150 WINTHROP SQUARE
The Winthrop Square project includes three towers, each accommodates a user group - residential, hospitality, and civic (conference center with co-working offices). In urban context, the towers’ foot print and the cantilevered box geometries correlated to the public movements. The open space on the ground level allows a more active and convenient pedestrian and vehicular sequence from around the block, which further connects various areas of downtown Boston. At the same time, the central dropoff/ parking entrance offers the residences higher quality of arrival experience. The appearance of the glazed boxes relates to the program they each accommodate, the ones insert through the towers are public used space, as the conference center and the public accessible sky pool/restaurant/club. The volumns/binding boxes in-between the two towers are used as amenity spaces for residences. The two taller towers are structured with central cores and columns around the perimeter. And the 420’ tall office tower is supported by a linear core on the west side and four columns on the east side in order to provide larger open spaces for office use. All three towers are enveloped with shape-modified metal panels, which appears a subtle 3-D changes on the exterior wall. The panels function as energy-saving component, shading device.
