The Neroche Camera Obscura

A 360 degree image is captured through the revolving turret and projected downwards through a mirror and lens to a receiving table in the darkness inside. Viewers are treated to a real-time ‘movie’ image of the landscape and people moving in it.

This Camera Obscura was designed by Artist Michael Fairfax, and was built as a way of bringing the landscape alive in a novel and entertaining way. The Camera Obscura has been highly popular with adults and children alike at events such as Honiton Show and the Taunton Woodfair.

The approach has been used historically by landscape painters such as Vermeer, and for Victorian seaside attractions.
