Fundamental Architectural Representation Spring 2016
The Cube The first project of the semester, the cube assignment introduced a number of concepts. Through building a 6” x 6” x 6” cube, we explored the creation of space as well as implied space. Additionally, we learned how to think through and draw plans, sections, elevations and axonometrics.

The Carpenter Center Our second project immersed us fully into the architecture world. As a class-and then later as small groups- we traveled to Le Corbusier’s Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts located at Harvard University. For the duration of the project, we sought to understand the building’ s logic and idiosyncrasies by taking measurements and then translating these measurements into several drawings and a model of it’s northeast façade.

The Learning Space
Once we had drawn and modeled the Carpenter Center, we then moved on to designing a learning space in front of the northeast faรงade of the building. This assignment focused on manipulation of the ground, as our site was one large pit in which our design had to be created.

The Museum Plaza
For this project, we focused on changing perspective. We each picked a spot on the grounds of the Christian Science Center then designed a pavilion for the space. The pavilion incorporated multiple apertures that manipulated views of the surrounding area.

The Museum Stairs
Our final project required us to design a museum around two paintings: Saint Luke Drawing a Portrait of the Virgin Mary and The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit. We focused on the introduction of these paintings to the museum goer.
