A WATERFRONT CITY

Chiang, Neng Yu

Taiwan is a country with abundant rainfall. The annual rainfall is three times that of the world average. However, due to topography and climate change, it has become the world's 18th water-deficient country. In addition, Taiwan's rainfall is extremely uneven in geographical and seasonal distribution. It is more likely to cause regional and seasonal droughts, and the actual amount of rainfall per person per year is only one-sixth of the world average. Therefore, every drop of water is extraordinarily precious, and the reservoir is the main way for Taiwan to intercept rainwater as a water for people's livelihood. Taipei, a city developed in accordance with the Tamsui River, the main source of water is the upstream Jade Reservoir, through the direct water purification field as a supply of water for people's livelihood. However, when heavy rains occur, the turbidity of the water source increases instantaneously, which often causes the system to be unable to load and cause a lockout.

Due to its location in the subtropical zone and the western Pacific, Taiwan has an average of three to four typhoons per year under the influence of the global extreme climate. Every typhoon will cause water to stop in some areas. The chart shows the monthly average rainfall statistics for the Taipei area in the past five years. It can be seen from the graph that the rainfall is extremely uneven during the year. How to deal with such a situation is a problem that Taipei faces as a “ waterfront city”.

There are many hidden problems in the water purification system of the waterworks in Taiwan. Disinfection is mainly done by adding chlorine gas and the filtering process is added four times. When the chlorine is in heat, trihalomethanes are easily produced when the chlorine is in heat, which is a carcinogenic suspect substance. It is also one of the reasons that Taiwanese tap water can not drink directly. Despite the increase in tap water penetration rate and the quality of tap water, there are still some differences in the quality of tap water. In 1992, 30% of tap water samples in Kaohsiung City did not meet the national standards, mainly because the number of viable bacteria exceeded the standard. In 2001, standard. So another source of water: add water station came into being, as a unique social phenomenon in central and southern Taiwan.

This design is a metropolitan filter-water purifier, a small pavilion to regulate the temperature of the surroundings, and a mobile measuring station; it measures steady and rigorous rainfall, and you can also get a cup of drip coffee . Why is there such an interesting drop of ice coffee? With the evolution of human civilization, the culture of drinking water has also changed. Modern life is filled with more processed water than water, and coffee is one of them. Coffee is like a symbol of drinking habits of our generation. Therefore, we Did such an attempt, in addition to drink clean water, you can drink the blisters of coffee, hoping that when people taste coffee at the same time, can enjoy the whole process. 12

4 In the construction, the structure of the concrete member is dierent from the traditional water plant. For the environmental damage caused by the large-scale development, the Raining Lab is easy to disassemble, transport and assemble, so that its damage to the environment is reduced. The lowest, and more conducive to it into some remote areas where tap water pipelines can not reach, it is easier for subsequent management and maintenance, extending the life of the building and achieving a sustainable spirit. Take the city as an example. With a 15T crane truck with four conďŹ gurations, it can be handled and assembled in two hours. In remote areas, it can be dismantled into smaller components and transported in small trucks or even humans. And set up.

The whole microarchitectural construction itself is not the focus of gaze, but rather to provide the entire system with the carrier, filtering and reuse is what we want to make you feel. Filtration is divided into two stages, the first stage for the first stage of quartz sand and activated carbon filter, such as the better quality of the environment can reach the skin contact level, after the initial filtration of water into the lower tank first storage , Provide the entire system of water use. The use of water body is divided into three categories: drinking, spraying, backwater.

16

Part of the drinking water will be filtered through the second RO, RO filtration system will choose the main consideration is that different parts of the rain may not be the same cleanliness, in order to be able to handle the most extreme water quality, RO is currently the highest degree of filtration on the market net Water systems, on the one hand, have high popularity and are easier to follow and maintain; drinking water is subdivided into direct references and the use of iced coffee.

2011-2016 M.A.S. Studio Tamkang University Chiang, Neng Yu With the establishment of the whole system, we have a cooperation with the professors of the Department of Environmental Engineering at the university and the consultants of the Water Resources Engineering Company. They give professional analysis and advice to our ideas, although they are cross-disciplinary and foreign. Collaboration is a very common thing, but there are few other professional advisory roles in Taiwan that provide advice on our design. This kind of assistance helps us to be more realistic in our school design.

Action

people, education

Chiang, Neng Yu 2011-2016 M.A.S. Studio Tamkang University What is the building? As a graduation project, I will not reflect on this issue. In order to get water, people in the past can only reach the nearest well in the mountains, but it is like a social place in the past. People have an intersection because of the water, and they cherish this opportunity because they are not easy to get water. Modern our own house provides a variety of functions, but the function itself is out of touch with "architecture", life is convenient, but it is more and more out of touch with the environment,

18

and less communication between people and people. If we live in modern times, we may not be able to return to the era when resources are completely taken from nature. There is no way to completely withdraw from the artiďŹ cial technology, but at least through modern technology, it can be presented in another artiďŹ cial way. Naturally, there is an alternative interaction between nature and nature through architecture.

Formal City

In this area the Japanese era name for the Taisho-cho, the Japanese pure residential area. Its grid of streets, the Japanese nostalgia for the solution, specially imitation of Japan's ancient capital planning shape.

[Linsen North Road] 1970, 1980s, Linsen North Road Rise special industry, business hours from evening to dawn the next day, attracting large crowds, merchants followed stationed; Since then, businesses and special industries are dependent on hours followed by elongated.

24

“Informal cities” are relative concepts of “formal cities”. “Official city” refers to a “regulated” city, that is, urban infrastructure must be planned under the control of its urban and building laws, so that the public sector can effectively manage the formal city, architects and Other space practitioners can also perform various spatial practices in this regulated environment. Therefore, those parts that are excluded from the "official city" and are not regulated are "informal cities." However, with the rapid development of the formal city, the so-called "informal city" has gradually emerged in the city. It is on the edge of the law, but it is the display of life in the place. Between formal cities and informal cities, does the use of informal city bottom-up planning methods have the opportunity to go beyond the formal urban spatial approach?

Informal Rules in Formal City

Chiang, Neng Yu

The Xin Sing market on Linsen North Road officially opened on August 29, 1973. The Xin Sing market is a five-story building. The basement is a fish and vegetable stall. The first to second floors are snacks, department stores, and groceries. There are 395 stalls in total. The third to fifth floors are the staff of the emerging middle school.

2011-2016 Data Driven Studio Tamkang University

Linsen North Road, one of the most lively sections of Taipei's nightlife, was famous for its eight major industries. Today, the eight major industries have declined, but restaurants, KTVs, clubs, etc. are still standing, so it is known as the city that never sleeps.

Tamsui, the stop of the Southeast Asian sea route in the history. After the opening of Taiwan in 1860, Tamsui became Taiwan's largest trading port, the British set up a consulate in Fort San Domingo, and other foreigners also set up trade in Tamsui. After Japan occupied Taiwan in 1895, in order to transport goods to the Tamsui port more quickly and in large quantities, the railway was built and started the golden age of Tamsui. But the port was gradually replaced by other ports due to the river sedimentation. However, with its accumulated historical capital for many years, Tamsui continues to be the administrative and cultural center of the towns and villages at the North Coast. It is transformed into a sightseeing spot with the old streets and rich historical sites.

Our site is at the end of the old railway, witnessing the prosperity of the Tamsui port in the past; now the railway is converted into the MRT system, the railroad stops at the freshwater station, and due to the surrounding landscape design, the tourist flow flows along the Zhongzheng Road below to enter the fresh water. Street, the role of the base in this area is gradually diminishing.

Tamsui has experienced the aborigines and Han Chinese, and the entry of Western culture after the opening of port trade. Various cultures and religion have developed in this way. From the Tamshui MRT station to the Huwei ďŹ shing port, there are three religious buildings within a short distance of 1 km. In the past, these two temples guarded the trade-o vessels and promoted the unity of the local residents. The Presbyterian Church was founded by Dr. Mackay, who was a missionary in Taiwan at that time, and played an important role in religion and education. So how this church design plays a role in condensing local residents and allowing visitors to come here to experience the past and present Tamsui will be an important issue.

Chiang, Neng Yu 2011-2016 EA3 Studio Tamkang University In the method of trying to make a groundbreaking form, it shows the image of recreating the past and is connected with the invisible God. Create a space of public and private through pushing each layer of space.

40

In the arrangement of space, the church space is placed to the top of the building which is the closest to the God. On routes, there are dierences between priests, Christians, and tourists. People out-of-towner in Tamsui can go directly to the third floor from the north path. The local inhabitant can arrive from the vertical route. In order to bring out the sacredness of the priests, they have a direct path to the church from their living space on the second floor.

Second Floor

(community hall, priests living space)

For the modern era, the church is a form of human gravity. But for non-Christians, it is actually a sense of distance. In addition to attracting residents through community classrooms and activities, there is a way people can feel the appeal of religious activities without participating in religious activities. When religious activities take place in the church, the main body of the building light up around. The priest's living space is also around us, but at the same time it retains its privacy, creating a kind of sacred feeling that is close to the people but slightly mysterious. It appears in the church through the exclusive path, when the light hits the stage. It is as if God is coming to this space.
