KEYNOTE ADDRESSES Carmen Javier (’21) Fourth-Year Medicine Student Before pursuing medical school, Carmen Javier committed to a year of service with the AmeriCorps program as a Volunteer Services Coordinator for Venice Family Clinic (VFC), a federally qualified health center in West Los Angeles. It was here where Carmen’s dream to pursue urban primary care with a focus on addressing health inequities was reaffirmed as she remained with VFC a second year as a care services coordinator. Carmen’s genuine drive is not only a product of her humble roots in the urban outskirts of Mexico City, but also due to her broader perspective of service work in her urban community both in Los Angeles and Cleveland. During her time at NEOMED, she has inspired a movement to diversify the campus experience through initiatives such as founding the Latino Medical Student Association chapter, organizing and bringing back the NEOMED Multicultural Festival, and expanding opportunities for underrepresented minority students through her service in NEOMED’s Diversity Council and LCME Student Impact Committee. Carmen’s leadership expands beyond NEOMED as she currently serves her second consecutive year on the student-run board of the Latino Medical Student Association in the Midwest. Her personal commitment to underserved communities has been recognized in prestigious awards such as the NEOMED Community Builder Award and the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Medical Student Scholarship. June Yun, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Integrative Medical Sciences June Yun, Ph.D., is an associate professor of integrative medical sciences. Dr. Yun grew up in Northeast Ohio. She attended The Ohio State University and received her Ph.D. from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in conjunction with the National Institutes of Health. Her current research interests include the study of cardiac signaling pathways involved in heart failure. She teaches medical pharmacology in the College of Medicine.

OATH OF PROFESSIONAL COMMITMENT I do solemnly swear by whatever I hold most sacred, that I will be loyal to the profession of medicine and just and generous to its members. That I will lead my life and practice my art in uprightness and honor. That into whatsoever home I shall enter it shall be for the good of the sick and the well to the utmost of my power and that I will hold myself aloof from wrong and from corruption and from the tempting of others to vice. That I will exercise my art solely for the cure of my patients and the prevention of disease and will give no drugs and perform no operation for a criminal purpose, and far less suggest such a thing. That whatsoever I shall see or hear of the lives of men which is not fitting to be spoken, I will keep inviolably secret. These things I do promise and in proportion as I am faithful to this oath, may happiness and good repute be ever mine, the opposite if I shall be forsworn.
