I am a long-term resident of Vernon County, a Marine Corps Reserve Veteran, a local business owner, and a police officer. Throughout my 26 years of experience in Law Enforcement, I have worked for the Nevada Police Dept, Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, and am currently employed part-time at the City of Pittsburg, KS. After being honorably discharged from Marine Corps Reserves in 1993, I moved to Nevada to work in the family plumbing/excavation business. A few years later, I earned my Master Plumber’s license and started my own business. My wife, Cindy (Mason) Dye, grew up in Nevada. We have raised our five children in Vernon County and enjoy spending time with our grandchildren. My father-in-law, Mickey Mason, spent well over 3 decades serving SW Missouri as a Missouri State Highway Patrolman before serving as Vernon County Sheriff in the late 90's. It was then that my desire to be in law enforcement truly came to light. Mickey inspired many folks in this community and gave me the encouragement needed to begin my career. With the desire to serve my community, I became P.O.S.T. certified in 1998 and began with the Nevada Police Department. Within the first year, I became the Field Training Officer and trained new officers. Over the next 10 years, I was promoted to supervisory positions in the Patrol and Detective Divisions and then became Captain of Operations. In 2008, I changed agencies and began working as a Road Deputy Supervisor, under Vernon County Sheriff Ron Peckman, as well as the Maintenance Supervisor for the Nevada Housing Authority. A couple of years later, I returned to the Nevada Police Department as a Patrol Officer and worked back through the ranks to Assistant Chief, until retiring from Nevada in 2021. I then became certified in Kansas and began working full-time for the City of Pittsburg as a Police Officer. Due to family illnesses, I have cut back to part-time to run family plumbing and rental businesses. Throughout my law enforcement career, I have been trained in all aspects to be an effective leader.
There is so much more to being in law enforcement than simply writing speeding tickets and chasing "bad guys". The influence on future generations and the continuous involvement, improvement, and encouragement in our community are what drives my passion for this office. My candidacy has provided me an opportunity to continue serving in our community. If chosen to be your next Vernon County Sheriff, I will utilize my training, experience, and strong work ethic to provide leadership to personnel under my supervision and to provide professional law enforcement to our community.
