Chelsea Waterfront Treatment Wetland This project mainly focused on the Chelsea’s water pollution issue and traced back to the cause and trying to fix this ecological problem and encourage the economic development at the same time. I think the reason why the water in Chelsea river is dirty is because of the overflow. When the stormwater happens, the untreated water from industrial sites in Chelsea flow into the river. It is crucial to improve the water treatment procedure to decrease pollution. However, industrial sites cannot be elimitated from Chelsea in my opinion. Because Industrial is the second important economic source to Chelsea. From my perspective, the best way to solve this problem is creating wetlands along the river so that the water can be filtered by wetlands before they runs into river when stormwater heaapens.The wetlands are specific designed as several pools which are planted different types of aquatic plants as steps for cleaning water. The polluted water goes through those pools each of them takes charge of an part of purification process. and then back to river. On the otehr hand, the wetlands can connect to the original greens in Chelsea to create a “Green system”to make healthier habitat for both living beings and human. The better living enviroment makes the price of land higher than before, the real estate will be flourished by these. In this way. this project balances the ecological issue and economic issue and make them better at the same time.

The 1st step of ecological water treatment. The absorption and accumulation ability is the strongest among those aquatic plants such as Zostera, Hydrilla, Vallisneria, Najadaceae and so on. The wetland is designed with large water surface for those submerged plants to grow.
The 2nd step of ecological water treatment. The absorption and accumulation ability is the second strongest among those aquatic plants such as Typha angustifolia,Phragmites,Cyperus papyrus, and so on. Some of those emergent plants are going to grow as high as people to create a feeling of sheltered. People can just immerse themselves into these greens.
The last step of ecological water treatment. The absorption and accumulation ability is the weakest among those aquatic plants. This pond is going to plant some seasonal plants like lotus and water lily to add beauty. And also includes floating plants like Salvinia natans, Lemna and so on. This section creates a feeling of sea of flowers.
