receive visitors from UN Women (United Nation Women). UN Women international and worldwide NGO focusing on the rights and promotion of women and girls and deal with all form of gender based violence and widespread sexual violence, including systemic rape and forced marriage. It is obvious that women and girls are facing many challenges to succeed in life while hardly anyone openly condones rape and any forms of gender based violence, too many of us fail to challenge the culture that surrounds us and mainly negatively affect women, girls and children.

Overton Kambeta (UN Women, field officer representative) opened the discussion with few remarks of UN Women activities in Malawi. He then wanted to know the background, challenges /problems analyzed to form the organization, successes and challenges for registering the organization with government as well as after registration, organizational management capacity, current projects/sectors of operation, data management, beneficiaries, site of operation and population were some of the information they wanted to know. After full discussions, the visitors were so happy with our answers and commendable work we are doing especially on the empowerment and promotion of women and girls which was most reason of their visit. Jonas Fadweck (TIYEPAD NETWORK Director), Esther Kachingwe (TIYEPAD NETWORK Girl Child Education Coordinator), Ellen Khawe(TIYEPAD NETWORK Women Committee Chairperson), Evace Ngozo (HIV/AIDS Advocator) and Enifa Phiri (Member) were some of the participants. TIYEPAD NETWORK members and staffs were so excited to receive such visitors which were a blessing to the organization and were able to ask questions, comment as well as contribute their views and opinions on how better we can work together to improve the lives of women and girls in the country. Makoka and Associate Consulting Firm (M&A) Visit By J onas Fadweck It is very well known that Malawi is under political and economic worse, more information are physically known and others being sourced in Social Medias and current affairs. The last presidential elections are more fire affecting Malawi economy and growth. While opposition leaders are still not satisfying of the winning of the ruling

party president Arthur Peter Mutharika, demonstrations have been heard in many parts of the country which resulted in injuries of many innocent people. Many institutions and bodies including Public Affairs Committee (PAC, body of church leaders), Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) are trying to solve the problem and negotiate the leaders under political resolution act but still economic of the country going down as there are no time for development and businesses in many cities. Who are most affected in political crisis? Young people represent more than half of the country’s population that is obviously mean young people are most people to be socially and economically affected by the disputes. Makoka and Associate Consulting Firm (M & A) is one of the Malawian associations based in the capital city, Lilongwe taking part in community mobilization and sensitization, community development as well as youth and women empowerment.

M & A legalized by Malawi government is meeting with active youth community groups nationwide to analyze what challenges community people, especially young people, are facing after the election and in the middle of political demonstration. On 13 December 2019, M & A visited Thuchila Youth Empowerment Programme and Development Network (TIYEPAD NETWORK) in its operating sites (Group Village Head Nkando and Juma) where respectively 30 people especially young

people at the range between 20-35 were gathered for man to man, youth leaders and group interventions. M & A also wanted to know what challenges young people face concerning economic and political development, how it affects them in everyday life and also how political conflicts can be resolved for peace. One of the participants asked M & A staff to explain why they have chosen to meet young people nation wide. The answer was, “young people represent more than half of the population as well as they are core for development of the country and must be considered, respected and heard their voices” Said Winnie Shella, M & A Project Officer. Everyone agrees that where there is political disputes there is no or slow development. Demonstrations are legal, but let’s respect our constitutional laws on ensuring peaceful demonstration as negotiable the same. Young people have voices for change!!

Evolution of micro loans in our village By Atwongerie Joseph, Uganda

After needs assessment was conducted, with the help of Printernet New York, we found out that although the poverty levels are high, it's not because people are not hard working but rather people don't have start up capital. Printernet Uganda, in partnership with Printernet New York, is implementing a micro loan project. This has touched the lives of many not youth but also other people in need. Agriculture is a backbone of our village. But people were still using ancient way of farming, but with printernet Uganda people are able watch permaculture video, Although our project has for previous days been implementing tree planting activities, but also we found that farming very crucial to the development of our community. Those people who have benefited directly and indirectly from our project are very grateful and we have previously spoke to them, according to them, they are able to take care of their families also live according to the standards of living

I am called Beinomugisha Raymond. I am 25 years old, born in Ndago village in Nyarushanje sub district,Uganda. My village has 70 homesteads. As a child I had the dream of becoming a lawyer or Engineer but I never came true because I never got chance to go school like others. When my parents died all my dreams died, I had nowhere to live, because my parents died before they built a house for us, so all along I have been living with my grandparents. I had longed to be well but I no opportunity until I met Atwongeire Joseph. From his organization I received a micro loan of 350,000sh ($95.46US)I invested the money in vegetable farming. My grandmother has 2.5 acres of land which is not utilized, I was finding it hard to get started until when I watched agriculture Video on gardening at the Printernet cafe. and later got guidance from Joseph. I decided to start. I used the 350,00 sh To pay for seeds, herbicides and labour to dig the land. Each month I paid back some interest. Today I have saved 185,000 sh. The loan will be paid back in 6 months, after the next wet season. I have no storage facilities to keep my vegetables fresh, this later affects my profits but I am currently doing well.
