BUNKHOUSE SALOON FALL PERFORMANCES ROCK RENOVATED VENUE.

The Bunkhouse Saloon has its fall music schedule, with Washed Out, Mike Doughty, Leopold and his Fiction, Big Data, Blonde Redhead, and many more bands and performances set for the venue. These performances join previously announced bands Built to Spill, The Breeders, Bob Mould, Allen Stone, and RJD2 on The Bunkhouse Saloon’s fall lineup. Established in 1953, The Bunkhouse Saloon earned a reputation over past decades as one of Las Vegas’ best places to see both established and emerging bands. Renovations to Bunkhouse Saloon included installation of a new ceiling and exterior wall, as well as extending the length of the building to accommodate a new top of the line kitchen, a new stage, and a state-of-the-art Meyer sound system.

RISE LANTERN FESTIVAL LIGHT UP THE SKY IN SOUTHERN NEVADA.

PLAN YOUR TRIP

It’s a centuries-old idea that’s both simple and powerful. Thousands of lanterns, each repRiSE Lantern Festival resenting a hope, a dream, a new leaf, or a forgotten wish coming together to form something Jean Dry Lake beautiful. On Oct. 18, RiSE Lantern Festival is bringing the experience to the Mojave Desert near Oct. 18 Las Vegas. risefestival.com, 775-997-9444 Attendees’ assigned seating area includes an individual bamboo ground mat, two sky lanterns, and one ground lantern. During the first hour, guests have the chance to write personalized messages on each lantern while listening to live music, relaxing, and enjoying great food and wine available for purchase. An hour after sunset, RiSE culminates as everyone lights and releases their lanterns in unison. RiSE’s responsibility to leave no trace is taken seriously. The wide-open nature of the event area makes conservation possible. Because they’re able to retrieve between 98-100% of the lanterns, and because each lantern is 100% biodegradable, sustainability is something they achieve with every event. Additionally, RiSE purchases carbon offsets for every vehicle they use in the setup and cleanup of the festival, and they encourage participants to purchase carbon offsets for their travel to and from the festival. 16

FALL FARM FESTIVAL

SESQUICENTENNIAL-THEMED CORN MAZE AMONG FALL ATTRACTIONS.

The Lazy P Adventure Farm is hosting the second annual Fall Farm Festival, held weekends from Oct. 4 to Nov. 1. The festival includes a petting zoo, bounce house, cow train, corn cannon, face painting, pedal bikes, wagon rides, great food, and a pumpkin patch. Traversing the design takes between 45 and 90 minutes; and for truly adventurous fun seekers, the maze can also be explored after dark. A mini-maze for small children is also available, and takes about 15 minutes. Every attraction is designed to provide a lesson, including lessons in fright from the Fall Farm Festival’s shockingly frightening Farmer’s Harvest-Barn of Terror. “This is not for the faint of heart,” says co-owner of Lazy P Adventure Farm Kim Petersen. “If you really want to land smack dab in the middle of the Halloween spirit, be our guest, PLAN YOUR TRIP because you are seriously going to scream.” Fall Farm Festival The Barn of Terror is open every Saturday night in October plus Friday, Oct. 31, and SaturLazy P Adventure Farm, Winnemucca day, Nov. 1. REDRUN II

CAN YOU OUTRUN THE LIVING DEAD IN VIRGINIA CITY? The dead are brought to life for Redrun II—an authentic themed race that has participants running from zombies and living dead. The zombie sequel takes place in Virginia City on Oct. 11. Now in its second year, the Redrun course covers six miles with a series of six chilling dead zones and six dangerously enhanced obstacles. “The feedback from the runners following last year’s inaugural race exceeded our expectations,” Jess Horning, partner and co-founder of Redrun, says. “Anyone that has heard the ghost stories of Virginia City or has seen a past episode of ‘Ghost Hunters,’ knows that this place has an eerie nature about itself.” The course guides runners through some of the most infamous landmarks in the historic mining town filled with haunting tales. Runners fight off hungry zombies through century-old tunnels, a train graveyard, and the center of town. It’s not just zombies the runners must be afraid of; dodging the living insane keeps racers on their toes and moving along the course. Following the race, the Zombie Manifestival—an after party that makes the zombies rise from the dead—includes live music, the Redrum Bar Crawl, and the Coors Light graveyard for fresh libations. Participants can join the event in four ways: runner, living insane, living dead, or the resistance.

THE PHOTOGRAPHY OF JERRY FENWICK RENO RESIDENT DISPLAYS ARTWORK AT NEVADA HISTORICAL SOCIETY.

Sitting on a wooden stool more than 60 years ago, award-winning Reno photographer Jerry Fenwick watched his father navigate his darkroom, which was dug by hand under his family’s California home. The elder Fenwick developed film and made prints, teaching his son a love of history and photography at the same time. A Reno resident for more than 60 years, Fenwick is nationally recognized and considered one of Washoe County’s most accomplished and respected photographers. He grew up in the family’s downtown art business, developing his craft and learning to restore, collect, and protect the images of his community’s past. His latest exhibition of nature photos depicting local birds, animals, and flowers is a gift to the community. On display at the Nevada Historical Society through Sept. 27, the collection is set to be sold, with all proceeds donated to the Society for continuing programs. Austin, Nevada. Take a taste at “Prospectors Dream Wine Walk”

Plan a trip to Austin on September 13th, 2014 for our annual Prospectors Dream Wine Walk. This is truly a unique experience where wine lovers can enjoy both a sip of wine and a taste of our town. The walk begins at 2:00 PM at the Austin Museum and continues on to several locations along our historic Main Street. A hay wagon will pick everyone up at 5:00 and take them to Stokes Castle for a sunset dinner. Following dinner, we’ll make a toast with special souvenir wine glasses, then ride back to town. It’s time to take a taste of Austin! Tickets are available at the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce office for $30.00 and includes the wine walk and dinner. For sunset dinner only, the cost is $10.00.

DMV PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST THE SEARCH IS ON FOR NEVADA PLATES IN NEVADA LOCATIONS. The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles is sponsoring a photography contest and the winner will receive a piece of Nevada history—the license plate that marks Nevada’s 150th anniversary. Nevada was admitted to the Union on Oct. 31, 1864. The one-of-a-kind Nevada sesquicentennial license plate number “NV 0150” will be awarded to one lucky winner on Thursday, Oct. 30, the day before Nevada Day, 2014. To enter the contest, snap a photo of any Nevada license plate in a Nevada location and email it to the DMV. The agency will feature weekly finalists on the DMV Facebook page and other social media outlets. There are more than 8,000 sesquicentennial license plates currently registered on Nevada vehicles since its release in July 2013. dmvnv.com/contest

NEVADA 150 BELT BUCKLES COMMEMORATIVE SESQUICENTENNIAL COLLECTORS’ ITEMS ARE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE. State Senator James Settlemeyer and the Nevada 150 Commission joined Crumrine Gold & Silversmiths, a Nevada based belt buckle craftsman, to create limited edition sesquicentennial belt buckles. The pieces are $100 each and all proceeds go toward the Nevada 150 Foundation. The belt buckles are handcrafted with historical jewelers bronze. This highly valuable metal is 85 percent copper and 15 percent zinc, resembling a 14-Karat gold finish. Each individual buckle comes with a specialized unit number. The distinct identification will make the pieces rare collectors’ items. Only a limited number of buckles will be manufactured for the sesquicentennial. The buckles are available in the Legislative Gift Shop located at 401 S. Carson Street, Carson City, and at other Nevada 150 events around the state. nevada150.org, 775-687-0608
