Physical test preparation • Initial orientation • You have up to 15 minutes to start, get comfortable • Time the start to match YOUR best time of the day. • Clear your mind, do not cram & study up until the last moment
• Physical preparation • Do not slump, keep your breathing through the diaphragm • https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/08/180803160212.htm
• Take mints, starting with one in your mouth • Hit the restroom one more time • A light high sugar meal no less than an hour before.
• Mental preparation • Answers should be flash card quick • Do NOT overthink the question www.netcomlearning.com | info@netcomlearning.com | (888) 563 8266

More Preparation • When are you ready? • When you can get above 90% when answers are random AND questions are random • If you fail, it prepares you for the second attempt • Scheduling • You will never feel ready, schedule so you cannot cancel without losing registration fee • If you fail to pass, leave and write down as much as you can remember about the questions you were unsure about. Study based on that.

Drag & Drop questions • These are difficult in that there will be extra choices you will not use. • The order is critical, so you must have done it in the lab or in the real world. • Find a way to create a meme to help you remember the process. For example the first letter of the DHCP process spells out DORA.

Fill in the blanks from a pool of choices • These are typically done in PowerShell answers, and many times they are parameters. • Understand what the line is trying to accomplish and then pick out one of the answers as if it were part of a jig saw puzzle. Try each in turn until one of the slots makes sense. • It is usually in the order of naming the object and then applying the cmdlet, and then naming the parameter.

The worst scenario, and commonly used • You will get a question where at the end it asks does the proposed solution meet the requirement. And the answer is yes or no. • This is usually started by the statement “The following scenario will be repeated, with the same requirements and different solutions” • You must understand the what is trying to be accomplished and then you must understand what the solution will actually do. READ THE REQUIREMENT CLOSELY.

Actual test process • When you take the test go all the way through it on the first pass. Accept your instinct when choosing your answer. If in doubt, mark the question and come back to it on the second pass. The second pass is ONLY for marked questions. Do not change your initial answer without positive proof your initial selection was incorrect. Overriding your first answer is called overthinking. • You cannot redo the scenario questions once you leave the scenario. Do the same thing as above, but within the scenario. • When you do not know the answer, work backwards. Eliminate the wrong answer(s) until you are down to two, then guess. • All questions have the same value. The more difficult have the same scoring as the easy ones. Do not get hung up on a question. www.netcomlearning.com | info@netcomlearning.com | (888) 563 8266

Same answer set, with different questions • When a question has 9 answers, it usually means they will be used in another similar question. Your technique must be to find a key word or phrase in the question that you can mentally link to one of the answers. • An excellent technique is to learn WHY the individual answers in a question are wrong, rather than just knowing which is the right answer. • When you study from a pool of questions, look for questions that are reversed. The first time the goal was to enable, while the second version of the question the goal is to disable. • All questions have the same value. The more difficult have the same scoring as the easy ones. Do not get hung up on a question.

Multiple choice • The answer will be square check boxes • The question will end with how many answers are required • The question will tell you if the correct answers are part of a sequence or if the correct answers are alternate ways of accomplishing the same goal • Be careful to check the box itself, not just somewhere on the line, expecting the box to fill in

Summary • These techniques are to help you when orient yourself mentally when you know the product. These tips help you organize your thought process. If you do have not done the labs in the course, or at a minimum worked with the situation both in the GUI and in PowerShell, then you have a much lower chance of passing. • Memorization without comprehension is a waste of your time and testing fee. • The test does not reflect the real world. Every question has a troubleshooting background, and you must think that way. • The test is based on the information in the book at the time it was published, NOT the real world • When given a series of choices in the answer, one of them is correct, even if it is not how you would do it in the real world. Find that answer by knowing, or find the answer by elimination. www.netcomlearning.com | info@netcomlearning.com | (888) 563 8266

Summary continued • On some questions, mostly multiple choice, it is possible to get partial credit. The question will state “each answer is worth one point”. • No one cares about your score. It is pass or fail based on the questions pulled from the pool. You can score high or low, depending on how well you know the topics randomly pulled from the pool for your test. • I cannot confirm, but there is a belief that the pool questions for each day are fixed, not randomized for each person. Therefore, in case of a fail, you can look up the answers and retake the test that day and have a good chance of passing the second time. • You can purchase a test voucher that includes a second attempt for the same test. www.netcomlearning.com | info@netcomlearning.com | (888) 563 8266
