Supported by

The best in the west Welcome to Fermanagh’s very own Arts Festival - now in its 7th year. As Chair of FLive 2015, I am honoured to follow in the footsteps of my predecessors and to build on strong foundations. Our aim is to present an exciting programme of music, theatre, visual and educational events with something to whet every appetite. This year, for the first time, following the new council structure that incorporates both the Fermanagh and Omagh districts, I am delighted to extend the invitation to participate in FLive 2015 well beyond our own borders and into Co. Tyrone -not forgetting our neighbours in Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal, all of whom will find a warm welcome at FLive.

2

I could draw your attention to many items in the programme - to Bronagh Gallagher, actor, singer, songwriter and broadcaster.......for example. But really, the programme speaks for

itself. Examine the pages that follow and you will find them jam-packed with home-grown talent alongside some truly astounding international performers. As an inclusive festival you will also find many free events and activities that will appeal to children. A personal word of thanks to the great team of people who work so hard to put on this festival each year. Special thanks also to our principle sponsors, the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, for acknowledging the importance of the role of arts in the life of the community by providing their support. To complete the picture, we just need you! Dive in and sample some of ‘The Best In The West’ ....and more.

Are you a poet and don’t know it? The All Ireland Poetry Slam, now in its 9th year, offers the chance to find out. Participants will write and perform two poems up to 3 minutes long which will be judged both for their content and presentation. Following September heats in Belfast, Derry, Strabane, Donegal and Enniskillen, winners and runners up will take part in The Ulster regional final to be held in Blakes pub during

FLive. The chosen winner and runner-up will then go forward to represent Ulster in the All Ireland final in Belfast in November. Last year’s Enniskillen winner, Stephen Murphy, won the All Ireland title in Kilkenny and we would hope that, over the next few years, it will be the turn of Enniskillen to host the All Ireland Poetry Slam Final. Come along for the craic and encourage these budding poets.

broadband reception. The bold Victor Maguire is a crude, vulgar, abrupt, un-PC Cavan farmer who gets a surprise one Friday morning. We are then taken on a whirlwind journey though Victor’s somewhat sad and unconventional life, meeting up with many a strange bucko along the way…Hold on to your hats… and your sweets (because there may be Cavan people in the audience)… this could get messy.

by her teachers and friends, Kathleen Bridle, William Scott and T.P. Flanagan. Her work includes touching, tender and nostalgic landscapes inspired by the Fermanagh lakelands and distilled with cherished memories of lapping waters fringed with golden sedges and towering bulrushes; of the Broad Lough beneath ever changing expansive skies, of sunny summer meadows and farmed fields. Nowadays, Denise is inspired by the view from her studio window overlooking Trawbreaga Bay on Donegal’s Inishowen Peninsula.

A one-off, intimate and personal tour of the art works at Castle Coole by art connoisseur and collector Lord Belmore, who for the last 25 years has been adding to family portraits and original acquisitions with paintings which are in keeping with the style and period of Wyatt’s elegant neo-classical mansion.

opening address of the Fermanagh Live Festival, illustrating how his involvement with paintings, both his own and other people’s, informs his photography. The photographs in this exhibition develop the ideas expressed in that original talk.
