An experimental process driven studio. The final proposal was conceived after thorough investigation and analysis of the human behavioral movement pattern similar to the proposed site i.e. The Princess Bridge. At the micro level ,a series
of experimental prototypes were created to understand the detail, the connection and the functioning of the overall structure and together with the understanding of the site, the proposal was designed in response to the conditioning of the site.

NODAL SYSTEM
What we uncovered from our precedent were the successful flexible nodes. These nodes allowed rotation and sliding movement along both directions of the lath. These properties of the nodes would allow formation of unconventional geometric from conventional setups, the orthodox Cartesian grid in our case. We were keen to take this and develop it in our prototyping stage.

A residential project for a multi generational family. Barbara, the client, lives with his husband, two children, her mother and a pet dog. The brief was to design spaces that would cater to each of the inhabitant’s needs with the challenge of those spaces not becoming purposeless over time. Interaction with Barbara unveiled that her family always had frequent friends, family and guests invited for meals which they were particularly enjoyed cooking for. The multi-generational setting of the house required to have privacy for all parties, thus the bedrooms of each of the fami-

ly member was arranged at each ends without having a shared wall between them. The void left by the bedrooms allowed the opportunity to bring in ample amount of natural lighting into the house which would also be beneficial for Barbara’s interest in photography inside the house. Without disturbing the flow of light the conglomeration of furniture would be inserted. The conglomeration includes the stairs the dining table, the play house, library and multiple sitting pieces. It is almost as a single piece, to be cut ,contoured profiled, using CNC router and assembled on site as array of layers at 20 cm apart.

MOCA In an ever-growing solemn world of Architecture, to be playful often becomes obsolete. St Kilda known to be Melbourne’s sea-side playground, presents an opportunity to encapsulate the playful spirit of St Kilda in designing the MOCA. With befitting post-modernist work of Venturi’s Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture, the proposed MOCA is heavily influenced by it. The MOCA tries to be, if not purely, of what the inherent essence of the monumental piece of writing connotes.

It is to introduce playful forms through formal experimentation and investigation of geometric imbalance. On the surface, these tangible references are explicit and are easily recognised by the eye. However, the implicit allusions purposefully reads as intangible layers of references to the meaning of precedent themselves or/and applied to the state of the cultural ethos of St Kilda. This was in aim to read the architecture as art itself, the entirety of the MOCA as a collective sculptural garden, encouraging users to wander around, in spirit of the esplanade, and engage with the architecture itself.

3003 This thesis argues that play is essential to the learning and growth of the child. Play that not only pertains and caters to the physiological development but also that nurtures the mind and builds character of the child. In this overprotective and ever-growing parasitic technological world, we’re losing our children partaking in the greatest experience of their lives, which is to be playful. This proposal aims, in its highest ideals, to encourage children not be idle and afraid but to run, fall, get hurt, take risks, make friends, daydream, learn about themselves and grow up to be a human being in the process.

Apart from lack of schools for children, there exist a considerable lack of spaces for play in the Melbourne CBD which reflects the overtly serious nature of the city and its culture. However, this is an opportunity to introduce an element of playfulness, in spirit and in form, as implied by Steven Holl

LEARNING SPACE| 2018 FEDERATION EAST |MELBOURNE (2009) to balance an odd with the opposite. Johan Huizinga (1942) describes play as not real life or ordinary but to be rather stepping into a temporary world with disposition of its own. Play is to be free and in fact freedom. And to me, to be playful is be curious, inventive and willing. My approach is to fulfil these criteria by creating spaces that caters to it whilst also maintaining the spirit of play in the manifestation of the architecture. Johan Huizinga mentions play is based on manipulation of reality or the image of reality. For an instance, I use the playful neighbour Federation square which forms the basis of my reality which I intentionally take moments and spaces from it that I playfully manipulate to mould my design from. This method is employed throughout the design process using broad varieties of precedents when needed to fulfil a criterion or achieve an ideal.

EX-LAB| 2017 MSD |MELBOURNE An elective where we were encouraged to explore new materials and interaction between them, experiment with unconventional processes and most importantly to produce physical prototypes. With my design, I experimented with liquid resin as the casting material and 0.45mm latex sheets as the moulds. I was particularly keen in a sculptural piece rather than a functional piece. The dialogue between the two materials, the flexibility of resin and latex sturdiness of the pine radiata dowels and the transition between the two materials.

EX-LAB| 2017 MSD |MELBOURNE Stool 1 assignment was to be created using only 3mm sheets of plywood as the core material. The goal was to create a pure and simple furniture given the modest characteristic of the material itself. Multiple layers of ply-sheets at different lengths were stacked and bent and dowels were inserted through the sheets to hold the sheets. All of it was done just through dry joints and the outcome was a compression based stool which was also stable.

Stool 2 assignment was to create a stool

based on a machine. The 3D printing machine being a fairly new technology for mass producing, it was a challenge to use it. The second stool was a modular piece, where one piece was 3D printed and the rest of the pieces were casted using resin into a silicon mould. The mould was created fro the first 3D printed piece. This was done in order to save time and cost as the casting method is quicker and cheaper. At the end, all the pieces were assembled though a male and female joint system into a contrasting timber piece.
