In a quiet Central Californian district, a bold transformation echoes—West Hills College Lemoore is now simply Lemoore College. The rebranding points to a community coming into its own. The college has also been recognized as the region’s best college and technical/trade school by the Fresno Bee’s Best of Central California People’s Choice awards.

Chancellor Dr. Kristin Clark of the West Hills Community College District explained why it was essential for it to differentiate the colleges.

“Our institutions, while they share a common goal of educational empowerment, each have unique characters that resonate with their respective student bodies and communities,” she said. “The communities were in favor, voters petitioned, students and staff supported, and finally, it was approved by the board of trustees of West Hills Community College District. Keeping the long-standing tradition and recognition of the district in mind, its name will remain the West Hills Community College District and will maintain its well-known slogan, ‘Once you go here, you can go anywhere,’ while at the same time addressing the need for differentiation and creating a fresh new look that aligns with the district’s new era of educating our communities. I am extremely excited to see this much-needed change take place.”

Many visitors are curious about our unique hotel and ask if it was once one of the famous 21 Kings Highway missions founded by Father Junipero Serra from 1769 (San Diego) to 1823 (Sonoma). The answer is, admittedly, no! But our Mission fits the Mold...

Hotel Mission de Oro was built and opened in 1974 by Jesus Monroy, who was inspired to recreate the mission in his father’s hometown of Tepoztlan in Morelos, Mexico. Jesus’ dream was to construct 27 missions, each 400 miles apart, thus creating a new Kings Highway on Interstate 5 from Alaska to Argentina. Special points of interest include our nine-story bell tower, a million-dollar mission, wine and agrarian art collection, a life-size replica of Michelangelo’s Pieta, and the bronze busts of presidents John F. Kennedy and Dwight Eisenhower, dedicated in honor of their participation in developing the local San Luis Dam.

Nestled in the golden California Foothills, this landmark’s convenient location serves as the perfect stopping point for travelers heading anywhere from San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Yosemite National Park to Monterey and Santa Cruz.

Today, Hotel Mission de Oro has transformed into a fullservice hotel, offering a pleasant retreat in a secluded sanctuary. We have 162 guest rooms, including 93 superior mission-style rooms, and 10 separate meeting and event rooms totaling 17,000 square feet, with the capability of accommodating a total of over 1,000 people. We offer organizations a training facility where members will find a pleasant retreat for their meetings.

Since the hotel came under new ownership in 2015, a total renovation has aimed to outfit the hotel with exceptional amenities and conveniences, while retaining its original vibrancy and historical significance.
