WYVERN LINGO

WELCOME TO THE ATLANTIC SESSIONS ON THE NORTH COAST 2015 Now in its sixth year the Atlantic Sessions is a music festival which has grown steadily since its inception and has gathered a fine reputation, both among performers and music lovers. The wealth of musical talent in Northern Ireland and our near neighbours allows us to present a high quality musical feast over the four days. Atlantic Sessions aims to be a showcase for original music adapted by artists in a number of ways, from electric to acoustic, traditional to contemporary. Atlantic Sessions is now recognised as a permanent feature on the cultural calendar, creating an energetic, vibrant atmosphere in the pubs, hotels and bistros in Portrush and Portstewart, with satellite venues at Portballintrae. We are delighted to welcome some new venues on board the music trail and for the ‘Café

Acoustic Sessions’. Also new to the programme, Portrush Film Theatre will deliver themed movie screenings to add to our line-up. This year’s FREE Music Trail will feature almost 50 live, original music gigs at various venues, while ticketed Showcase Events will take place at Flowerfield Arts Centre, Portstewart and Portrush Town Hall. We invite you to join us to catch up with some Atlantic Sessions favourites or discover some of the best emerging talent on these Atlantic shores.

Check out the full programme of what’s happening where and when on pages 24-31 A Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Event, with special thanks to the participating venues.

HEADLINING

SUPPORTED BY SAINT SISTER

Date: Fri 13th Nov Time: 8.00pm Venue: Flowerfield Arts Centre Tickets: £10 Box Office T: 028 7083 1400 Fresh from thrilling crowds at Electric Picnic, Wyvern Lingo have just announced that they will again be supporting Hozier on his UK Tour in early 2016. Karen and Caoimhe from the group both sing backing vocals for their Wicklow friend, and Karen duets with him on the haunting song, ‘In a Week’ on his bestselling debut album. Having already toured with Hozier in the UK and Ireland earlier this year, the Bray trio now take centre stage on their own terms. Friends and bandmates since school, the group, which includes Karen Cowley, Saoirse Duane and Caoimhe Barry, released their debut EP last year and are now set to release their debut single ‘Subside’. Taking influences from pop, folk and R’n’B, their voices interweave to create a fresh sound, which is forward-looking, yet unafraid to celebrate tradition. “These girls have melody and delivery nailed. The real deal” RTE Other Voices. Supporting Wyvern Lingo is Irish folk-pop duo, ‘Saint Sister’. A ‘bewitching folkpop duo who draw on early Celtic harp traditions, modern electronic music and sixties folk music to create a potent mixture of ambient sound they like to call, ‘atmosfolk’.’ Expect big things to come from this band.

HANNAH MCPHILLIMY AND GUESTS

WITH OWEN DENVIR & LIMAVADY BIG BAND Date: Sat 14th Nov Time: 8.00pm Venue: Portrush Town Hall Tickets: £10.00 (BYOB) Box Office T: 028 7083 1400 Originally hailing from Northern Ireland’s rugged North Coast, Belfastbased songwriter Hannah McPhillimy’s music is known for bringing jazz-inflected indie warmth to a windswept landscape. Since the launch of her debut EP ‘Seeing Things’ in 2013, Hannah’s subsequent records have garnered acclaim for their diversity and purpose. Working with anti-slavery charity, No More Traffik, to record the a cappella collection ‘Freedom Songs’, which was launched at a sell-out gig, Hannah has more recently, teamed up with author Jan Carson to record ‘Disappear Here’, a set of songs inspired by Jan’s novel ‘Malcolm Orange Disappears’. With a back catalogue of appearances including SXSW, RTE’s Other Voices, supporting slots with The Gloaming, SOAK, Gungor and Foy Vance - never mind a Culture NI trade delegation to Brussels - Hannah has grown and developed during a couple of action-packed years. Now, her new record ‘Wind Machine’ is the culmination of lessons learnt on the road and in the studio. With a fuller sound, a completely analogue recording process and a desire to explore new boundaries, Hannah’s latest music is packed full of surprises. Hannah will be joined by Owen Denvir and The Limavady Big Band for this Saturday night treat! “A bit of a wonder” - Irish Times “A showstopping voice” - Irish News

After a five year hiatus, Paddy Casey returned last year with his fourth album The Secret Life Of. It was recorded, produced and mixed at home in Paddy’s kitchen by Paddy and Pat Donne. Pat, having worked on the first album Amen (So Be It), as well as on the demos for all the other albums. Paddy finished touring his third album Addicted To Company in mid 2009 and decided then it was time to make an album on his own, without a label. He wanted to let the songs come naturally and found they came in droves. So he began recording them all over the next few years, and chose the 11 tracks that make up the new album The Secret Life Of. “The best thing about this album is that I veered off in any direction the wind carried me...If there is a theme it’s definitely something to do with freedom…as for all the other tracks that didn’t make the album... I might take them down to O’ Connell Bridge and sell them to passing boybands….”

DROP ANCHOR

COMMON GROUND A brand new acoustic band from Belfast consisting of Karl Donaldson (vocals) and Ben Forte (guitar). Fairly new to the circuit, they have most recently performed on local radio station, Blast 106fm and were one of 8 finalists at the Oh Yeah based Volume Control’s ‘Clash of the New Breeds’. Heavily influenced by some mainstream pop-rock bands, such as The Script and One Republic, they aim to make their music something commercial for all with its own signature flare.

Drop Anchor was formed late April 2015 by Heather White (vocals, guitar, cajon, piano) and Conor McGuinness (vocals, guitar, bass, cajon), when the pair met by chance busking on the streets of Belfast. Both strong vocalists and talented musicians, they very quickly became a tight musical twosome and began writing and recording original material, going on to win the Music City Busking Festival 2015 ‘Best Overall Act’ in Derry and have since performed at festivals and venues across Ireland.
