EAMON Zayed has poured cold water on a possible return to the Brandywell, despite being a free agent. The Dubliner signed a six month deal with Iranian side Persepolis in December and has since become a huge hit, scoring 12 goals in 12 games, as well as five goals in five games in the Asian Champions’ League. The 28 year year old has been such a hit in Iran that he has been offered an extended two year deal with the club, but he has returned to Ireland in the meantime to mull over his future, with offers coming in from America, Qater, Dubai and Australia. Zayed will be at the Brandywell for tomorrow night’s game between Derry City and Shelbourne and although he is looking forward to renewing acquaintances, he admitted the chance of him returning to the League of Ireland was slim. “It has gone unexpectedly well for me out there,” Zayed told the Derry News. “It took me a while to get used to a new place and a new culture but once I got my chance things went well from there. It’s a good standard of football and I’m playing in the Asian Champions’ League in front of some unbelievable crowds. Persepollis offered me a two year deal and although I said I wanted time to think about it, I probably will sign it. “I know a few managers wanted to talk to me when I got back to Ireland but I haven’t spoken with any of them. I’m looking forward to going back to the Brandywell. I enjoyed my time there and I’m still friendly with a lot of guys there. I’m looking forward to seeing Declan Devine and Sean Barrett but I’m not thinking about a return to Ireland if I’m honest."
