The Denver Auto Show By Michael Beckerman
The 2012 Denver Auto Show opened its doors to the public on Wednesday, the 21st of March at the Convention Center and, needless to say, the new crop of next generation vehicles did not disappoint. With nearly all the major manufacturers from around the world showing off their latest innovations in both style and engineering, no matter what your taste, you were sure to find something to fall absolutely head-over-heels in love with at this event. From impossibly luxurious Cadillac sedans to an incredibly efficient all-electric new Ford Focus, the 2012 Denver Auto Show clearly had something for everyone. As someone that has been to many big Auto Shows over the years, both in Denver and Detroit, this is the first one that I can recall attending where I can honestly say, absolutely every single vendor, with every single model, really did bring their A-game. There was not a single disappointing vehicle to be found anywhere on the show floor this year, in any booth, from any vendor. Absolutely every vehicle at the show solidly impressed, at one level or another.
But just like with anything in life, there are winners and losers. So that means that one vehicle had to stand out from the rest and earn the title of “Best in Show.” This year’s winner of that title was in a class entirely by itself, and really didn’t have any competition at the show to speak of at all…not even from its own company: the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. At first glance, the cutting edge styling of the Aventador brings to mind not a car at all, but a weapon…a US Air Force military weapon to be exact: the F-117A Stealth Fighter. That formerly Top Secret, classified jet fighter is literally the best comparison to make when trying to put this car into some type of recognizable category. The only other thing that would even come close to describing the advanced styling on it would be to say that it appears to bear at least some degree of resemblance to the Batmobile seen in the newer Batman films of the past several years. What’s it like to drive? I can’t tell you that as I wasn’t quite lucky enough to get to drive it, but I did get to sit in it on the show floor. What I can tell you about that experience is this: the Avantador is as much a car that you wear as it is a car
that you drive. Sitting in the driver’s seat immediately evokes a feeling of being in a fighter plane cockpit. There’s no fluff in this car at all. Every inch of the vehicle is wrapped very tightly around you. It’s a much snugger fit than other Lamborghini’s that I have sat in the past. Note here that if you are much over 5’10” or have any issues with claustrophobia, you will never be comfortable driving this car. As finely appointed as the all leather and carbon fiber interior is, this is not really a car that you actually want to be comfortable in anyways. The Aventador is the kind of car that just by its very nature brings out your aggressive side and instantly gives you a bad attitude, if you did not already have one to begin with. This is the kind of vehicle, more so than any other vehicle I have ever seen or experienced before, that just by being in its presence makes you want to go out and do all kinds of really bad things. This car has a nearly mystical ability to bring
out the dark side of your personality when you are near it. It’s almost like you can hear this Lamborghini whispering to your subconscious “Get in, turn the key and let’s go beat the living shit out of absolutely everything else on the road!” At well over a quarter million dollars, this car certainly is not for everyone, but for those that can afford it, it will unquestionably do things for them, and to them, that no other car throughout all of automotive history has ever done before. Bad things. Mean things. Wonderful things. How do I know? Because there is lots of other incredibly powerful, hand-made exotic sports cars out there from companies like Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus, McLaren, and Pagani that can affect your mind and bring out your aggressive side, giving you the urge to cross the line and break the rules. This Lamborghini is different though. Those other cars will inspire you to go out and pick a fight. The Aventador will inspire you to go out and declare war.
Besties with Testies: Raising Awareness for Testicular Cancer By: Ashley Cooke
Besties with Testies is a non-profit organization that was created to raise awareness for testicular cancer. With a huge goal of having no deaths in the United States from testicular cancer, Besties with Testies is all about getting the word out to men everywhere about the importance of self-examination. The organization started in 2010 because a good friend and brother of ours, Sean McCarthy, was diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age of 22. He has since gone through chemotherapy and his cancer is thankfully in remission. It took our friend over one month from the time he first noticed symptoms of his cancer until he decided to see a doctor. This is why it is so important for Besties with Testies to get the information out to young men because it is the most common cancer in men ages 15-35. Throughout Sean’s journey we noticed a major problem; most men do not expect to have cancer at such a young age, so they are not self checking or looking for the symptoms. When men do see them they typically don’t know that they are cancer symptoms. Additionally, many men are embarrassed to bring up these symptoms with family or doctors. Early detection of testicular cancer is very important. If caught in the first stage, it is over 99% curable. That is why our goal of zero deaths is
very possible! Men just need to know about it. Besties with Testies started out as an idea that a group of good friends came up with and decided to run with it. It became something so much bigger with a goal to save many lives. We took something very serious and designed an awareness product line that is catchy. This gives plenty of opportunity for those sporting the awareness products to make what was once an embarrassing stigma into an easy and educational conversation about the facts and truths of testicular cancer. There are many ways that you can join the movement to stop death from testicular cancer. You can donate to our cause to help us educate more men, purchase our awareness products, and also encourage your friends to “like” our Facebook page at facebook.com/bestieswithtesties and follow us on twitter at bwt_official. To be even more involved, we are always looking for people to join our street teams, and sell wristbands to your friends and family, which is also a great way to educate. Most important, you can remember to check yourself and remind all the men in your life to do the same. For information on how to self-check, please visit our website at http://www.bestieswithtesties.org/educate-yourself/self-exam/. be your own, remember
to self-exam once a month.

Patrick Gallagher Talks Cigars Spring is here and with it comes weddings, bar-bques, picnics, and “get togethers” in the park. it is time to enjoy the Colorado outdoors. What better way to celebrate these events and moments than with a cigar. The Vega Fina Robusto, beautifully hand crafted in Nicaragua, is a nice mild to medium cigar for novices and aficionada alike to enjoy. This particular cigar comes from Altadis, the same folks that create Monte Cristo, Romeo y Julieta, and Don Diego. The Vega Fina is a treat, as it is one of the most sought cigars in Europe. The initial pre-light taste is sweet, woodsy, with an underlying aroma. I am picking up a sweet barnyard aroma as well. This 5” x 50 robusto is wrapped with a silky smooth Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf. The beautiful tawny wrapper is slightly veiny and tightly wrapped around a blend of Colombian, Dominican, and Honduran tobaccos. The blend is bound by an Indonesian TBN (tobaco bawah naungan, or tobacco beneath the sheet, which means shade grown). I can tell this cigar is well constructed by its firmness and density as I clip the cap. A cigar this size is going to require roughly 1 hour to finish. However, this is time well spent. As I toast the foot of the cigar, a slight peppery nuance tickles my tongue. The room note is spicy and sweet: it reminds of the grills at the park. The cigar remains firm. As my smoke develops, the peppery notes no longer linger as creaminess now appears. Through the first third of the cigar, the smoke provides a sweet and slightly nutty flavor. The burn is tight, sharp, and complex.
Working into the second third of the cigar, it begins revealing notes of sweet creaminess, nougat, and nuances of black pepper, subtle earth tones, and dulce de leche. The strength of the cigar remains steady at a mild to medium intensity. This is a great pre-meal cigar or for hot weather. Its complexity and flavor continues to develop further. The Vega Fina is producing a hearty, airy smoke with a sweet bouquet pleasant to the nose. Entering the final third of the cigar, I notice it has loosened up a bit. This is a tell tale sign of a well-constructed cigar. The smoke remains light and playful. Creamy vanilla and a slight hazelnut are revealed to the pallet at this point. The burn remains tight and there is no need for corrective torching. A cigar such as this is easily enjoyed until the very end. This is an excellent pre-meal or early morning smoke. It is not too heavy or strong to be enjoyed by a novice, but it also contains the complexity a true aficionado can appreciate. I feel an appropriate meal pairing might include pork chops with apple cinnamon demy glaze or a bbq poultry dish with freshly grilled veggies. To wash the palate I suggest a buttery moscato or even a doughy yeast champagne (mimosas for those of you enjoying this one at brunch). The Vega Fina was a magnificent treat that I would recommend to any and all cigar smokers. And at about $5 a stick, I suggest you bring a couple for your friends. Stay lit Colorado!!

Spring Trends on a Budget By Krissy Lusardi
If you have not noticed yet, color is a major trend for spring 2012. Color explodes throughout all elements of the fashion industry: denim to shoes, to tees to accessories. Brights are the go-to trend for the next few months, so get ready for some pizzazz that won’t break the bank! Since trends are usually short lived, there is no need to shell out loads of money on the must-have bright color palette of the season. Here is a guide to sweet steals under $50. After you save some money, go buy yourself a nice cold one. These mint green shorts are a steal, priced at $29.95 from H & M. Great for going out on a boat or just a stroll in the park, you can’t go wrong. Pair with a white shirt and simple shoes and let the pants do the talking.
For those cooler spring days, opt for a pair of bright chinos. A great alternative to jeans, they are super soft and a bit on the dressier side. Perfect for a first date or a night out with the guys, you will be the center of attention for sure.
Most guys would live in a hoodie if they could, well why not wear one that is brightly colored? Stripes are also trending for spring, so combine the two and this is the result. An ultra soft sweatshirt that you won’t ever want to take off, but please do and don’t forget to wash it too! (Editor’s note: dirty is not that trendy right now FYI)
Also, trending right now are super low v neck tees. Luckily, American Apparel has 30 different colors to choose from and they are only $24 so you can afford to buy a few bright colored tees to rock. This cobalt blue tee matches perfectly with the sweatshirt. Throw on some white jeans and you have a perfectly casual, yet fashionable and inexpensive outfit. The best of both worlds! Perfect for rainy days, throw on this short vest and go on your way. No need to worry about wearing a jacket with a hood or carrying around a pesky umbrella that you’ll most likely forget riding public transportation. Not only does it follow along the lines of the Brights trend, it is Marni for H&M, one of H & M’s latest designer collaboration. A must have for spring!
Last but not least, cannot forget about protecting your peepers! Rounded frames and aviators are trending for spring and summer 2012. Check out these cool duds from Urban Outfitters that will save you some serious dough, keeping some of that green in your wallet. Not a fan of the round frame look? Rather than shelling out $155 for Ray-Ban’s version, try these folding Wayfarer sunglasses for only $18. I don’t know why it took them so long to come out with these things, but I think it is the best idea since sliced bread! Simply fold and slip into pocket for safe keepings. You no longer have to worry about misplacing your beloved sunglasses ever again!
Shod your feet! Cameron Cowan’s Advise on Men’s Fashion Shoes for men have changed significantly in the last 50 years. Gone are the days of eyelets and tall boots. Sneakers have become common-place and fashionable; dress shoes have become everyday and wingtips now come in platforms for men and women. What we put on our feet continues to be important in the 21st century, even as styles change. There are guys now that have as many, if not more, shoes than women in various styles, colors, and uses. Shoes or “kicks” are very important to modern male fashion. So I thought it was time for me to “drop some wisdom” on the subject of footwear. There are some shoes that every man needs to keep in his wardrobe at all times. Keeping these shoes around will ensure that any man will have the right shoe for the right occasion. Dress shoes Every man needs a good pair of shiny dress shoes for weddings, formal dinners, etc. You won’t wear them too often unless you’re in a certain income bracket or hang out with people who are, but they are some of the most important shoes you’ll wear. Trainers I know you like to work-out and do things that keep your body tight. The right kinds of trainers are abso-
lutely necessary to keep from foot injury while running/ exercising. You want something that is comfortable, supports the arch and natural contour of your foot, and really moves with you. If you are a diehard runner, you will want to replace these shoes every year. For those who lift and do other general gym activity, every two years is ideal. Whether you are a basic leather shoe man or a lace-up sneaker guy, the everyday shoe has to be appropriate for what you are doing. This is the shoe you wear to concerts; take your dog on a walk in the park in, and other mundane activities. If your work is casual, you might wear this shoe there depending on your situation. If you’re hitting the bar for the game, grab this shoe. Dressy-casual This is the most important shoe to have because it’s great for work if your office is a bit dressy; it’s perfect for parties and meeting your girlfriend’s family and not looking like you’re still in college. If the occasion is not dress shoe worthy but isn’t sneaker conditions either this is your go-to shoe. Boots There are two kinds of boot that every man needs to have in his closet: a work boot, for shoveling driveways and doing other manly activities, and the dress boot. Not only will the 1 inch heel make you a slight bit taller, it will improve your posture by pushing your chest out and making you suck in your stomach a bit.
Cleaning and Storage
Keeping proper care of your shoes is also very important. You will need a reliable shoe shine/cleaning kit. For your sneakers and such, you’ll want sneaker soap. It’s available anywhere from Wal-Mart to Zumiez. If you don’t want to go that far, then you can also use laundry detergent and warm water. For your dress shoes, you need shoe polish in the color of the show (brown, black, red, white etc.) a good rag and a brush. For suede shoes you’ll need specific suede cleaner that is available everywhere. Good shoes should last a long time and they will look great and continue to provide great wear if you simply take care of them. As you can see, shoe care is very important and you will find that your favorite shoes will last longer with the proper care and your feet will be looking great well into the future with some helpful shoe advice. One more thing, the New Culture Girls tell me that they always look at a man’s shoe first. Just a thought next time you’re talking to a nice girl.
Misfits, Outfits… and Outlaws. By Michael Beckerman
Outlaw Models:
Kristiana, Poison, Tendra, Rochelle, Audrey, Jasmine, Vanessa
At first glance, you would not look at Michael Polemi, with his biker tattoos, tall muscular frame, and long pony tail, and immediately think fashion line owner. Much to even his surprise, that’s exactly what he is: the owner of Colorado based street wear company Outlaw Clothing Ink. If you told Michael seven years ago, while he was operating the hardware stores that he owned with his brother, that he would be the owner of a successful, edgy, fast growing street wear clothing company today, with sales to customers all over the world, he never would have believed you. However, life always happens to you while you are busy making other plans. As an avid fan of the tattoo lifestyle, Michael would often attend various tattoo shows and conventions around the country with his wife, Jerri Jackson. While attending a series of shows in California several years back with their good friend and tattoo artist, Mr. Scary, Michael and Jerri were presented with an opportunity to design, print, and sell a line of promotional T-shirts for the show series. Seeing this as a good opportunity to engage in a small entrepreneurial venture, they decided to enlist Mr. Scary’s artistic design skills and made a go of it. Although that first small foray into fashion design did not exactly launch Michael’s career as a fashion line
owner in and of itself, it did set him in motion down a path and gave him a taste for edgy fashions and creative street wear designs. Michael’s first experience with creating T-shirts for tattoo shows was a little bit of a rough go, and he didn’t want to rush right out and immediately become a clothing company owner, but it did spark his creative side. He started thinking about different ways that he could engage with those in the tattoo lifestyle, to bring creative new products to market. He was not certain which ones to develop or how to go about doing it. To help out in this quest, Mr. Scary (famous tattoo artist) introduced Michael to his friend Sean Hartgrove, an accomplished tattoo industry photographer based in Denver that specialized in creating aggressive images of the tattoo lifestyle. Utilizing Sean’s considerable photographic talent, the crew teamed up with graphic designer Tim Suthithanin to create a line of posters featuring beautiful, tattooed models in provocative and aggressive poses. These posters prominently featuring gorgeous models with guns were an immediate hit in the tattoo community. Thus the original business of Outlaw Posters Ink, the preceding venture that Outlaw Clothing Ink precipitated from, was born. Why call your company Outlaw Clothing though? Michael chose this name not because he wanted to sell to criminals or piss off the cops, but because he wanted a name that really captured and embodied the fiercely independent spirit of those that embraced the rebellious attitude of the outlaw lifestyle. Let’s be honest here. Outlaw Clothing is not for everyone, and that is entirely by design. The products that Michael creates with the team he has put together are not intended to appeal to the mass market, and they never will. They are meant for those with a strong “FTW,” bad-ass, attitude that are comfortable in both being who they are as an individual and expressing that to the world through the clothing that they choose to wear. That being said, you might then expect to see the words “Outlaw Clothing Ink” plastered prominently in eight inch high letters all over every shirt, hat, and hoodie that the company produces. This is not the case, the exact opposite is true. Michael and his team long ago made an executive decision not to put their company name anywhere that would be visible on the outside of their products. Why pass up this opportunity for shameless, public self-promotion like so many other similar companies before them had done in the exploding street wear industry? Because that’s not a reflection of who their customers are…nor is it a reflection of whom they want to be as a company. Unlike so many other street-wear
companies out there that came before them, Outlaw Clothing Ink wants to lead with the creative strength of their edgy graphic designs, powerful photographic images and carefully hand sewn patch work, not their company name. Might this be considered counterintuitive to a small business that is still largely struggling to make a name for itself in the extremely competitive, global street wear marketplace? Absolutely. This is really their way of saying to their customers “It is your right to express yourself, your attitude and your individuality through the clothes you choose to wear. We respect you enough not ask you to be a billboard for our company through your process of doing that.” By bucking the trend of corporate self-promotion in this way, and therefore showing a tremendous amount of respect for their customer’s independence and individuality, Michael Polemi and the Outlaw Clothing Ink team have created a quickly growing and fiercely loyal
customer base that is rapidly expanding around the globe. Adoring customers reach out to them from all over the world to place orders 24 hours a day through the company’s web site at OutlawClothingInk.com (those living in the Denver Metro Area though can check out Outlaw Clothing Ink’s products in person at both Luxe De Vil Salon and at New Culture Boutique). So what’s their secret sauce then? Why do so many people absolutely love Outlaw Clothing Ink’s line of street wear products? Is it the incredible attention to detail they have at every step in the creative and design process? No. Is it the cutting edge graphics from design partner Kevin Strawbridge, incorporating images that have just enough attitude and shock value in them to appeal to those that see themselves as intentional misfits, living out on the fringes of society? No. Is it the coolness factor of wearing clothes from a cool company that only prints their name on the inside of the products they produce? No. Is it there commitment to only

How to Keep Her Once You’ve Got Her Tracie Khokhlov-Skakovsky So you got the date, it went well... but now what? I have so many guy friends that seem to get any girl they want, yet once they get her they cannot keep her. I’ve been repeatedly asked what tips I can give them. So guys, here you go. I decided to do some research because not all of my information given can be primarily based on my experiences alone. I once met a man, Mark, who at the young age of 25 made the decision to devote a portion of his life to studying how to swoon a woman. He wanted to know how to make her feel like a princess, how to get her hot while not seeming weak or unmanly. He has been running this study for over 15 years now and this is what he told me: PARADOXES OF THE MASTER * Do not seek control, impart wisdom * Control yourself, she will crave your direction * Be kind, so you may be strict * Be humble, so you may deliver correction * Be principled, so she understands * Teach her, receive her wetness * Hoist her up, so she will kneel with conviction * Free her, and you will own her * Make love to her, so she can hold onto you * Fuck her, so she knows the difference * Respect her, she will unleash her ‘slut nature’ * Whisper and be heard clearly * Give her wings, she will crawl to you * Give her space, she will nudge closer * Reward her liberally, it will promote obedience * Correct disobedience, but do it with the least force required * Be kind, do not be WEAK * Perpetuate her femininity, she will feed your masculinity * Train her to avoid failure, but reward the smallest of successes * Master her, do not smother her
