Here, we were to design a community fitness center located in Boston’s North End. For my design, I was interested in the idea of active design: how can architecture encourage a healthy, active lifestyle. To accomplish this I introduced a pair of ramps that circle the building, similiar to a running track. One ramp runs exterior to the building, serving as a jogging ramp for the public. The other ramp acts as the building’s main circulation path, running the perimeter of the building. Additionally,my project feeds off an interaction of space, in hopes that the viewing of individuals be active will encourage others to follow their lead and develop a healthy lifestyle.
