Gradel Quadrangles
The Inspiration
The mature garden trees that lend the site its suburban character became the starting point for the project.
Three main buildings, Main Quad, New Warham House and the Porters’ Lodge, weave their way around them as well as the preserved buildings, Savile House, New College School and 1 Savile Road; the latter building is Grade II listed. In doing so, Gradel Quadrangles has created three south-sided garden quadrangles and Oxford’s first curved ‘quadrangle’.
The building is faced in Ancaster Weatherbed Limestone, with bands of Stoneraise Red Sandstone, creating a sense of place that is essentially collegiate but, in its treatment and patterning, it is very much without precedent.
Intrinsic to the inspiration of the building was that it should feel part of the main College, should have a guarantee of long-term durability and be something more than just a hall of residence.
Welcome to Gradel Quadrangles
Despite its name, New College is one of the oldest of the Oxford colleges, founded in 1379 by William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester. It is one of the largest and best-known colleges, and undeniably one of the most beautiful.
In 2024, New College opened its newest site, Gradel Quadrangles, a 94-bedroomed selfcontained facility that not only provides breathtaking accommodation, but also a variety of flexible meeting and event spaces.
Central Location
Situated near the Radcliffe Camera and Bodleian Library in the very heart of the city, New College offers access to both sides of Oxford - the old, historic, beautiful buildings which make up the University (to which New College’s architecture certainly contributes), and the city centre’s lively restaurants, bars and attractions.
Gradel Quadrangle is situated on Mansfield Road, Oxford, OX1 3TZ.

Accommodation
Gradel Quadrangles offers 94 en suite bedrooms.
As the buildings are highly varied, and due to the curvaceousness of the design, each bedroom is distinctive.
The bedrooms offer underfloor heating, bespoke furniture, integrated LED lighting within the majority of headboards. From a practical level, a large fridge is built into the wardrobe that features a full length mirror and ample hanging space. In addition, all bedrooms have their own Wi-Fi router.
Laundry facilities are also available onsite.
All but 9 bedrooms are accessible by lift.
Receptions
We can provide a first-class reception during your event onsite at Gradel Quadrangles, whether that be morning teas and coffees or a fizz reception with canapes.
Dining at our Main Site
At New College, we pride ourselves on delicious and imaginative seasonal menus combined with friendly service.
Seating 204, our impressive 14th century medieval Dining Hall is undoubtedly amongst the most beautiful in Oxford and offers a truly unique dining experience.
Smaller dining rooms, such as the Founder’s Library and Undercroft offer an intimate, but traditional, formal dining setting for groups of 25-60.
We offer a variety of menus and wines for conferences and private dining to ensure that we can suit both your taste and your budget.
We aim to source our produce locally and ethically, whilst catering for any dietary requirements.
Our experienced team of in-house chefs provide your event with outstanding cuisine and our Hall Manager and catering team will ensure you have the best possible service in a professional and courteous manner.

We have an extensive collection of flexible, comfortable meeting rooms and offer facilities for hybrid meetings.

Main Quad
The Music Recital Hall and Gallery
The Recital Hall, that seats upto 105, has a large multi touch high resolution display providing, via wired HDMI cable, an easy solution to give local presentations. There is no hybrid capability in this system.
Student Study Space
This is flexible space that allows for a variety of layouts to suit your event’s needs.
1 Savile Road
Within 1 Savile Road, there are three conference rooms with a capacity of 6-12 in boardroom style. These conference rooms are fitted with high resolution multi-touch displays. Attached to these are systems that provide wireless local presentation capability from any device, including some mobile devices, for clear video and audio. These rooms are able to host hybrid meetings, wireless again, using state of the art noise cancelling/filtering systems to provide the remote attendee with clear audio.
AV support can be arranged upon request.
