About us We are glad to welcome You and represent our new booklet. Artistic Paints Plant “Nevskaya palitra” has been producing the high quality products for professional artists and amateurs for 80 years. The factory was found in 1934 and started as a small varnish-andpaint factory which was built by the English production engineer Julius Fridlender in 1900 on the embankment of the river Chernaya. The company represents the following product types: watercolors, oil, tempera, gouache, acrylic colours, and products for the artistic work. The trade mark “the red palette” always existing on all of our products. Materials of the Nevskya palitra are used for restoration works in such museums and monuments as the Hermitage, the State Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Church of Christ the Savior, St. Basil Cathedral, the Grand Kremlin Palace and many other monuments. Our permanent buyers are masters of unique folk Handicrafts of Palekh, Mstera, Kholui, Zhostovo, Pavlov Posad, many of icon painting workshops and churches. The plant “Nevskaya palitra” takes active part in social life, supports the professional education in art and children’s creativity, and organizes different events to develop the art industry. Our products are exported to the European countries, the USA and other countries.

PIGMENTS

Pigments can make a real miracle with colors of the paints. The composition of any colour includes coloring matter - pigment and binder. Pigment is the form of fine ground definite color powder with particles of specified sizes (specific for every pigment). The most pigments are universal and can be applied for various types of colours, such as watercolors, gouache and etc. with the difference defined by the compatibility with the applied binder. Pigments can be divided into two large groups: mineral (inorganic) and organic. JSC “APP�Nevskaya palitra� is the unique factory, because we organize the full producing process: from searching the raw materials to making products done.

Watercolours produced by JSC “APP “Nevskaya palitra” are very famous and well known all over the world. Watercolours are fine suspensions of high-quality pigments, their combinations with fillers in the binder comprising aqueous solution of vegetable adhesives (gum arabic, dextrin) with plasticizer, surfactants and antiseptics addition. They are used for painting, drawing and architectural designs. Fine ground pigment with binder provides the covering ability increased, high transparency in saturation tone and clarity that allows applying the much thinner painting layer on the surface than using oil paints or tempera. We represent the following lines of watercolours: “White Nights”, “Ladoga”, “Sonnet”. We keep the traditional production receipts but don’t forget to apply modern technology. Nowadays watercolour palette for painting consists of 56 colors.

OIL COLOURS
Oil and pentaoil colours are fine suspensions of inorganic and organic pigments and fillers in the binder containing natural resins, wax and other substances. Oil colours are produced on base of specially linseed oils, which positive qualities have been known well for ages. Specific properties of colours are good pasting power, absence of difference between paint color and covering color and also fastness. After drying there is a thin layer forming up rather fast and insoluble in water and organic diluents. Series of oil colours represent a wide range of different properties colors, such as permanent, opaque, transparent with medium and high lightfastness.

TEMPERA COLOURS
Artistic polyvinylacetate tempera colours are made of the high quality organic and inorganic pigments and polyvinylacetate dispersion. Artistic tempera colours are the traditional material for painting, and also for decorative and design works. Colours are easily applied onto paper, cardboard, wood or canvas. After drying this type of colors forms up an elastic, non-transparent and indelible coating. You can make the clear brush marks or thin graphical touches of the painting using tempera water diluted colours. The process of working with these colours requires an artist to have some specific skills, because there could be difference in tone after drying.

ACRYLIC COLOURS
Acrylic artistic colours apply to artistic, decorative and design works. Due to the ease in operation, versatility and excellent adhesion the colours can be used for painting on different surfaces, such as paper, cardboard, primed canvas, wood, metal, leather, cement and others. Gouache colours consist of fine ground pigment, gum arabic and dextrin as film-forming substances, glycerin, and others. Gouache is traditionally high-quality colours with case design, after drying it gets the following properties: permanent, opaque, dense, matte velvet effect. Gouaches are used for painting and graphics of posters, sketches (including book illustration) and other paintings, especially for decorative works.

Oils, varnishes, diluents and other special additions represent the auxiliary materials for artists works. They widen the opportunities for artists and help to use artistic colours more effectively. Oils are film-forming substance in structure of oil colours, and also they are part of some kinds of diluents. Varnishes represent solutions of natural or synthetic resins in structure of diluents, which are more often used in painting. Oil diluents represent the group of materials, using of which requires special knowledge. And also they can be used for auxiliary needs, such as washing brushes, palettes and etc. The texture pastes are produced on water basis and intended for making axonometric details. After drying, paste forms up the strong, permanent relief surface that can be painted with acrylic, tempera, gouache or oil colours.

OILS, VARNISHES, DILUENTS AND TEXTURE PASTES Dammar varnish Varnish is used for diluting oil and alkyd paints, for covering the finished paintings.Chemical composition: dammar resin solution in pinene or turpentine. Properties: varnish film has a reversible character, may be easily diluted in solvent after drying.
