Kindness Came Before the Clients Did
In 1995, Stewart Law Firm formed from as humble a beginning as one can imagine from a law firm.

Brent Stewart began the practice in a rented workspace called the BTC Center, which came with its own faxes and copiers.
Good thing, too, as the newly formed law practice was somewhat short on furniture and equipment – all Brent had in the office at first was his desk and what was essentially a lawn chair.
“I would also offer to do the intakes with new clients outside so they would not see what my office looked like,” said Brent.
From renting that single-room office, Brent’s legal practice expanded, and the firm soon outgrew the BTC center altogether.
From a new office, the practice continued to flourish, forming five different office locations in North and South Carolina.

Now, pending renovations on their current office, the team members have returned to the BTC Center where they began.
“This move has really put all that happened to me in the last 30 years into perspective,” Brent said. “I have a lot to be grateful for as to my career in law.”
Its Columbia office, which has operated for 12 years, is helmed by two attorneys, Stephen Vicari and Stephen Suggs, who provide representation for serious injuries, workers’ compensation claims, and motor vehicle accidents.
Together, the lawyers and their team of four staff members service an area around 80 miles around the city.
“Of course, if you need us, we will go farther,” said Brent. “Being located strategically around the state, we are able to help people anywhere in SC and often do.”

The law office’s nearly 30-year track record comes down to one aspect that is easy to see, and that is a genuine care for its clients.
“Probably the only thing better than getting to help people is the relationships I have formed with my staff over the years. They have become friends and family. Even though we have grown so much over the years I have tried to keep the small-firm feel throughout the years.”
Among the biggest challenges that the firm faces is what Brent observes as a tendency for people to not want to help one another. This perception that people are always looking for handouts, he says, contributes to the major challenges involved with helping injured individuals receive their fair compensation.
“Until people figure out that we need to help each other, and that the insurance carriers and big business are not our friends we will continue to have to fight for justice,” Brent said.
To that end, Brent encourages people to do their research when selecting a firm to represent them.
“It is important when you are selecting a firm to help you with an injury that you use a firm that does that type of work,” Brent said. “Read reviews and take the time to get to know who you are going to put on your team. While we hope you never need us, we will be honored if you call us. I always tell people: if you do not hire us, hire someone, because your injuries merit representation.”
