Welcome Welcome to our final outing at home for the 2015 ANZ Championship, and what a season it’s been so far! After posting heart-stopping drawn results in our first couple of games here at Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre, it’s been nice to claim wins in front of our home fans in recent weeks. We’ll be looking to continue that trend today against the Mainland Tactix, all the while keeping our 2015 Finals dreams alive. I must sound like a broken record, but every year it seems the competition is getting tighter and 2015 has certainly been without question one of the closest contests we’ve seen since the inaugural season. We’ve already seen six drawn results this year after the Trans-Tasman Netball League (TTNL) introduced the end of Extra Time during the regular season. Compare this to 2008 where just four matches were forced into Extra Time after 60 minutes, it shows how the game has evolved over time.
One thing that continues to grow over the years is the fantastic support from you guys – our amazing Swifts Members and fans – who turn up at every home game ready to cheer us on. From our record-breaking Membership four months before our first game, to a recordbreaking crowd at Allphones Arena; your support does not go unnoticed! As Kim Green often states, the players are out there playing for you – they ride on your passion for the Club, your loud cheers lifting the team at integral moments. So on behalf of Netball NSW and the NSW Swifts, I would like to Thank You for your continued passion for our team. You are without doubt the world’s best Members and fans, and we hope we can continue to reward your support with a win today and a successful 2015 Finals Series in the hope of delivering you our first Premiership title in eight years.
Go Swifts!

Paige Hadley Making a Swift Return
There have been plenty of fantastic moments for NSW Swifts’ fans to saviour so far this season, but for many the sight of midcourter Paige Hadley taking the court during the team’s pre-season game against the Northern Mystics is definitely up there. In that single moment, the 22-year-old put behind her 11 months of gruelling rehab from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and signalled her return to the ANZ Championship. After an outstanding 2013 season, which saw Paige make her Australian Diamonds debut and named Australian 21/U Team Player of the Year, many had tipped her as the one to watch in 2014. However, after a solid performance in the Swifts’ opening round against the West Coast Fever, Paige’s 2014 season came to a cruel end when she injured her left knee during a training drill ahead of the team’s Round 2 trip to Christchurch. While Paige confesses there was some selfloathing for the first week or so, it didn’t take too long for her positive attitude towards life to re-establish itself. “Obviously getting injured was very disappointing, and to happen so early into the season was even more frustrating,” explained Paige. “During my rehab I shifted the focus I would normally give to training and games, into doing everything possible to get the knee right in time for the new season. “I also went back to university full-time, which means I will now hopefully finish my degree at the end of this year, so there is always a
positive to every negative,” stated Paige, who is doing a Degree in Business and Commerce at the University of Western Sydney. While her peers marvelled at the way Paige approached her rehab, the NSW junior admits it was the support of those around her which made the road back much easier than it looked. “I was blessed to have the backing of a number of networks, but my family were probably the biggest supporters. They always had monthly goals for me to achieve and tick off, plus my brother (Rob) is an exercise physiologist who always had exercises for me to do.” “I also had the whole Swifts Family behind me and everyone at Netball NSW was amazing, but I have to highlight the support of both Jason (Howell) and Lukas (Cannan) at NSWIS (New South Wales Institute of Sport). “They made me laugh every day, challenged me on the days they knew I didn’t want to be there, and helped me achieve all the goals I needed to. I don’t think I would be in the position I am today if it wasn’t for them.” No one puts more pressure on Paige than herself, and while coming into the 2015 season in great physical shape, it’s taken her time to regain her dynamic style of play. “You think you’re going to come back exactly how you were before the injury (but) obviously that’s not the case.”
“I’ve been working closely with (Assistant Coach) Anita (Keelan), and with each game I’m getting better with my connections, my confidence and getting different skillsets back. “While I had the fitness going into the season, I now feel my whole game is coming together and that’s another reason why I want us to make the Finals, as I feel I still have a lot more to give to the team,” remarked Paige, who watched the Swifts’ Minor Semi-Final appearance last season from the stands at Allphones Arena. Whilst the Swifts had an inconsistent start to the 2015 ANZ Championship, the team has shown over the past few weeks the danger they pose to opponents leading into the business end of the season. “We have an amazing roster, and yes people have been saying we were the favourites and we have underperformed, but there were a lot of new combinations and success doesn’t come overnight,” described Paige. “Hopefully we can continue to build upon our recent performances, reach the Finals, and peak at the right time, as none of us are going to let go of that dream which is to lift the ANZ Championship Trophy at the end of the season,” concluded Paige. Rebecca Trbojevich
“It probably took the first three rounds to realise I had been out for 12 months and match play is something you can’t replicate, it’s something you have to be involved in,” Paige explained.

COOKING TIME: 40mins
TOTAL TIME: 55mins
I like Moussaka as you can put any vegetables in it that you like! It’s got a good mix of carbohydrates and protein, so it’s good before or after a hard training session. The bonus is you don’t have to be neat – just throw it all together; especially if you’re a messy cook like me!

Ingredients • 1 large (or 2 small) Chicken Breast, skin off (can also use mince) • Cheddar Cheese, grated • 2 x tins of chopped Tomatoes • Potatoes • 1 x Broccoli • 2 x Carrots • 1 x Aubergine (or as Aussies call it, Eggplant) • 1 x Red Pepper (or as you call it, Capsicum) • 1 x Onion of your choice (Brown, Red or Shallots/ Spring Onions) • 1 x large Garlic Clove, chopped or minced • Olive Oil (I use the spray version) Prepare • Peel and slice enough potatoes for two (2) layers of whichever baking dish size you choose • Grate your cheese; enough to sprinkle on top • Peel and roughly chop your remaining ingredients • Preheat oven to 180°C Directions • Spray oil in a large pan and add your onions. Once chicken fully cooked, add the remaining vegetables and stir for a few minutes. • Add your tin tomatoes and simmer until chicken/vegetables are cooked nice and tender. • Meanwhile, boil your sliced potatoes until soft but are not falling apart. • Take your dish and add one layer of chicken/vegetable mixture, then one layer of potatoes. Repeat. • Sprinkle the top of your final potato layer with grated cheddar cheese. • Put dish in the oven and bake for 20-30 minutes until cheese is golden and melted. • Serve up and enjoy… but remember it will be hot!

Thank you from the Captain
Today is the NSW Swifts’ final outing at home for the 2015 ANZ Championship. It’s a sad thought for the team, but we know it’s not the end of our campaign with back-to-back away games to end our regular season. While we won’t be at home to hear your cheers, your support will be with us on court when we travel to Melbourne to take on the Vixens (Round 13) and Perth to meet the West Coast Fever (Round 14). The Australian Conference has been an incredibly tight contest this season, and therefore we are still unsure of our position in the Finals Series; any number of scenarios could eventuate in the final three rounds. All we know is that if we can continue our winning
momentum, we will be in a good position come the newly-formed Conference Finals’ system. But given this will be our last chance to farewell our amazing Members and fans at home, I wanted to take this opportunity to Thank You all for the unbelievable support that you give us. We say it all the time – we have the world’s best fans – and you proved that once again in 2015. I’ve been a member of the Club for my entire career, and it was a special feeling to know that for the very first time we had sold out Memberships four months before the first game of the 2015 season had even been played. That, combined with another record-breaking regular season crowd at Allphones Arena, is just proof in numbers that you guys rock.
But in all honesty, it’s the small things that stay with me the most. The cheers when we are called onto court; the fan-made posters that are held up proudly in the crowds; or meeting you guys at one of our many Club events. I’m very proud to be Captain of the NSW Swifts, and with that honoured to take this opportunity to once again Thank You for your continued support of this Club. We hope to see you again next year for what will be an even bigger 2016 ANZ Championship that I’m sure will go Beyond Expectation. Kim Green

Australia Post One Netball
In 2014 Netball Australia and Australia Post joined together to develop a program that would help introduce netball to new communities including multicultural and Indigenous communities, people with a disability and regional and remote communities. The result is the Australia Post One Netball program, which is being celebrated throughout Round 12 at Australian ANZ Championship matches. Australia is a very diverse and inclusive country, with one in four people born overseas and over 300 languages spoken throughout our community. Research shows that netball has lower participation rates for people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD)
and Indigenous backgrounds, as well as people with disability.
programs to break down barriers and provide inclusive participation opportunities for everyone.
The goals of the Australia Post One Netball program are to: • Build capacity within our sport to extend the reach of netball into diverse communities; • Engage Australia’s netball community in a dialogue about creating more inclusive environments, and; • Invest in programs and activities that create connection within communities.
Australia’s population is changing in both size and diversity, as are the communities in which netball operates. One Netball presents us all with an opportunity to make our netball environments more inclusive for all, from the club house to the Diamonds. Join the One Netball Community at www.onenetball.org.au and help us celebrate our wonderfully diverse netball community.
