The all-inclusive cost of the Summer School, including all tuition, meals and 3 nights 4* accommodation is ÂŁ480 for a single room and ÂŁ390 for a shared room.

 The  School  of  Creative  Arts   DW 4XHHQÂśV 8QLYHUVLW\ %HOIDVW  To  coincide  with  the  inaugural   Lughnasa  International  Friel  Festival  August  20th  ¹  31st   2015,   4XHHQÂśV 8QLYHUVLW\ LV KROGLQJ D IRXU-­day  Summer  School  dedicated  to  the  work  of  the  great  Irish  dramatist,  Brian  Friel.   Located  in  the  luxurious  Redcastle  Hotel,  in  )ULHOÂśV DGRSWHG KRPHODQG RI ,QLVKRZHQ D packed  programme  will  include  seminars,  drama  workshops,  a  bus-­WULS DURXQG Âľ%DOO\EHJÂś and  the  prestigious  annual  Brian  Friel  Lecture  ZKLFK ZLOO EH GHOLYHUHG WKLV \HDU E\ )ULHOÂśV ORQJ-­ time  friend  and  associate,  Field  Day  founder  member,  Seamus  Deane.       Â

CORE  THEME  ¾0RYLQJ 7H[W WKH FKRUHRJUDSK\ RI  'DQFLQJ DW /XJKQDVDÂś  The  Artistic  Director  of  CoisCeim  Dance  Theatre,  David  Bolger,  has  choreographed  three  stage  productions  of  Dancing  at  Lughnasa  and  has  also  choreographed  the  1998  film  adaptation.  We  are  delighted  to  welcome  him  to  the  Brian  Friel  Summer  School  where  he  will  discuss  KLV ZRUN ZLWK 4XHHQÂśV 'UDPD /HFWXUHU Dr  Aoife  McGrath,  a  specialist  in  Irish  contemporary  dance.  WORKSHOPS  ¾3HUIRUPLQJ )ULHO V :RPHQÂś  From  Aunt  Lizzie  and  Madge  in  Philadelphia  Here  I  Come!  ,  by  way  of  the  eponymous  Cass  Maguire,  right  through  to  the  Mundy  sisters  in  Dancing  at  Lughnasa  Brian  Friel    has  provided  actresses,  with  some  of  the  most  satisfying  roles  for  women  in  Irish  Theatre.  These  workshops  invite  actresses  of  any  age  and  of  all  levels  of  experience  (or  none)  to  take  the  opportunity  to  get  to  grips  with  some  of  these.   Working  under  the  tutelage  of  Dr  Brenda  Winter-­Palmer  (actress,  Queen's  lecturer,  director  and  founder  member  of  both  Charabanc  Theatre  Company  and  Replay  Productions)  participants  will  workshop,  assemble  and  rehearse  a  theatrical  collage  of  Friel's  most  iconic  female  characters.  Â

The  director  Conall  Morrison  has  described  the  creation  of  Public  and  Private  Gar  as  the  equivalent  of  splitting  the  atom  in  the  way  in  which  it  brought  an  incredible  new  burst  of  energy  to  Irish  Theatre.  Since  then,  Brian  )ULHO KDV FRQWLQXHG WR EH RQH RI WKH ZRUOGÂśV PRVW consistently  inventive  dramatists.  Using  a  range  of  VFHQHV WKLV VKRUW VHULHV RI ZRUNVKRSV OHG E\ 4XHHQÂśV Drama  Lecturer  and  director  David  Grant,  will  provide  the  chance  for  participants  actively  to  explore  innovations  like  the  bi-­lingual  love  scene  from  Translations,  the  embodiment  of  inner  thoughts  in  Philadelphia,  Here  I  Come!  and  the  spoken  subtext  in  )ULHOÂśV &KHNKRY DGDSWDWLRQ The  Yalta  Game.  ¾7KH 0RQRORJXH 3OD\VÂś Faith  Healer   &  Molly  Sweeney  7KLV ZRUNVKRS VHULHV OHG E\ 4XHHQÂśV 'UDPD /HFWXUHU Dr  Mark  Phelan,  will  focus  on  a  distinctive  strand  of  )ULHOÂśV GUDPD WKH PRQRORJXH SOD\V.  delving  deeply  into  )ULHOÂśV ULFKO\ SRHWLF ODQJXDJH WR XQSDFN VRPH RI LWV hidden  secrets.  The  intensely  intricate  structure  of  these  plays  provide  actor  and  director  alike  with  a  fascinating  challenge  as  they  seek  to   unpick  the  often  contradictory  clues  to  character  and  narrative.  Each  play  presents  us  with  differing  versions  of  the  same  events  by  three  protagonists,  two  male  and  one  female.
