It’s fall, y’all! The fall season is the perfect time of year to spend with family and friends, enjoying the gorgeous foliage, return of football season, and the crisp, fresh air! If you are looking to plan some day trips this fall, I have pulled together some of the hottest restaurants that you must check out on the South Shore, along with must-try dishes and drinks.

Three V Restaurant is known as “a new energy to America’s hometown,” and it is truly just that!
Three V Restaurant was created by the third generation of the Viscariello Family, celebrating the legacy of service and evolution of the family’s love affair with great tasting food and lasting connection to the South Shore community. They offer an outstanding menu that will satisfy your taste buds no matter what you are in the mood for. Not to mention, a fun, casual ambiance! For food, kick your meal off with the Street Corn and Fried Pickles as appetizers.

The Range in Hingham is the perfect spot for a business meeting, to watch a big game, enjoy a date night, or a relaxing night out with family and friends. The restaurant features cozy booths and tables, comfortable bar stools, and a gorgeous outdoor patio overlooking an expansive driving range. Their menu features something for everyone and offers a wide variety of items, an ever-changing seasonal menu, and a diverse drink list to appeal to all tastes. For food, you can’t go wrong with any of the appetizers at The Range, but some of my favorites include the Meatball Sliders, Shrimp Scampi Flatbread, Loaded Nachos, and the Short Rib Poutine. The Meatball sliders are meatballs topped with marinara and parmesan in a perfect garlic-buttered bun. For seafood, enjoy the Shrimp Scampi Flatbread on cauliflower crust (yes!), with olive oil, shrimp, tomato, spinach, garlic, mozzarella, and parmesan. Of course, you can’t miss out on the Loaded Nachos, which can (and have to be) topped with The Range’s buffalo chicken. These nachos are to-die-for, including The Range

This dish is not only super flavorful and delicious, but also downright gorgeous and full of color! And, you cannot go wrong with Fried Pickles, especially when they are paired with tabasco aioli, which you will want to bottle up and take home with you! For entrees, if you are in the mood for an Italian dish, do not think twice about the Butternut Squash Ravioli. This dish is butternut squash wrapped in thin egg pasta, tossed with craisins, sliced almonds, and a delectable brown sugar and sage cream sauce. For a Japanese dish, check out the Soba Noodle Bowl, which comes with snow peas, carrots, peppers, onions, peanuts, soy sauce, and sesame oil. These are perfect to eat all by yourself or to share if you want to order a few items! Don’t forget to finish with dessert – I recommend the Three V S’Mores, a warm brownie with graham cracker pastry cream and toasted house-made marshmallow! For drinks, there is a cocktail on the menu for everyone! For something spicy, check out the Hot and Filthy martini, mixed with Tito’s® vodka, pepperoncini juice, olive juice, and a dash of tabasco, garnished with a pepperoncini pepper and olives. For a spicy lover like myself, this drink was an absolute dream, and so uniquely flavored that you must try for yourself! For something fruity, order the Lunch with Karen, mixed with lemon vodka, strawberry liqueur, pink lemonade, and a Cabernet float, garnished with an orange and cherry skewer. And, for dessert, you will die for the Willy Wonka, mixed with vanilla vodka, Godiva® chocolate liqueur, White Crème de Cacao, and a chocolate caramel swirl.

In late 2020, the Yotts family decided it was time to sell their Hingham family home.
A move closer to the ocean was on their minds. With their home already sold in a private sale, the family needed a transitional rental while they found their next home. Meeting Darryl Weh
A stacked stone facade was built around the existing fireplace structure. A limestone hearth and whitewashed mantle complete the coastal look. The dry bar is located off the living room and faces the pantry; An open floor plan was created after removing most of the interior kitchen wall to welcome guests.
“To make it work, we built a second wall within the wall so the doors would not collide internally, allowing both doors to open and close smoothly.”
Removing an interior wall opened the kitchen to the entryway, improved the first floor’s flow, and put the steel cable and maple split staircase on full display. “The staircase is a showstopper, everyone who comes in comments how gorgeous it is,” says Claire. “Everything we envisioned came to life within five months of the Copia team demoing to the studs.” With the gorgeous views and clean, modern interior, it is easy to believe this family will enjoy this tranquil home for years to come.
Under the leadership of local entrepreneur Darryl Wehmeyer, Copia has quickly become a familiar name in the real estate community on the South Shore. Having experienced the typical stress associated with purchasing real estate, Darryl knew he wanted his clients’ experience to be different. Copia Real Estate Design & Build is structured around the idea that home buying, building, and renovating should be simple, transparent, and as stress-free as possible. “We chose to work with Copia because Darryl is honest, really listens, and responded to our ideas during the design process realistically and directly,” says Claire. Working with a design-build company with extensive real estate knowledge was an advantage in finding the ideal property to renovate. “Darryl would meet us at various properties we were considering. He helped us with each property’s pros and cons and provided valuable feedback on renovations and their asso ciated costs.” Keeping that feedback in mind, Claire and Joe decided on a unique property in Marshfield, MA, with sweeping views of Duxbury Bay, the marsh, and Powder Point Bridge. The contemporary home was built in 1979 and featured addi tions added throughout the years—it also required some cre ative problem-solving to bring to life the Yotts’ dream of an open concept, modern coastal design. The plan for renovations to the home included the kitchen, a dry bar with a pantry, built-ins for the living room, four bathrooms, a stone fireplace, updating the staircase, and updated flooring throughout the home. The de sire to have an open concept kitchen and living area required removing a load-bearing wall. Balancing the client’s wants with building requirements is a challenge familiar to Darryl, and often involves small details. “Claire loved the pocket door entryway to the dining room off the foyer and wanted to install a pocket door for the home office area located off the kitchen. The trouble was there was not enough distance between the entryways to ac commodate two pocket door entryways internally, Darryl says.

When asked what their favorite part of the newly renovated home was, Claire responded, “We have a few favorite parts of the project, but the first on the list would have to be the kitchen.
The cabinets, the hardware, and quartz countertops all came together beautifully!” With a 10-foot island and plenty of space, the kitchen has become a gathering place for family and friends.

BOSTON WAS TRANSFORMED from a relatively small and economically stagnant town in 1780 to a bustling seaport and cosmopolitan center with a large and highly mobile population by 1800. It had become one of the world’s wealthiest international trading ports, exporting products like rum, fish, salt, and tobacco from around the globe. The city was a melting pot of mixed nationalities from Europe. By 1850, over 25% of Boston’s 135,000 residents were of Irish descent. The South Shore region of Massachusetts was predominately rural coastal farm communities. Rail service was limited and seasonal to the South Shore until the Old Colony Line connected the region in 1865. Soon after beach resort hotels began to be built along Cape Cod Bay, for summer excursions to the shore. In the mid-to-late 1800s, Boston’s Irish Immigrants began to acquire wealth and

These shores are a hideaway blessed with natural beauty and pristine communities for the perfect seaside life. Much like Ireland, it is a place we can call home.” By the early 1900s, the South Shore along with Cape Cod saw steady growth of both year-round and summer residents and became one of New England’s most popular tourism destinations.
The South Shore in Massachusetts includes the communities of Cohasset, Scituate, Norwell, Hanover, Marshfield, Pembroke, Duxbury, Kingston, and Plymouth. Cohasset boasts a large common area with a pond, four active shopping malls within the town, the colonial First Parish Meeting House, and St. Stephen’s Church which features a 56-bell carillon that is used for Sunday concerts, a tradition that began back in 1924. There are several large tracts of wetlands and forested areas that are protected from any further development. Although the town is no longer an active fishing center it is a great area for boaters. Cohasset offers a yacht club, a sailing club, and a public boat launch in the harbor. It is also a terrific place for the outdoor enthusiast with three beaches that lay along the bay, a bird sanctuary, the Wompatuck State Park, and the Whitney and Thayer Woods Reservation.
Cohasset has the charm of the typical New England town with a rich history, quaint downtown shops, classic historic homes, steepled churches, tree-lined main streets, sandy beaches, great schools, open spaces, and parks, and a wide range of home styles. This treasured little seacoast town comes at a price with some of the most expensive real estate in the state.
SCITUATE Scituate is a small to mid-sized seacoast community located equidistant between Boston and Plymouth. In the 375 years since its incorporation, it has evolved from a summer colony to a residential community but has managed to retain some of the flavors of its past. MARSHFIELD The South Shore coastal town of Marshfield almost doubles in size in the summer months. What is normally a small, quiet town of about 25,000 becomes a bustling vacation destination with almost 40,000 people. Even year-round residents say the town can feel like a vacation destination.
Marshfield is a historic town with amazing beaches and top-notch restaurants all nestled in this ocean community; in the summertime, Marshfield is the place to be. In addition to soaking up the sun, beachgoers can walk, bird-watch, go clamming, barbecue, picnic, and engage in various sporting activities, such as sailing, snorkeling, and even surfing. There are extensive seaside amenities, and waterfront and water view homes as well.

While kitchens started taking on more color and becoming more functional during this time, bathrooms simplified and streamlined. While two toned kitchens have been around for decades, they’re a trend that has been gaining popularity in a major way. When the fad started, people would play it safe by mixing white and gray painted cabinets, or adding a neutral colored island into a sea of white painted cabinets.
With consumers becoming increasingly conscious of our world’s limited resources, the trend towards using reclaimed and recycled materials is exploding. The movement away from plastic in the kitchen is fierce and utilizing natural materials is a priority for many designers, homeowners, and manufacturers.

“For a long time people were afraid to have oak and other stained woods in their kitchen and bath; painted cabinetry has dominated these spaces. Over the last few years though, we’ve been seeing stained wood accents pop up alongside the painted cabinets. Wood is solidifying its place as a stylish accent – and in 2023 we’re likely to see this trend continue,” says Marlene MacDonald Ketchen, Owner of The Cabinetry in Norwell, MA.
Copper is leading the way in contemporary kitchens for its ability to add instant warmth to a room. The shift to wall lighting versus overhead lighting is a charming place to add in touches of this cozy metal.
One cabinetry trend that will continue into 2023 is finished cabinets that reach all the way to the ceiling. By eliminating the small space between the cabinet top and the ceiling, they reduce dust collection and utilize every inch of space for storage.

In 2023, we’re going to see stained woods make their permanent mark on the two-toned world. Wood accents have been showing themselves in kitchen design recently and it’s a trend that’s here to stay.
Terrazzo has taken the kitchen world by storm. Made from cement and natural stone fragments like dolomite, sand, and marble, it’s easy to care for and cheaper than natural stone. Featured on countertops and back walls, terrazzo along with quartz, quartzite and marble are 2023’s materials of choice.

They add a luxurious, upgraded elegance to the kitchen that is undeniable. Color & Walls Green is stepping forward as the color of choice in the kitchen with blue following closely behind. Blue-green, teal, khaki, and olive green are all up and coming colors for 2023.
Touchless Technology
The move towards touchless technology found its way into our home kitchens during the pandemic as much as it did into commercial spaces. Kitchen fittings are increasingly being created with sensors which are not only more sanitary but practical when contending with food mess. Interior designers consistently look to incorporate touchless tech anytime they can for their clients.
2023 Bathrooms: A Return To Timeless Elegance
Wallpapered accents are a retro trend that will meander into 2023 as well. Design-conscious consumers have created a need for kitchen-specific wallpaper that can withstand anything a greasy pan can spat at it. Flowers, tropical patterns, and naturethemed prints like foliage and twigs are all perfect for an accent wall. They bring a fresh vibe to your kitchen and a pop of visual interest to the space.
Many of the trends for 2023 in the kitchen are mimicked in the bathroom: A focus on natural materials, copper as the metal of choice, wallpaper accent walls and technical innovations. Ergonomics and functionality are at the forefront of interior designer’s minds and include elongated wardrobes with no handles, built-in wardrobes with sliding doors, and built-in cabinets with smooth fronts and mirrored facades. Any open shelving should only feature decorative elements and ideally be made of a natural/reclaimed material.

We see a lot of Calacatta marble, Carrara marble, white marble, white and gray porcelain that has marble style to it…Silver Shadow is a very popular grout color right now because it works so well with so many different tiles and stones.
Color Minimalistic white and gray are commanding the trend as 2023’s favorite color combination. Additionally, look for neutral walls of cream and sand balanced with bronze/ copper fittings and green accessories. These tones add a sense of coastal freshness and an air of elegance to the space. Wallpaper or tile may be utilized to add graphic interest. Geometric or natureinspired waves, spirals, and circles are all trending for 2023. Just remember: they should always be used sparingly.

If you’re thinking about the possibility now or in the future for a golf simulator and are still planning your new home or addition, it’s worth doing the right planning early on in the process.
I’ve seen folks dig existing basements deeper, knock down walls, and jam sims in tragically short or narrow spaces, sometimes eliminating left-handed play. One guy put a sim in his living room. Another really rich guy made the sacrifice of a giant beam passing through the center of the top of the screen.
A great standard sim area is 15-16’ wide, 10-12’ high, and 25-30’ deep. Going up to 25 feet wide enables real excitement with a super wide curved screen–maybe up to 180 degrees.

My favorite was the guy who crammed his sim into a short 12’ wide space in a dark corner of his basement where his pool room had two oversized tables and a massive bar and a home theater that reminded me of IMAX. It was a five minute walk from the refrigerator to the sink in his kitchen–he had more wasted space there than his sim room.
You might not think it’s much of a challenge to install a golf sim, and it really isn’t. But after having seen countless unconsidered sacrifices for space by jamming an outdoor sport into a relatively tiny space, I predict that any design ideas you might have for your sim have at least some minor flaws that could possibly be easily corrected.
Golf is played outside. Higher is ALWAYS better, wider is ALWAYS better, and deeper is ALWAYS better. Consider that drivers are long. The footprint of a drive can be 11’ end to end, 7’ wide by almost 10’ high in some cases. And that’s just the footprint of the swing. It’s best to plan for 12 feet of ball flight and at least a foot of open area between the screen and the wall behind it. And don’t forget a comfortable 8-15 feet behind the sim, depending on if you want seating, a place to set beverages, and room for your friends and their clubs.
