That’s not all, for creative young minds there’s a week-long series of workshops to beat the summer boredom. They’ll enjoy getting to grips with the basics of filmmaking using iPads and green screen technology, making and starring in their own short movie, designing a robot character in the FabLab and so much more! Booking is essential.
We go slightly darker for our evening programme with films exploring adulterous liaisons with bittersweet consequences (Bright Days Ahead), revenge (Wild Tales), family ties (Force Majeure) and the lengths people will go to in the desperate pursuit of fame (The Great Hip Hop Hoax). We also have a special screening of Gascoigne, an exhilarating account of Paul Gascoigne’s extraordinary career, and an authorised documentary on the late musician Kurt Cobain, from his early days in Aberdeen, Washington to his success and downfall with the grunge band Nirvana (Cobain: Montage of Heck). Have a great summer!

An authorised documentary on the late musician Kurt Cobain, from his early days in Aberdeen, Washington to his success and downfall with the grunge band Nirvana. Cobain was a contemporary genius and we’re shown that even from an early age, it was clear he had far too much going on in his head. Afflicted with hypersensitivity, or ADHD as some might call a version of it now, he was a happy young child but his parents were never really connected. Once they divorced, he was thrown around between family members and never found his life balance as he struggled to attach himself to a place in the world around him or the socalled normal life we’re all told exists.
From director Damián Szifrón and producer Pedro Almodóvar comes six stories, each exploring a different facet of revenge and the various brilliant, mad, toe-curling and hilarious ways it is dished out. Whether it’s taking out a belligerent crime lord, getting even with officious parking enforcement, retribution for infidelity, or good old fashioned road rage, Wild Tales takes acts of vengeance for infuriating, often all too familiar situations and blows them out to a bitter and hysterical end in this outrageous, tense and ferociously funny dark comedy.
“Like a Cobain mixtape brought to feral life, Montage is scruffy, sharp and insightful on an oft-explored subject. The payoff is terribly moving - it’ll drain you.” Kevin Harley, Total Film
“Preposterous, violent, blackly funny… An absolute cracker.” Donald Clarke, Irish Times
COBAIN: MONTAGE OF HECK
“As raucous, complex, uncomfortable, brilliant, astonishing and unique as Kurt Cobain was, so is Cobain: Montage Of Heck… Haunting and superbly intoxicating.” Dan Bullock, Hollywood News
WILD TALES (RELATOS SALVAJES)
Oscar® nominated.
“Riotously entertaining… Exhilaratingly funny.” Wendy Ide, The Times

The dreamlike soundtrack for the film is provided by Cat’s Eyes - the collaborative project of The Horrors’ frontman Faris Badwan and Italian-Canadian singer and composer Rachel Zeffira. Blending orchestral instrumentation, psychedelic sounds and Zeffira’s soprano, The Times has already declared it ‘one of the albums of 2015’.
“An immensely rewarding, amusing, wise, melancholy and involving experience.” Kim Newman, Empire “A tied up and twisted masterpiece.” Little White Lies
Californian hip-hop duo Silibil n’ Brains were going to be massive. No one realised the pair were really Scottish, with fake American accents and made up identities. When their promising Scottish rap act was branded “the rapping Proclaimers” by scornful A&Rs, friends Billy and Gavin reinvented themselves as LA homeboys. The lie was their golden ticket to a dream life. With confessions from the scammers, insight from the music execs they duped, the film charts the roller coaster story of the highs of the scam and the lows of madness and the personal toll the deception took. A film about truth, lies and the legacy of faking everything in the desperate pursuit of fame.
FORCE MAJEURE

Although everyone survives, he soon finds his relationship with his wife and children falling apart as they struggle to forgive him for abandoning them. Nominated for a Golden Globe.
“A jolt. You won’t know what hit you.” Rolling Stone
“A great tale of a rock’n’roll swindle told with pop star flair and biting intelligence.” The Herald

CLASSIC DOCUMENTARY: PARIS IS BURNING
Jennie Livingston’s award-winning, criticallyacclaimed documentary pays tribute to the vibrant subculture of New York’s drag balls of the late eighties, an underground scene that famously became the inspiration for Madonna’s ‘Vogue’. This cult classic explores the glamour-on-abudget world of Harlem drag balls, in which young, gay, black and Latino New Yorkers – on the brink of the Aids epidemic – dress up and compete on makeshift catwalks for prizes and plaudits. Paris Is Burning is an intimate portrait of a time, a place and a community of outsiders finding expression, strength and pride in a world of their own invention. “A superb documentary… as flamboyant, impressive and hard-hitting as a well executed vogue.” Channel4.com
