ALEISTER CROWLEY - THE AXIS OF EVIL The man who revelled in being called “Great Beast 666″ and dubbed by the press as the “Wickedest Man in History” was more than a theatrical occultist: Aleister Crowley is at the heart of one of the most influential movements of the 20th and 21st centuries.

He also had ties with some of the world’s most powerful figures, even working with the British Intelligence Agency MI-5. This article describes the life and works of occultist Aleister Crowley and looks at his ties with the world elite which facilitated the propagation of the Thelema.

Although he is considered to be the most influential occultist of the 20th century and was recognized by the BBC as the 73rd “greatest Briton of all time”, most people have never heard of Aleister Crowley.

The English occultist, mystic and ceremonial magician is incredibly popular in some circles (occultists, artists, celebrities, etc.) but completely unknown to the average person. And why should he be known? What did he accomplish? Simply put, he foreshadowed the radical philosophical change that would sweep the Western civilization during the 20th century. By founding the philosophy of Thelema and announcing the coming of a New Aeon, Crowley did not only formulate the major philosophical precepts of the 21st century, he was part of the Illuminist motor that promoted it.

Because of Crowley’s sexual rituals, drug consumption and dabblings in Black Magick (he introduced the letter “k” at the end of “magic” to differentiate it from the entertainment kind) , Crowley was maligned and heavily criticized by the press during his lifetime. However, declassified documents have since revealed that the “Great Beast 666″ led a double life: Crowley apparently maintained ties with the British Government and worked with the British intelligence and high-ranking members of the American Government. (O.T.O) was the secret society he popularized which held within its ranks some of the most influential people of the time, who in turn used their power to further the advancement of its main philosophy: the Thelema. .

Crowley was born to a wealthy and religious family.

His parents were part of the exclusive Brethren, a conservative faction of the Christian denomination called the Plymouth Brethren. His father, a travelling preacher for his sect, was particularly devout and was said to read a chapter from the verse to his wife and son every day after breakfast. While Crowley maintained a good relationship with his father, he despised his mother, who described him as “the beast” a name he later adopted as his life-long moniker.

After losing his father to lung cancer at age 11, Crowley inherited the family fortune and went on studying English literature at Trinity College in Cambridge. It is during those academic years that Crowley began renouncing and even rebelling against his Christian background. He seriously questioned the Bible, partook in sexual activities with local girls and prostitutes and developed an acute interest in occultism. Another symbolic step towards his self-affirmation was his name change from Edward Alexander to Aleister. Here’s an excerpt from his autobiography describing the reasons behind his name change:

ALEISTER CROWLEY - THE AXIS OF EVIL “For many years I had loathed being called Alick, partly because of the unpleasant sound and sight of the word, partly because it was the name by which my mother called me. Edward did not seem to suit me and the diminutives Ted or Ned were even less appropriate.

Alexander was too long and Sandy suggested tow hair and freckles. I had read in some book or other that the most favourable name for becoming famous was one consisting of a dactyl followed by a spondee, as at the end of a hexameter: like Jeremy Taylor. Aleister Crowley fulfilled these conditions and Aleister is the Gaelic form of Alexander. To adopt it would satisfy my romantic ideals.

The atrocious spelling A-L-E-I-S-T-E-R was suggested as the correct form by Cousin Gregor, who ought to have known better. In any case, A-L-A-I-S-D-A-I-R makes a very bad dactyl. For these reasons I saddled myself with my present nom-de-guerre—I can’t say that I feel sure that I facilitated the process of becoming famous. I should doubtless have done so, whatever name I had chosen.”

Perhaps Crowley’s most significant experiences of his youth were his homosexual relations which, according to his later biographer Lawrence Sutin, led him to an “encounter with an immanent deity”. This triggered in him a great interest in occultism, secret societies and, more specifically, what he will later call Sex Magick.

In his late twenties, Crowley joined many esoteric groups where he was either admired and rose high in the ranks or despised and expelled. Inspired by Arthur E. Waite’s book, The Book of Black Magic and of Pacts, Crowley joined the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn known as the “Great White Brotherhood” in 1898. This secret society held within its membership elite and highly influential members of society. There he was introduced to ceremonial magic and the ritualistic usage of drugs.

With the help of prominent author and Freemason John Yarker, Crowley obtained other Masonic degrees including the 3° In France by the AngloSaxon Lodge No. 343, 33° of the irregular ‘Cerneau’ Scottish Rite and 90°/95° of the Rite of Memphis/Misraim 5.

According to the United Grand Lodge of England however, whose recognition is generally considered the standard for Masonic validity, none of these Masonic bodies were considered regular and he was never considered an official Freemason.

In 1904, Crowley and his new wife Rose visited Egypt for their honeymoon. It is during this trip that he wrote his most famous book Liber Legis, The Book of the Law, which would become the cornerstone of his life.

As head of the O.T.O in California, Crowley tutored many individuals who had a great impact on American Society. One of them is Jack Parsons.

Jack Parsons, was an American rocket propulsion researcher at the California Institute of Technology.

He was one of the principal founders of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Aerojet Corp. His rocket research was some of the earliest in the United States, and his pioneering work in the development of solid fuel and the invention of JATO units for aircraft was of great importance to the start of humanity’s space age. Hubbard’s Church of Scientology is today an extremely influential and well-funded sect that boasts within its ranks more than 8 million members, including high-profile celebrities like Tom Cruise, Will Smith, John Travolta and Lisa Marie Presley.

Although Crowley died nearly penniless, fighting a heroin addiction, his legacy is nevertheless nothing less than colossal. Crowley’s impact on today’s popular culture is noticeable on many levels, whether it is through direct references to his persona or through Thelema-inspired works.

Unlike most historical figures who lose their relevancy as the years go by, Crowley’s influence is steadily increasing in the 21st century. This is not only a result of luck or natural evolution, however.

Crowley and his O.T.O. maintained ties with highlevel members of the British and American governments, as well as with influential figures in science, law and culture. The world’s elite, predominated by Illuminist values, are in perfect accord with Crowley’s Thelema.

HELENA BLAVATSKY - THE AXIS OF EVIL The New Age Movement has its roots in ancient history, although the revival of New Age as we know it today, is anchored in 1860-1890, in the work of a Russian born Madame Helena Blavatsky (18311891). The crucial role of Helena Blavatsky can best be illustrated with the following quote:

Helena Petrovna Hahn Blavatsky, born to a distinguished family in the Ukraine, 1831, was married to Gen. N.P. Blavatsky, but soon deserted him and left Russia. According to the memoirs of her cousin Count Whitte, she spent some time in Cairo and Tibet before arriving in New York in 1873.

Through a common interest inspiritualism, she became associated with Henry Steel Olcott, an American lawyer and newspaperman and student of spiritualism, in the formation of occult groups, culminating in the sixteen-member Theosophical Society.

HELENA BLAVATSKY - THE AXIS OF EVIL Shortly after 1975, a century after this whole preparation started, the New Age Movement started to go public. What is New Age? In "New Age Reforms", Prof. J.S. Malan, University of the North, South Africa, writes:

The dominant unity syndrome of the New Age Movement is the motivating power behind various actions by a whole network of organisations that all endeavour to create a new, integrated social order on earth, lead by one world government, with one world monetary system.

Madame Blavatsky promoted psychic phenomena, including supernatural dematerializations, trance medium exercises, and spirit manifestation. Some however, accused her of being a fraud and of using hypnosis on the audiences. There were even reports to the effect that wherever she went the air was full of "Spirit rapping" and "astral bells". The Great Masters were said to be responsible for making these things happen. She even claimed to have been initiated by two of these Masters in Tibet named Koothoomi and Morya.

Helena Blavatsky's book, Isis Unveiled, regarded as the "Bible" for New Ager Spiritualists, was written supposedly under the guidance of a disembodied set of these "Higher Spiritual Beings" that she called "Great Spirits" or "Mahatmas". She was so taken by these Great Masters that eventually she went so far as to even set up an altar for them in her home! Of course, we as Christians know that these spirits were merely a group of demonic entities who were sent by Satan to spread their theological lies, while posing as benefactors of mankind.

According to the reports of Colonel Olcott, Madame Blavatsky wrote this book of hers while in an altered state of consciousness:

In Spiritualism, different methods are used to induce a trance-like state, otherwise known as altered states of consciousness for the purpose of making the Spirit Medium vulnerable to the spirit world, that they might receive messages from the "other side". Followers of the New Age Religion apply several methods, such as hypnosis, drumming, biofeedback, Eastern Meditation, and visualization, to put them into this same trance state, for the purpose of contacting the spirit world!

In summary Blavatsky main contribution to mystical thought was the manner in which she sought to synthesise Eastern and Western philosophy and religion, thereby providing a framework for understanding universal occult teaching. Occult books were some of Hitler's favorite reading. It was in the early 1920’s Dietrich Eckart introduced Hitler to “The Secret Doctrine,” by Blavatsky. He was taught its secrets by Professor-General Karl Haushofer (Suster), who was a member of the Berlin Lodge of the Vril Society. One of the primary qualifications for one to be admitted to the Vril Society was to have a minimum ability in Blavatsky's “Secret Doctrine.” Karl Haushofer was alleged to be a master of the secret doctrines espoused

by Blavatsky, and it was he who initiated prisoner Adolf Hitler at Landsberg Prison.

In 1918, Haushofer went to live in Munich, which became a center of attraction for all manner of occultist and racist groups formed into secret societies. Haushofer eventually became one of the earliest members of the fledgling German Workers Party (DAP), which is the group that changed its name to the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP or “Nazi”) when Hitler became its leader. In 1918 (age 29) Hitler claimed to hear voices announcing that he was “selected by God to be Germany's messiah” (The Twisted Cross Joseph J. Carr, p.36); he was later contacted by an “ascended master” whom he identified as Lucifer. Hitler took what Blavatsky and others taught and made it his own.

Cumbey notes: “Hitler rightly believed he had established communication with Lucifer, from whom he openly coveted possession” (Secrets of the Rainbow p.101). It should not surprising to find that he was led to The Secret Doctrine that glorifies Lucifer.”

The “Secret Doctrine” held that they originated in Atlantis and that one of the seven Atlantean races was that of the Aryans.” The Aryans were the master-race or supermen of the Atlantean races.” The myth of Aryan superiority was the basis for Hitler’s Nazism and ethnic cleansing of the Jews.

Among the books was one that Hitler often kept by his bedside, the occult standard “The Secret Doctrine” by Madame Helen P. Blavatsky (Kubizek). Hitler kept a copy of Blavatsky's 'The Secret Doctrine' by his bedside, ever since being introduced to its teachings by Dietrich Eckart and Karl Haushofer (Adolf Hitler, The Occult Messiah, Gerald Suster, 1981).

Blavatsky not only claimed these masters were directing the work of the Theosophical Society but were also guiding the evolution of the human race throughout history. Thus Hitler found his place in the grand scheme of these masters. One of the ideas in this plan is to have men believe in evolution, spiritual evolution. Hitler wrote, “Anyone who interprets National Socialism merely as a political movement knows almost nothing about it. It is more than religion; it is the determination to create a new man.”

The Maitreya Hitler connection The Thule Society's Dietrich Eckart thought Hitler was Maitreya. The Thule Society (formed in 1914) was told in a séance that “Lord Maitreya” would soon make his appearance as a German messiah to “lead the Aryan race to final victory over the Jews.” Thule leader Dietrich Eckart was charged with the responsibility of 'nurturing' him (from The Twisted Cross, Joseph Carr, p.110).

Eckhart was to be the one to prepare the vessel of Lord Maitreya. When Hitler joined the Thule Society, member Dietrich Eckart prophesied that the day had come. Upon seeing Hitler for the first time he stated, Here is the one for whom I was but a prophet and forerunner. He began introducing him in Munich occult circles as “the long-awaited savior.”

Eckart understood his role to be that of a forerunner, liken to John the Baptist (history has repeated itself with Benjamin Crème as the forerunner of Maitreya.)

Eckart had told Hitler that he was to prepare the vessel who would be inspired to conquer the world and lead the Aryan race to glory. Hitler saw himself as that man. But to get to his goal he would have to eliminate some key obstacles to this new millennium that he thought would be started. The Jews were to be eliminated, then the Christians. Hitler rebelled against God that he even changed the LORD'S PRAYER to read, Our Father, Adolph, who art on earth, Hallowed be thy name, the Third Reich come...”

On his death bed in 1923, he stated, “Follow Hitler! He will dance but it is I who have called the tune! Huston Stuart Chamberlin was an English occult author who wrote, Key’s to Human History The rise and fall of races. He believed in a personal mystical connection to the pan-German movement. He spoke of Hitler as an awakener of souls, the vehicle of messianic powers He believed he was to bring in 1,000 years of peace to Germany; just as Jesus Christ will rule for 1,000 years, Hitler’s counterfeit plan was a 1,000-year Third Reich. Much of the church in Germany enjoined with Hitler’s new order as he promised “liberty for all religious denominations.” The German pastors joined his “German Christians” Faith Movement, believing in his unity and solutions for their country and world. It was the theory of evolution that played an influence in Hitler’s Aryan superiority, as the master race was to eliminate the inferior races to establish his New World Order. Only the strong and chosen elite would survive in Hitler’s democratic spiritual government, by the time he was finished few would be left.

Consider this statement from Alice Bailey on the failure of Judaism and the Jews' karmic debt from astrological influences: “Christ came to bring an end to the Jewish dispensation which should have climaxed and passed away as a religion... In the rejection of Christ as the Messiah, the Jewish race has remained symbolically and practically in the [astrological] sign of Aries, the Scapegoat [actually Aries is a ram, as noted elsewhere in this book, but the purpose for this “mistake” is self-evident]. [If they don't accept him in the person of Maitreya] they will repeat their ancient sin of non-response to the evolutionary process. They rejected that which was new and spiritual in the desert [making the golden calf at Sinai]; they did it again in Palestine 2000 years ago; will they do it again, as opportunity is offered to them?” (Alice Bailey, The Reappearance of the Christ, p.81).

Many New Agers hold to similar concepts of the Occultists/ Theosophists that inspired Hitler. Marilyn Furgueson along with a panel of New Ager’s on the Oprah Winfrey Show (1997) stated that the Jews brought on their own holocaust; it was their karmic debt.

ALICE BAILEY - THE AXIS OF EVIL Alice Bailey was born on June 16th, 1880 in the city of Manchester, England. She was raised in an orthodox christian family which she would say later, made her very unhappy and a bad tempered little girl.

"Life was not worth living," she said, and the feeling of worthlessness, and a certain amount of curiosity about life and death led her to attempt suicide three times before she was even fifteen.

At the age of fifteen her first mystical encounter occurred while her family had gone to church. While she was in a room reading, a man wearing a turban on his head suddenly entered her room. Startled, and not being able to say a word (an obvious out of place character in 19th century Manchester) this stranger spoke to her:

“He told me there was some work that it was planned that I could do in the world but that it would entail changing my disposition considerably; I would have to give up being such an unpleasant little girl and must try to get some measure of self-control. My future usefulness to Him and to the world was dependant on how I handled myself and the changes I could manage to make. He said that if I could achieve real self-control I could then be trusted and that I would travel all over the world and visit many countries, "doing your Master's work all the time" ... The encounter with her fated second "Master" and soon to be writing partner for an international esoteric movement occurred in 1919, while having a quiet time on a hill close to her house. She heard a note of music sounding everywhere which was followed by a voice (Djwhal Khul) that asked her if she was willing to write some books. Having refused, saying that she wouldn't engage in any psychic practices, the voice gave her three weeks to reconsider.

Agreeing to give it a try for a few weeks the first chapters of Initiation, Human and Solar were written. After about a month, Alice got scared; refusing to do anymore work the Master Djwhal Khul (DK) told her to discuss it with her Master Koot Humi. Koot Humi confessed that it was, in fact, him that told DK to contact her and he gave Alice permission to proceed after giving Mrs. Bailey the proper technique for enhanced telepathic communication.

Between 1919 and 1949 (her death), she produced twenty-four books, including an autobiography, nineteen of these books were supposedly written by her Tibetan Master DK (Djwhal Khul). During the intervening years, Alice Bailey spent most of it working out what she referred to as "The Plan." If World Goodwill so unblushingly advocates neo-pagan meditative practices, its overt promotion of an occult "plan" for the governing of the universe is nothing short of chilling: "There is an inner government of the planet known under such different names as the spiritual Hierarchy, the society of Illumined Minds, or Christ and his Church, according to various religious traditions. Humanity is never left without spiritual guidance or direction under the Plan... The widespread expectation that we approach the "age of Maitreya," as it is known in the East, when the World Teacher and present head of the spiritual Hierarchy, the Christ, will reappear among humanity to sound the keynote of the new age.... There are millions of mentally alert men and women in all parts of the world who are on rapport with the Plan and work to give it expression. The present version, giving in 1945 and shown above, was the third installment of a series of Invocations giving to Bailey by Djwhal Khul.

According to Lucis Trust, "The Great Invocation if given widespread distribution, can be to THE NEW WORLD RELIGION what the Lord's prayer has been to Christianity."

The wording was intentional, so that Christians would not become suspicious.

In Discipleship in the New Age II, p.165 we find, "I [Djwhal Khul] have so worded and rendered the Invocation [so] that the Christian world, through its churches, may not find it impossible to use."

This represents a calculated deception on DK's part.

On pp. 150 and 156, we learn: "It can be so presented to the masses everywhere, the general public, will be prompted to take it up and will use it widely... The meaning of this Invocation has been expressed in terms which are understandable, in a measure, to the average person because of its familiar wording, based on many Scriptural terms. But the true inner implications and significances are... not superficially apparent... They mean one thing to the ordinary man...; they mean another thing to the man upon the Probationary Path...; these words mean still another thing to the disciple...; to initiates and to the senior Members of the Hierarchy, they convey a still higher and more inclusive significance."

For instance: Light = Luciferian Enlightenment God = Satan stream forth = overshadow love = various forms of Scripturally defined evil or, generally hatred.

Christ = Antichrist little wills of men = the claimed unintelligent, weak and inferior desires of individuals; especially those that follow conservative Judeo-Christian doctrine. purpose = to prepare for the appearance of the Antichrist Masters = demons or demon controlled individuals. race of men = "humanity" as ruled by Lucifer plan = complete domination in preparation for and after the appearance of the Antichrist. seal the door where evil dwells = violent, if necessary, eradication of those that follow Judaism, conservative Christianity, some liberal Christianity, and other similar orthodox religions. [note: this is so because of the "separativeness" of these religious views. Djwhal Khul calls this evil, and that it must be eradicated for the Hierarchy's plans of the New AgeNew World Religion to proceed. In multiple passages DK identifies the Jews and Christians as the spirit of separativeness, i.e., John 14:6, and Exodus 20:3] power = often hideous and actual destructive forces.

The Great Invocation has now been translated into 50 languages and is the mantra of the New Age. It has even received the attention of world dignitaries at the UN where it has been sounded at many official conferences and during the opening ceremonies in 1992 at the UN's Earth Summit in Rio. During a talk given by Ida Urso at a Lucis Trust Arcane School conference in 1995, the connections between the UN and the Great Invocation were explained: "It is no coincidence that we are celebrating both the 50th anniversary of the Great Invocation and the United Nations. Both in different ways are pivotal to the Plan... let us together complete the triangle of light... let us contemplate that world body--'the hope of humanity'-which was conceived just 50 years ago under the impulse of the three spiritual Festivals (falling on March 28th, April 27th and May 26th)

That is indeed the case, and the actual words used are giving a totally opposite meaning when examined under the light of Biblical Scripture, and compared point for point with Bailey's writings (she often quotes scripture, the interpretations of which are giving by her channeled Master). THE ALICE ROYAL BAILEY BAVARIAN - THE AXIS ILLUMINATI OF EVIL Alice Bailey, in an address at the Arcane School Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, suggested that the "Shamballa force"-the force from the invisible dimensions led by the Lord Maitreya-will be "destructive." It will also, she said, eject unbelievers from the earth: "The decision to release the Shamballa force during this century into direct contact with the human kingdom is one of the final and most compelling acts of preparation for the New Age. The Shamballa force is destructive and ejective ... inspiring new understanding of The Plan....It is this force ... which will bring about that tremendous crisis, the initiation of the race into the mysteries of the ages.

Guess who the unbelievers are? When the Church is removed and they think it is because of the new age Christ it is only then their plan will take shape for a new world order. It was Hitler who spoke of a "thousand year Reich" carrying the concept of the biblical Millennium. One will have the choice to accept the New Age Messiah, receive the initiation or they will face the other alternative of being ejected.

This means destruction. This doesn’t sound like the love and tolerance we have been hearing from those who criticize the Christians for teaching there is only one Christ.

"Death by choice" hints at the fact that the "misfits" who reject the New Age Movement will not be the only ones required to face death. "Dying with grace" is the message of the "death education" curriculum taught as part of New Age Education; the underlying concept being "the beneficent nature of death" to remove that which has outlived its time.

This being taught to New Ager disciples as preparation for the predicted "cleansing cycle of Nature", which will remove the majority of humanity which suffers from "lower vibratory rates", as told to John Randolph Price by his spirit guide "Asher".

When Price, founder of "World Healing Day", balked a bit at the mass involuntary death of billions of people, his guide replied, "Who are we to say that these people did not volunteer to be a part of the destruction and regeneration."

Barbara Marx Hubbard has written, "Christ-consciousness and Christ-abilities are the natural inheritance of every human being on Earth. When the word of this hope has reached the nations, the end of this phase of evolution shall come. All will know their choice.

All will be required to choose..... All who choose not to evolve will die off; their souls will begin again within a different planetary system which will serve as kindergarten for the transition from self-centered to wholecentered being. THE ASCENDED MASTERS OBJECTIVE "I [Djwahl Kuhl, not Alice Bailey] have sought - with love and understanding - to point out the faults of the world religions...." Thus begins the outline of the "Masters' Plan" for world religion

Inexplicably, the only "world religion" whose "faults" are pointed out thereafter is Judaism, with Christianity suffering from corruption by Judaism. The plan for world religion takes the following format.

1. The reorganisation of world religions, if in any way possible, so that their out-of-date theologies, their narrow-minded emphasis, and their ridiculous belief that they know what is in the mind of God may be offset, in order that the churches may eventually be the recipients of spiritual inspiration.

2. The gradual dissolution, again if in any way possible, of the orthodox Jewish faith, with its obsolete teaching, its separative emphasis, its hatred of the Gentiles and its failure to recognize the Christ.

3. Preparation for a revelation which will inaugurate the new era and set the note for the new world religion [which will be brought personally by] the appearance of the Hierarchy on earth, bringing the new revelation.

David Spangler, Buckminster Fuller and Foster Bailey (Alice's husband) confirmed that religious freedom must end in the New Age, to be replaced by a world-state religion. We are told beforehand by Alice/"DK" (p.543): "It is this revelation which lies behind all the activities which now engross the attention of the Hierarchy."

In other words, the New Age is a religion, from beginning to end. And apparently it has identified Judaism, Islam and Christianity as the only religion which can possibly compete with it; hence they must be removed from the field. The New Age Movement recognises that much of Islam and Christianity was predicated on the Jewish Old Testament and so there is common synergy amongst all three religions in terms of their monotheistic and exclusive nature. The New Age Movement also recognises that many of the wars in history were because of conflict between these three religions.

The New Age Movement recognises that the monotheistic influence has shown more longevity than anticipated. In 1945, Maitreya announced that he would reveal himself when (among other global reforms) "people are released from authoritarian supervision of their religious thought." By his own admission, he must be invited by mankind to take over on a religious/spiritual level. Each postponement of Maitreya's "Day of Declaration" would indicate that the "release" from religion is not yet sufficient; meanwhile all three monotheistic religions appear to be experiencing some measure of revival among the youth worldwide.

This is precisely the group which New Age Movement is counting on most to welcome Maitreya and hand over Planet Earth, the group which New Age change agents have invested most of their efforts to indoctrinate.

Unlike the East, where these pagan teachings are familiar, in Western society there is a need to break down traditional monotheistic (and/or atheistic) resistance to them. To ease penetration, New Agers encourages "light encounters", psychic experiences which seem to carry the individual beyond normal consciousness into a new realm of spiritual sensation. Also known as "a doorway to higher consciousness", the suitably impressed person will be encouraged to seek this experience on a regular basis. The only way to achieve it, however, is through passivity and a willingness to submit one's mind to outside control of a "guide�.

THE ASCENDED MASTERS OBJECTIVE The increasing frustration among some New Age spokesmen is vented at what they believe are outdated faith systems which refuse to obey the "laws of human evolution" and die out. Lucis Trust in its World Goodwill Newsletter, Summer 1982, cited "three prominent examples" of "rising fanatical religious fundamentalism causing a rise in blatant militarism"; they named the United States - specifying "those who expect... the biblically prophesied global cataclysm (conservative Christian right)", Iran (no particulars) and Israel (also no specifics, implying that merely pairing them would say enough). Goodwill called these three "frightening... dangerous... a threat to world peace", although they are only "victims of fear".

Both Helen Blavatsky and Alice Bailey claim that the aim of the "Masters" to eliminate "the orthodox Judeo/ Christian faith" is the a continuation of an ancient war between the "White Lodge" (the Hierarchy) and the "Black Lodge" (source of Jewish/Christian teaching). Bailey describes it as "the great struggle between the Lords of Light and the Lords of Material Form, also called the Dark Forces." In spite of the direct intervention of the "Shamballa energy" itself (or Sanat Kumara himself), the Hierarchy was defeated, bringing about the fall of the Atlantean civilization and immanent global destruction. Bailey refers to the final end of Atlantis in a catastrophe which obliterated all traces of the far superior civilization: "This historical event has been preserved for us in the universal legend of the great flood" She confesses, referring specifically to Noah's ark. It is also revealing that the rainbow, the symbol which declared an end to that war, has been commandeered by the losers as a symbol of their return to fight again. But it wasn't that the "Masters" were driven out by their Archenemy; "for the good of humanity, the Hierarchy withdrew into the background, leaving man to find his own way out...."

But Bailey tells us of an outcome which from a New Age viewpoint was an inexplicable mix-up: the "nucleus" rescued from this destruction was not the advanced Atlantean seed, but the inferior seed of the older Jewish race, "salvaged in spite of themselves... by the Great White Lodge", a remnant which today is symbolized by the unworthy Jewish race.

She also notes here that the "present world crisis" (as of 1939, the date of writing) has its source in this ancient conflict which never really ended. Her view of a link between Hitler's war on the Jews and this Cosmic War becomes clearer in other comments by Bailey. The White Lodge is headed by the three-fold energy of the "Logos", locked in battle with "two other energies also struggling for expression". The outcome of this spiritual war is so crucial it "will determine the trend of world affairs." These two Dark Forces are identified as "the forces of materialism", and "the force emanating from that section of humanity which is found in every part of the world and which we call the Jewish people." On many occasions her anti Semitism is visible as evidence of the Lucifer’s hate for the Jewish people.

After the Atlantean destruction, the masters of the White Lodge were forced to withdraw into space and leave earth in control of the Black Lodge. But they saw to it that White Lodge teachings were preserved in Babylon, to be passed down to "guardians of the ancient wisdom" in each generation (collectively called "the White Brotherhood") - Egyptians, Aztecs, Incas, Mayans, Hindus, Buddhists, Chinese (Taoism), American Indians, and assorted enlightened ones who were branded as heretics by "restrictive Judaism and Christianity" . Among the last two, certain groups are identified are also identified as becoming recipients of this ancient wisdom: the Cathars, the Knights Templar (both connected with "Holy Grail" lore), Freemasons (held to have been established by King Solomon in his more "enlightened" years), Gnostics and Kabbalists (Jewish Lurians, and Christian or "Hermetic Qabalists").

While both Black and White Lodges consist of disembodied spirit beings, they each seek partnership with human beings. The Hierarchy who left is now returning (from a spiritual hideout identified by New Agers as "Shamballa") to reclaim their "inner government" on planet earth, which will finally put the 'Black Lodge' out

THE ASCENDED MASTERS OBJECTIVE of business. In short, they plan to launch (or re-open) a religious war-to-end-all-wars, without which the New World Order cannot be fully established. That is why the "worn-out Jewish dispensation", which includes a certain strain of Christianity as an offshoot, is to be outlawed and replaced by the "New World Religion". This will be mandatory and will have to be imposed ("in any way possible") for the good of all.

It is this next round that the Hierarchy hopes to restore their earlier position as Guides grounded on earth a position equivalent to "God" in conventional terminology. The return is to begin with the "reappearance of the Christ" first as a "higher consciousness" in the hearts of men, and then as "overshadowing" in which they hear his voice; in this way, says Bailey, "he will duplicate himself repeatedly", increasing his effectiveness accordingly. Finally, he will be able to "move among men in a public manner." The use of the "Great Invocation" is meant to further this event; in fact, "he cannot proceed with his assigned mission" unless humanity cooperates by using that prayer.

Naturally, it is the "Hierarchy" who will ultimately control world affairs when the "Christ reappears" physically, "leading to the definite restoration of the Mysteries." Their closest assistants on the human plane, according to Foster Bailey, Alice's husband, are the higher-level initiates in freemasonry: "When the Mysteries are restored, and Masonry resumes its true function, the G.M. [Grand Master] will also resume his ancient prerogatives, for he will be chosen for his initiate rank, and that involves initiate knowledge. He will be restored to his ancient status, and his right to authority will be recognized."

New Age philosopher and Masonic leader Manly P. Hall concurs that the Masonic Grand Master is at the final level of human contact with the "spiritual consciousness" that originates in the "spiritual hierarchy".

Alice Bailey also looked forward to a future Masonic Movement which, "when it can be divorced from politics and social ends and from its present paralysing condition of inertia, will meet the need of those who can, and should, wield power."

New Age Religion is based on a blend of practically every religious and occult philosophy found in the world, rejecting only Islam, Torah-based Judaism and early (pre-Constantine, pre-gnostic, Judaic) Christianity. The blend is known as "The Ancient Wisdom" and harmonizes surprisingly well; it is outlined methodically in a 19th-century Western system called "Theosophy".

Following are the spiritual principles by which New Age groups can be identified, no matter which label they give themselves.

1. God is not the Creator (although there is a Creator, or perhaps two, as we will see). The Most High God does not "do" anything, He just is. The very title "God" is a misnomer which limits the concept; Theosophists prefer abstract Principles.

2. The ultimate Divine has no name, no definition, and therefore no accessibility. The Divine has no personality or self-consciousness - hence, no revelation from Him is possible. One might then question the very notion of "theosophy", which means "knowledge of God". The answer is that Theosophy identifies the individual created being as the "god" which needs to be known.

3. He (It) is nothing more than an Energy Force which is everywhere (and nowhere), in everything (and in every non-thing). Everything in the universe is God, and is destined to become God. One might think that the first would eliminate the need for the second, but the former is a universal state of being, while the latter is an individual state of consciousness.

4. This godhood includes people (with or without physical bodies), animals, objects, planets, stars and unseen energies, as well as "Nirvana" or the Great Void - where HPB says "all is absorbed in the spirit of the most Powerful," and individual consciousness and activity cease.

THE ASCENDED MASTERS OBJECTIVE New Age history teaches that the “Masters” or “Hierarchy” appeared descended on earth 18 million years ago, during the Lemurian Age, introducing themselves in both physical and etheric bodies as "Brothers of Light". They made their home in "Shamballa" (when on the spiritual plane) and (on the physical plane) in the Gobi Desert, Shigatse and the Himalayas. They are most often referred to as the "Hierarchy of Ascended Masters", and sometimes as the "Space Brothers" or just the "Brotherhood" - a group of ancient beings, many of whom once started out on our (earthly human) plane, but have now evolved to the level where they are no longer shackled by physical matter and can be considered divine (to be addressed as "great Lord" or "Master").

The flowchart for the Hierarchy is vast and very confusing, but to simplify the picture, Alice Bailey presents the Hierarchy in various geometric figures throughout her work Externalisation of the Hierarchy. Directly under "The One about whom nothing may be said", is a committee of 7 "Cosmic Logi", followed by 7 "Solar Logi", followed by 7 "Heavenly Men". There are also 7 "Rays" of pure energy emanations. The "Heavenly Man" in charge of earth's evolution is called "Sanat Kumara". Although he is presented as several levels down from the top, we have no way to make contact with this being's "colleagues" or "superiors"; Sanat Kumara is therefore considered the Head of the Hierarchy as far as earthlings are concerned.

At the crucial times of new ages, such as the advent of a "subrace", a spirit known as "Maitreya" or "World

Teacher" - the most "highly evolved being" known to man - descends from a hidden high place or "power vortex" (variously identified as the Himalayas or outer space) and "overshadows" a chosen spokesman, who then relays his "transmissions", which are instructions from the Hierarchy to guide the human race into the next cycle of "evolution". Five times previously at a key "transition time" (one for each subrace), Bailey relates (through Djwhal Kuhl) that Maitreya chose Buddha, Hermes, Zoraster, Orpheus, and Jesus as his vehicles. In the early 1900s, it was predicted by Theosophical Society leader Annie Besant that Maitreya would inhabit a physical body this century; a young Hindu named Jiddu Krishnamurti was chosen in the 1920s as the vehicle. Although the "overshadowing" was reported to have taken place for a few moments conveying a message from the "Brotherhood", it failed to become permanent. But the "descent" of Maitreya has been consistently expected by Theosophists and other New Agers since those days.

More recently, Maitreya has chosen the british disciple of Bailey, Benjamin Creme, New Age teacher and the figurehead of World Goodwill and Share International, to occasionally channel his instructions - or so Creme has been claiming since 1981. Creme claims that he has been in constant telepathic contact with "Maitreya the Christ" since the early 70s and that Maitreya finally entered civilized society privately in 1977 when he materialized in human form and took up residence in a suburb of London. Since then Creme has travelled the world, giving lectures and appearing on talk shows, to prepare the world for the public emergence of Maitreya. He also claims that a major American television network has agreed to interview Maitreya at a time of Maitreya's choosing.

THE ASCENDED MASTERS OBJECTIVE “Many now expect the return of their awaited Teacher, whether they call him the Christ, Messiah, the fifth Buddha, Krishna, or the Imam Mahdi. Millions now know that the Teacher who fulfills all these expectations is already living among us.” says Crème.

One major aspect of Creme's mission was the formation of Share International Foundation and the publication of it's monthly self-titled magazine. Each issue contains a brief synopsis of the emergence of Maitreya on the first two pages and then a brief message that has been trance-channeled through Benjamin Creme from an Ascended Master known simply as "The Master" on page three. The spiritual thrust of Share International is clearly obvious in each issue that is published.

Despite this fact, or perhaps because of it, Share International has a long list of prominent, well respected international diplomats, religious leaders and political figures who have had articles published in this magazine. They include articles written by former UN leader Boutros Boutros-Ghali; present leader Kofi Annan; former President of Ireland Mary Robinson; Gro Harlem Brundtland who is director-general of the World Health Organization and former Prime Minister of Norway; the Dalai Lama; and recently even Britain's Prince Charles of Wales.

Even though the average man on the street would most likely dissolve into hysterical laughter upon being presented with the beliefs of Creme and Share International, it is easily shown that this magazine is wellrespected and taken seriously by many influential members of the Global Elite. In fact, Share International Foundation is accredited as an official non-governmental organization (NGO) by the United Nations, and the magazine, as stated on the inside cover of each issue, is published by Share International " in association with the Department of Public Information at the United Nations."

Creme and Share International are both intimately connected with a number of New Age groups including the Freemasons (Creme often lectures in Masonic halls), the Tara Canter of Hollywood, CA, the Theosophical Society, the Lucis Trust (which maintains the official UN "meditation room"), and World Goodwill, an organization created by the Lucis Trust and also recognized by the UN as an official NGO. World Goodwill also actively promotes the appearance of "Maitreya the World Teacher" in their literature and on their website.

New Age messages to the public encourage "faith in the loving Creator" or "thanksgiving to the Lord of Creation", phrased to allow everyone his own interpretation. For themselves, however, the Creator is the head of the Hierarchy, known as Sanat Kumara. He has other titles as well: "Ancient of Days", "Lord of the World", "Youth of Endless Summers" and "The One Initiator" (i.e. the one who initiates mankind to higher evolutionary levels). Bailey calls his "Council Chamber" by the term found in the Jewish book of Psalms, "the secret place of the Most High".40 Sanat Kumara is credited as the "founder and initiator of all the most important movements." Bailey claims41 that both Christians and Jews are actually worshiping him in their attempts to identify "God". This shows her ignorance of Judaism; even while calling him "the Most High",

THE ASCENDED MASTERS OBJECTIVE she place Sanat Kumara far below the Ultimate God on her charts, automatically eliminating from him the central attribute of the G-d of Israel. On the other hand, it shows her intent to deceive, since elsewhere she writes that her "Lord of the World" is "totally otherwise" compared to the Adon Olam of the Jews. Although Sanat Kumara level of enlightenment earned him the right to enter into "Nirvana", he instead made the "supreme sacrifice" of turning back to creation and taking the responsibility to create us into gods. Bailey relates that he "came down" to earth in the middle of the Lemurian age, taking physical form, and although he later returned to the spirit plane, he "has remained with us ever since." As we saw above, Bailey disciple Benjamin Creme makes identical claims for Lucifer, but this is not accidental, as we will see.

THE NEW AGE TRINITY, OR LOGO Sanat Kumara, Maitreya the Christ, and Lucifer are presented to the world as a trinity. Known as the Planetary Logos, they administer 3 spiritual Energies: respectively, [Sanat Kumara] Shamballa, the planetary Head, with the principles of WillPower-Plan; [Maitreya] Hierarchy, the planetary Heart, LoveWisdom-Unity; and [Lucifer] Humanity, the planetary Throat, Intelligence- Self-Conciousness- Creativity. Elsewhere Bailey calls them "The Departmental Heads... three great Beings", using Hindu terms and assigning to them 3 respective spheres of activity: "Manu" (Sanat Kumara - matter, form, body, not-self; relating to governments and races), "Bodhisattva" (Maitreya spirit, life, self; realized in religions and beliefs) and "Mahachohan" (Lucifer - intelligence, mind, soul; expressed in science, civilization and education). Notice that matter is equated with "not-self"; this follows the ancient gnostic idea that the physical must be destroyed to bring forth the true "self".

Bailey affirms that Sanat Kumara's job is indeed to destroy, using the Shamballa energy, to make room for the new. Lucis Trust, the organization dedicated to distributing Bailey's writings, considers the Shamballa force to be "a demonstration of the beneficent will of God", in that it "tends to destroy all forms that hinder the emergence of a new and better world the political field."

WHO IS THE HEAD OF THE LOGOS? According to Bailey, Sanat Kumara is the only one known to man who attained the 7th initiation, placing him at the summit of the Logos pyramid as the one who "alone is self-sufficient". Bailey characterizes him as the incarnation of "one of the 7 spirits before the Throne - the greatest of all Avatars". She also borrows liberally from Christian imagery, even quoting New Testament passages to describe him.

In this passage, she even goes so far as to say that Sanat is "literally the Planetary Logos Himself", and describes the Logos as taking "the form of Sanat Kumara", the other two being "the outcome of the triple nature of the Planetary Logos." these call into question whether Maitreya and Lucifer have a separate identity at all, or are to be considered emanations of Sanat Kumara.

For the sake of comparison when Bailey charts the "three great planetary centers" she lists "Humanity" (Lucifer's domain) as the first "expression of divine livingness", having been manifested "in the first solar system"; chronologically this makes Lucifer the senior partner in the Logos.

Then "Hierarchy" (Maitreya's responsibility) appeared "in the second solar system" (our present era) but is yet to "come into full manifestation upon the physical plane". "Shamballa" (Sanat's rule and "the directing center for the Hierarchy") is not due to manifest until "the next solar system"; however, for reasons unexplained, it is only now that the three "meet simultaneously at various stages of livingness." Even more curious, "it is only through human beings that these centers can ever come into true functioning activity." From this it may be concluded that puny, unascended man is actually in control of the mighty Logos, who is/are

dependent on his invitation and involvement in order to truly function.

However, according to Bailey disciple Benjamin Creme, it is Maitreya who is the only being to have evolved to a 7th degree initiation, as opposed to Buddha (6th) or Jesus (4th/5th). The lines between Maitreya, Sanat and Lucifer are even more blurred in the teachings of Creme, who has urged people to address the New Age messiah as either Maitreya or Sanat Kumara. Since 1997, Creme has further revised his presentation of Maitreya on his websites. Whereas Maitreya was always the name of the spirit speaking through Creme, whom no one was allowed to see "until he chooses to reveal himself", now a photograph of "Maitreya" is displayed, while the "master" now speaking through Creme "has a name known only to an inner circle" and goes by "Master ___" [sic with a blank line], or the "Avatar [manifestation] of Synthesis".

Until recently Maitreya was the highest initiate (7th degree) in the cosmos; Creme now claims that Master ___ is so much higher that his level cannot be revealed; "we wouldn't comprehend it." Creme still speaks of Maitreya, but his relationship to "Master ___" is unclear. Blavatsky is more direct in identifying the head of the Logos: for her it is "Satan". He is "one with the Logos" which is ultimately one force. He also bears the title "Kumara" and is the oldest and highest of the angelic gods.

What is the New Age movement? Is it a conspiracy? What can Christians do about it? In the last ten years the New Age has shifted out of the counterculture into the mainstream of society. Today its effects are felt in almost every aspect of life--medicine, politics, science, psychology and even religion. Fortune 500 corporations routinely send their managers to New Age seminars to expand their minds and increase productivity. --Entertainer Shirley MacLaine has written two best-selling books that chronicle her conversion to the New Age. Doctors and therapists increasingly employ healing techniques that are based on pantheistic principles. Even advertisers on radio and television, in tune with New Age ideas, are telling us that we have unlimited potential. Douglas Groothuis explains how the New Age combines Eastern mysticism with Western optimism and why it has become so popular. His thorough, biblical analysis helps Christians know how to respond to this aggressive movement.

Groothuis is one of the elite Christian scholars in regards to worldview issues, and his treatment of the New Age in this book, while somewhat dated, is outstanding. It engages in a respectful and sober discussion about the influence of the New Age upon our culture, and even within the church. As such, it is likely to make some Christian readers unhappy since it will likely challenge such readers who might be engaging in certain New Age practices to rethink such participation in light of the potent spiritual consequences.

This book attempts to describe New Age influence in public schools, and in the fields of medicine, science, politics, and American spirituality generally. I especially appreciated Groothuis's emphasis early on that he does not subscribe to a 'New Age conspiracy' which lends solid credibility to his approach.

After reading the book, one might come away thinking that indeed such a conspiracy exists, but this is not the conclusion that Groothuis himself appears to subscribe to.

Groothuis's treatment of how the New Age is impacting the fields of science and politics were especially insightful. He properly points out in the field of science that while New Age influences have actually corrected a number of erroneous presuppositions held sacred by many secular humanists and naturalists, this does not compensate for the New Age's abandonment of truth and the resulting chaos it brings to any field of study if consistently followed. Further, Groothuis brilliantly exposes how New Age influences have penetrated the American federal government, with taxpayer money being spent promoting decidedly New Age beliefs and practices. One wonders (though I confess it's no mystery to me) why the more militant church-state separatists haven't been up in arms about such a mixture of taxpayer money and religion, but that's a whole other topic. This sticks out like a sore thumb even more in light of the caveat I discuss below.

Groothuis's treatment of the New Age's contribution to American spirituality (along with its influence in medicine) are likely to be the sections that laypeople might most object to. In these two sections, Groothuis properly goes into some detail in showing how New Age medicinal/spiritual practices are not innocuous or devoid of any spiritual meaning, but in fact promote a spiritual worldview that cannot be harmonized with orthodox Christianity without severely compromising it. A number of these practices are things that all kinds of Christians from the lukewarm to the devout are engaging in today either because they don't know any better, or even worse, because they are not discerning enough to see how these New Age practices are built upon and promote a philosophy that directly contradicts the message of the Bible. Because such practices like yoga, TM, acupuncture, homeopathy, and others have become mainstream even within the church, I strongly recommend this book as an effective countermeasure against the wholesale adoption of these practices by the body of Christ without any discernment.
