As such, our newest project The Best of North County aims at discovering and celebrating the very best businesses in our region. As writer Meg Whealtey put it, “there is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.” The Best of North County invites you to harness that power and be a part of the growth you want to see.
We hope this magazine will help you enjoy the quality of life that makes our region special. It’s 2023, and North County is evolving in to an area with a unique identity very different from San Diego proper. We have over 1.22 million residents and represent about one third of the total economy of San Diego. As we venture in to the future together, we must be aware of our changing values while also guarding our history and preserving our roots. We can literally shape the future of our community by shopping at the businesses and organizations that share our values.

We realize there are many amazing businesses not represented in this firstyear magazine, but many of the best were voted in and are represented here. You can help the project along by nominating and voting for your favorite businesses when our 2024 contest opens up in January.
