Mission, Vision, Values
The President’s Annual Report is prepared and published by the Neumann University Office of Institutional Advancement and University Relations in collaboration with other units of the University. The 2015 fiscal year began on July 1, 2014, and ended on June 30, 2015. Gifts received on or after July 1, 2015, will be acknowledged in next year’s annual report. While we work diligently to avoid errors and omissions, please inform the Office of Institutional Advancement and University Relations of any error by calling 610-558-5513. Thank you.
Neumann University’s 50th year was extraordinary. When you read the pages ahead, you’ll understand why. You will see examples of student and alumni achievement in diverse academic disciplines, community service, career accomplishment, and athletic prowess. Knowing that our University has a hand in shaping these young people intellectually, professionally and spiritually inspires me every day.
To build a solid foundation for the University’s affordability during the next five decades, we launched In Giving We Receive, our $10 million 50th Anniversary Campaign, in November and hosted the Sixteenth Annual Scholarship Gala in March. The gala enabled us to provide more than $118,000 for student scholarships.
For half a century, our campus has challenged students to attain excellence in every aspect of their lives. As many colleges do, we provide thoughtprovoking liberal arts instruction and contemporary, pre-professional discipline. We also do much more, emphasizing the ethical, moral and social values that our graduates will embody in their workplaces and communities. For 50 years, we have taught young women and men that knowledge, while valuable in itself, is best used in the service of others.
The many other noteworthy accomplishments in 2014-15, which are highlighted in this annual report, all contributed to a significant 50th anniversary. Neither this year nor the 49 which preceded it, however, would have been possible without the vision, courage and dedication of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia and our Board of Trustees. They and the students we serve are the reason that Neumann University exists and the inspiration for its ongoing success.
Our faculty also exhibited their expertise in a host of ways. Of special note is Dr. Mary Beth Yount, a theology professor, who was on loan to the World Meeting of Families (WMOF) for the entire year. Dr. Yount served as the director of content and programming for the WMOF, supervising the subject matter of a global event that the Catholic Church hosts every three years, culminating in a papal visit

FOR HALF A CENTURY, OUR CAMPUS HAS CHALLENGED STUDENTS TO ATTAIN EXCELLENCE IN EVERY ASPECT OF THEIR LIVES.
National recognition for Neumann came from Money magazine, which named us as one of the 25 most affordable private colleges in America (#12). According to the magazine’s website, “Among the highest-ranked 665 private colleges on our Best College list, earning a degree at these schools typically costs the least.”

The 2014-15 academic year was Neumann University’s 50th, and the flags flying across campus modestly acknowledged the anniversary to members of the University community and to our neighbors who drove past the campus. In reviewing this milestone year on the pages ahead,
you will see some of the extraordinary accomplishments of Neumann’s students, alumni, faculty, and administration. With half a century of history behind us and the talent that took center stage in the last year, there are no limits for the University as we begin our journey to the centennial in 2065.

CAMPAIGN INVESTMENTS
Anniversary Campaign for
ENDOWMENT FUNDS
NeumannUniversity
A substantial endowment helps lessen the University’s dependence on tuition revenue and enables planning for the future. A Neumann education is out of reach for many young people. More than 85 percent of students enrolled at the University have financial need as identified by federal guidelines. During the past decade, Neumann’s endowment funds have allowed us to give more than 100 named scholarships. New endowed scholarship funds can be established.
In Giving We Receive Campaign Chairpersons Mark and Ann Baiada.
In Giving We Receive
“FROM THE MINUTE YOU PARK YOUR CAR, YOU SENSE AND FEEL THE FRANCISCAN MISSION. YOU KNOW YOU ARE IN A SPECIAL PLACE.”
Building on the accomplishments of Neumann’s successful past campaigns, In Giving We Receive, was launched in November 2014, as an ambitious $10 million comprehensive effort to raise funds for endowment, restricted and unrestricted funds, and capital projects –all aimed at helping our students succeed. Gifts to the Campaign will help Neumann leverage $2.5 million in additional funding through matching RACP (Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program) funds, reflecting the University’s tradition of wisely managed resources in anticipation of an expansive future.
8
THE NEUMANN FUND
Every year, Neumann offers students a rich landscape of possibilities, helping them raise their sights about their promising lives while they receive an outstanding education. Many have already reached new heights as the first in their families to pursue a college degree. Ann and J. Mark Baiada, campaign co-chairpersons, underscore the importance of this campaign. “We believe in the character building that is accomplished in a values-based, Catholic education. We admire so much the Franciscan identity that permeates Neumann’s campus. From the minute you park your car, you sense and feel the Franciscan mission. You know you are in a special place. We believe in helping these students—many of whom are the first in their families to attend college— as we were.”
This University fund includes unrestricted and restricted gifts to the Annual Fund, Scholarship Fund and Athletic Fund. Gifts to the Neumann Fund allow the flexibility to provide resources to a variety of short-, mid- and long-term strategic University initiatives.
CAPITAL PROJECTS
University Library Phase II Renovation
Thomas A. Bruder, Jr. Life Center Expansion
Built in 1965, the University library was in need of being transformed to a contemporary space to serve the educational needs of students and the community. Now a powerful learning commons, the library is a dynamic environment filled with state-of-the-art technology and flexible educational spaces. The Library renovations were completed in August 2014 and the new spaces are available for naming opportunities.
With campaign funds, the now 31,683 square-foot, Bruder Life Center, which occupies a central campus location, will be transformed with the addition of 12,000 square feet of multifunctional student space including: • • • •
A new lobby/ welcome area A new television studio and radio station for NeuMedia Presentational space Enhancements to technology, lighting and the environmental infrastructure
Both capital projects have received matching challenge grant authorization representing funding reimbursement through RACP and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, matching dollar for dollar $2.5 million in gifts.

Scholarships Establishing a scholarship at Neumann University is the best way to help academically qualified students who would otherwise not be able to afford a private education and experience Catholic education in the Franciscan tradition.
Guardian Angel Society Neumann remains committed to helping students, traditional and adult, achieve their educational goals by securing support for endowed and restricted scholarship funds.
Neumann University is grateful to all those individuals who have made a planned gift to the University.
While a number of scholarships are provided through the generous support of foundations, many of the University’s endowed scholarships (minimum contributions of $25,000) have been created by individuals who wish to perpetuate the legacy of a loved one with private funds.
The Guardian Angel Society was established to recognize the University’s friends and benefactors who have made commitments to its future through bequests, charitable trusts, gift annuities, and other planned giving opportunities. They are helping to provide vital resources to meet the educational goals of future generations. A Guardian Angel Society certificate is presented to any individual who makes a planned gift to the University. Donors whose gifts are irrevocable are listed on the University Guardian Angel Society Plaque.
