FLEXIBLE PATHWAYS NEOMED offers flexible pathways to admission for the College of Pharmacy. From those with diverse academic backgrounds to those far along in their career paths, all roads can lead to NEOMED.

NEOMED welcomes students from Ohio and across the nation via our participation in both early decision and regular admission programs offered through PharmCAS. The NEOMED application deadline is March 1. However, college admissions reserves the right to accept or deny the applications on a rolling basis. NEOMED does not require any institutional supplemental application, nor are PCAT scores required to apply for admission.

UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE STUDENTS Students currently enrolled in Northeast Ohio colleges and universities have long enjoyed preferential admission when they apply through either the PharmCAS Early Decision program or via regular decision by October 1. While NEOMED continues the practice of ensuring that students from our partner Universities receive priority consideration early in the admission cycle, there are always dozens of seats available for other qualified students from Ohio and across the nation who apply in a timely manner. First and second-year undergraduate college students are encouraged to explore and apply via our distinctive University pathway. This program offers provisional admission to pharmacy school.

TO THE COLLEGE OF PHARMACY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS High school students who are interested in a pharmacy career and are seeking early assurance but find “0 – 6” programs in private schools too expensive or the criteria for admission to other public university programs too restrictive, may find NEOMED to be a better fit. Our University’s flexible early assurance pathway for high school students offers well-prepared students the option of attending nearly any college or university of their choice before coming to NEOMED. Our early assurance program allows you to choose the number of years you want to prepare for entry into pharmacy school, with the option of provisional admission two, three or even four years from the time of early assurance. We designed our early assurance pathway for high school students to be the most student-friendly, affordable, pathway of its kind.

PHARMACY TECHNICIANS AND NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS If you became interested in a career as a pharmacist later in life, NEOMED may be the place for you. Most of our entering students have some background as techs or volunteers, and many have taken several years to finish their prerequisites while working or managing other responsibilities. While NEOMED’s program of study is only offered full-time and in-person at our Rootstown Campus, many pharmacy technicians and other non-traditional students have found that now is the right time to advance their careers as pharmacists.

ELIGIBILITY The following recommended guidelines should be met for admission consideration: • Recommended overall college GPA of 2.50 or higher • No grade lower than “C-” in any pre-professional prerequisites • Completion of the required 72 semester hours (105 quarter hours) of prerequisite coursework prior to matriculation. Candidates with prerequisite coursework in progress are encouraged to apply.

Candidates must also successfully complete an interview and meet additional requirements such as demonstrating the applicant’s degree of interest in the profession. Applicants are highly encouraged to acquire volunteer or work experience in a pharmacy prior to applying. The Admissions Committee will make all admissions decisions based on a holistic review of each applicant.

FALL 2018 PRE-PROFESSIONAL PREREQUISITES COLLEGE OF PHARMACY EARLY ASSURANCE PATHWAYS The College of Pharmacy also offers Early Assurance Pathways with provisional admission to the Pharm.D. program for either high school or post-secondary students of accredited institutions.

The High School Early Assurance Pathway allows current high school seniors to obtain provisional admission to the NEOMED College of Pharmacy after attending any regionally accredited college or university and successfully completing pre-professional prerequisite coursework. This Early Assurance Pathway provides flexibility to complete pre-professional prerequisites at a preferred pace - two, three or four years.

The University Early Assurance Pathway allows current college students with at least sophomore standing or higher to apply for provisional admission to NEOMED providing they have at least one year of residence at their current college or university. Similar to the high school pathway, students benefit from the flexibility to complete their pre-professional prerequisites at a preferred pace of two, three or four years before applying for promotion to NEOMED’s College of Pharmacy.

In the fall of 2019, we will be moving to a traditional academic calendar of three trimesters: Fall, winter and summer. Please note that as we do so, our Pre-professional Prerequisites will change to ensure we maintain our rigorous instruction. *General Education and/or additional science courses are defined as humanities, social science, business, computer literacy, or additional coursework in the other prerequisite categories. A course can be used only once to fulfill a prerequisite.

If, for example, a student takes a four credit hour communications course to fulfill the three credit hour communications requirement, the extra one credit hour may be carried over toward fulfilling the general education requirement.

Microbiology, cell biology, genetics, and molecular biology are acceptable substitutions for up to three credit hours of the biochemistry requirement.

One important element of this transformation was the national conversion to an entry-level Doctor of Pharmacy degree and the emergence of post-graduate pharmacy residency education as an important aspect of delivering direct patient care. Our distinctive approach to curriculum reflects this transformation along with the rigor of interprofessional education (IPE) that expands the roles of our graduates as “team-ready” health professionals.
