Alana Rogers ARCH 2130 Chana Haouzi 23 October 2015 Project Description This library is a special space of knowledge – a place where one can escape the rigidity of the city and retreat to an environment that nurtures personal and intellectual growth. To create this space that fosters development, curvilinear forms are extruded, carved, and punctured. These gentle undulations found in the floor, walls, and volumes of spaces conduct the flow of visitors by compression and expansion and by defining areas for specific uses. The rectilinear stairs, designed in a contrasting architectural language, help to heighten one’s consciousness of the curvy forms. Private areas, which are tucked into solid curves, are entered through narrow hallways, while visitors circulate public and open areas by meandering wide curves. The curves that shape the library encourage learning and create a space that attempts to increase the well being of the community.
