The Ocean State Rhode Island

“Because of its size, living in Rhode Island means you’re close to everything that the state has to offer.”

THE SINGLE MOST WELL-KNOWN FACT about Rhode Island is that it is the smallest state in the Nation. If it is true that big things come in small packages, then the state of Rhode Island fits this idiom perfectly. Native tribes occupied Rhode Island thousands of years before the English settlers reached these shores in 1620 because of the rich natural resources and temperate Northeast climate. Many of the waterways, towns, and islands are named for native tribes from the region. Rhode Island is a place steeped in character where you are embraced by history and the culture only found here in New England. If you are from here you get it, and those that are not, can’t seem to get enough of it! Many out-of-state college students are drawn yearly to Rhode Island to attend some of the most esteemed institutions in the U.S., and the decision to leave the area after graduation can be a challenging one. Rhode Island offers residents access to one of the country’s most eclectic small city, Providence, the capital. Because of its size, living in Rhode Island means you’re close to everything the state has to offer, including ocean beaches, recreation, and top tourist attractions like Newport, Narragansett, and South County. It’s also just a short ride to Boston, New York, Cape Cod, and some of the most popular Island spots on the Eastern Seaboard. Great public transportation, airports, rail, and ferry connections make it relatively simple to go anywhere from here. Here, the living choices are as diverse as almost anywhere. Down City living in Providence means you’re close to everything: culture, events, education, medical facilities, and some of the best dining on the planet. Just north of

Rhode Island

Providence, Blackstone Valley communities have the best of both worlds, country living and city access. The West Bay offers convenient access to city life, country life, and the beaches are just a short ride south. In South County, it’s like living on vacation year-round, and again, being close to everything. In the East Bay, Barrington, Warren, and Bristol are historic gems, and living on Aquidneck Island in Newport is very special indeed. Across Narragansett Bay and away from it all are the two seaside towns of Tiverton and Little Compton along the Secret Coast of Rhode Island. The Ocean is everywhere, the bounty from the sea is amazing, the communities are spectacular, and life here is seasonally perfect!

Wicked Awesome Restaurants to Visit This Summer in

‘Little Rhody’ BY BRITTANY RAYBURN THE SEASON THAT WE WAIT ALL YEAR FOR is finally here – Summertime! What better place to spend the Summer than in the beautiful state of Rhode Island? Home to some of the most stunning waterfront views and some of the best restaurants in all New England. We’ve rounded up five of our favorite restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, that you must visit next time you are in the area. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed!

Bacaro Providence, RI Bacaro Restaurant is an outstanding Italian restaurant that is in the historic Charles Tanner Building along the riverfront in downtown Providence. Bacaro is owned by Brian Kingsford & Jennifer Mata, who have

both been working in the industry for almost two decades! Bacaro prides itself on applying a simple approach to indigenous ingredients. While you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu at Bacaro, you must kick off your meal with one of their delicious charcuterie boards. Some of my favorite meats and cheeses to include on the board include Prosciutto di Parma, Hot Soppressata, Burrata, Del Monico Provolone, Fresh Buffalo Mozzarella, Bucherondin, Taleggio, and of course a side of assorted olives! If you’re in the mood for pizza, the Pizza Margherita will blow your taste buds away, which is topped with San

Marzano tomato (the best!), basil, and two cheeses. Or, for a pasta dish, try the Pasta Con I Funghi, which is made with Fresh egg tagliatelle in rich European-style butter with Parmigiano-Reggiano, white truffle scented egg, as well as mushroom duxelles. For drinks, the Bacaro Spritz is a classic perfect cocktail for Summer, mixed with Prosecco and a splash of Aperol served over ice. For something fruitier, the Brioni is a stimulatingly refreshing cocktail that consists of grapefruit vodka, Campari, Elderflower liqueur, fresh squeezed lime juice, and ginger beer.

OTRA Providence, RI OTRA (translated as “Other”) is a new restaurant opened by Brian Kingsford and Jennifer Matta of Bacaro Restaurant (right next door!) in Providence. OTRA is a Barcelonian/Iberian-inspired restaurant concept that explores the foods of Spain and Portugal with some Southern French influences. At OTRA, you can enjoy entrees and drinks in the dining room, or at the bar area to interact with the Chef or observe their skills as dishes get prepared. Steak lovers – look no further than the Carne a la Plancha con “Huesos Huecos” dish. This dish is served with Prime sirloin steak and roasted marrow bone with shishito peppers, blistered tomatoes, and rosemary “Quemado.” Hands down, this will be one of the most delicious steaks you will ever enjoy! For seafood lovers, you will not regret ordering the Paella a la Valenciana, which includes Narragansett Bay littleneck, chicken thighs, saffron, sweet peas, as well as piquillo pepper. And, if you’re in the mood for Paella without the shellfish, OTRA is extremely accommodating! These entrees can be paired perfectly with the Mallorcan Pisco Sour or the OTRA Sangria. The Mallorcan Pisco Sour is a Spanish twist on the original Peruvian cocktail made traditionally with Pisco, pineapple juice, fresh squeezed lime juice, and coconut water. But, to bring in a Spanish Island twist, OTRA floats Cava, Spanish sparkling wine, right on top! The OTRA Sangria Tinto is a red sangria that breaks tradition as it is finished with a dry Cava instead of soda water or lemon/lime soda, providing a richer and more adulterous Sangria than what you’d find elsewhere.

The Grill At Forty 1° North Newport, RI The Grill at Forty 1° North is an exclusive dockside restaurant that is designed to deliver a fresh, upscale dining and entertainment experience with a unique and serene respite from Newport’s bustling waterfront scene. The menu has something for everyone whether you’re looking for meats, seafood, and raw bar, as well as organic and locally sourced selections. To begin your meal, order the Spaghetti, made with cashew, miso, wild mushroom,

and peas. This spaghetti will “wow” you with its delicious creamy sauce! For meat, try the 8 oz. Center Cut Filet Mignon, paired up with my favorite sides, the Roasted Sweet Potatoes, and the Brussel Sprouts. The Roasted Sweet Potatoes are topped with bacon and pickled shallot, while the Brussel Sprouts are finished off with a chipotle-maple glaze. For a seafood dish, try the 8 oz. Yellow Fin Tuna Steak, which is the perfect summer dish, cooked to absolute perfection! If you’re able to save room for dessert, try the Crème Brûlée,

served with caramel bacon popcorn, or one of the restaurant’s dessert specials, the Buttermilk Sorbet with Mixed Berries and an oat crumble. For beverages, some of my favorites on the menu include the Kir Royale as well as the Mai Tai. The Kir Royale is mixed with billecart-salmon champagne and blackberry and is super light and refreshing. The Mai Tai (one of the best I have ever had!) is mixed with house blended rum, pineapple, lime, as well as almond orgeat.

quality cocktails and appetizers, Audrey’s is your place! Not to mention, they feature karaoke nights as well as Monday night Bachelor showings (umm, a dream)! If you’re visiting in the morning, pair your coffee with the Avocado Toast, which is sourdough or multigrain bread from South County Bread Co. topped with avocado, tomato, arugula, as well as “Everything but the Bagel” seasoning. This toast is the perfect way to start off your day! If you’re visiting in the evening, you must order the Buffalo Chicken Dip (maybe two orders…) which is

house-made and served with warm tortilla chips. This Buffalo Chicken Dip has the perfect amount of spice and is truly addicting! For cocktails, wine lovers will love the Peach and Red Sangria, which are perfect to sip on during a warm summer night. These sangrias are fruity, fresh, flavorful, and super refreshing! For a cocktail that will double as a dessert and make all your Girl Scout cookie dreams come true, check out the Thin Mint Martini, which literally tastes like your favorite Girl Scout cookie in liquid form!

The Wharf Warren, RI The Wharf Tavern was established in 1955 and has thrived as a destination for fine food and drink in a seaside atmosphere ever since! The original wharf and surrounding buildings date back to the mid 1700’s, used for rigging merchant and fishing boats. Not only are the views absolutely stunning at The Wharf, but they have an unbelievable menu with something for everyone! When visiting The Wharf, you must indulge in their seafood dishes! If you enjoy shrimp, you must order the Coconut Shrimp, which is fried to perfection and topped with an orange pineapple marmalade and Asian chili sauce. This Coconut Shrimp seriously to die for! For an entrée, try the Asian Glazed Chilean Sea Bass, which is perfectly tender and buttery, and served with Jasmine rice stir fry, as well as baby bok choy. If you are like me and prefer your margaritas spicy, you will be obsessed with the Sweet Heat Margarita, mixed with Jalapeno infused silver tequila, Cointreau, pineapple juice, as well as fresh lime juice. You will not be able to order just one! For a lighter beverage, check out the Hibiscus Bellini, mixed with Tito’s vodka, elderflower liquor, and topped with prosecco and a hibiscus flower for a beautiful aesthetic!

THE RESTORATION OF THE 1887 SEAFIELD COTTAGE BY DAVITT DESIGN BUILD Set in the heart of Narragansett Pier, this completely renovated and restored historical home gracefully combines an interior redesigned for modern beach living and a timeless exterior facade. The Seafield Cottage, aptly named for its proximity to the Narragansett Town Beach and Sea Wall, was originally built in 1887 and features five bedrooms on a large .314 acre lot. The previous owners purchased the property in the 1960s, raised

eight children in the home, and ran a successful bed and breakfast business beginning in the 1970s. Over the years there were minor renovations to the property, including adding an undersized garage for the owner’s classic car, but major renovations were necessary to address the degrading structural integrity of the house and to bring the home into conformance with today’s building codes. KITCHEN (AFTER) photographed by Elaine Fredrick

KITCHEN (BEFORE) photographed by Michael David

The goal of this project was to revitalize the home to showcase the historical exterior facade and merge a modern interior conducive for entertaining and family gatherings after a day at the beach. Special attention was given to preserve the architectural elements unique to the period in which the home was built. The most significant challenge was addressing the substandard foundation. The home was built on dirt and brick pilings which did not extend below the frost line. Over the course of one hundred years, these pilings settled unevenly due to natural freeze and thaw cycles in New England winters. The first floor system and original hardwood floors were bowed with high and low 24 COASTALHOMELI FE.CO M S UMM E R 2022

spots. The remainder of the first floor was comprised of separate kitchen, dining, and living rooms, leaving an outdated interior of closed off spaces. A new foundation was the solution to the deteriorating structure, but the home was located in the Narragansett Historical District and could not be torn down. Davitt Design Build devised a plan to gut the interior of the house, lift the house off its old pilings, move the house to allow room to dig a foundation, install a proper foundation, and move the house back on its new foundation, leveling out the structure in the process.

COVER STORY

davitt design build

Once the house was secure on its new foundation, Davitt Design Build was meticulous about crafting a home that appealed to everyday luxury living. The stairs were reconfigured in the main entrance way to allow for a grand light-filled two story foyer. The primary bedroom was relocated to the first floor with a classic soaking tub as the centerpiece to the ensuite bathroom. A two car garage was added to the rear of the house with additional bonus living space above for a recreation room. The kitchFOYER (AFTER) photographed by Ten Real Estate Photographers

en, dining, and living rooms were redesigned to be open living spaces for casual family gatherings or entertaining. While reconfiguring the main foyer staircase, we discovered on the back of one of the 1x6 stair raisers the signatures of the original builders dated January 23rd, 1896. Preserving the history, the Davitt crew added their own signatures to the original stair riser and returned the artifact to within the wall. FOYER (BEFORE) photographed by Michael David

110 BOON STREET (AFTER) photographed by Aaron Usher

The focus on preserving the historical exterior of the home is highlighted by all new exterior siding, trim and roofing. New Andersen casement windows replaced the old counterbalance windows while matching the look of the original two-over-two style windows. The three original brick chimneys, which were the structural center of the 1887 home, were removed during demolition to allow for modern structural framing for open living space to be created. The three brick chimneys were replicated to preserve the original look of the roof line. The porch overlooking the expansive yard was replicated with mahogany decking and beadboard ceilings. The original columns supporting the porch roof overhang were salvaged during the demolition and were reinstalled and simply sanded and repainted. The stunning two-toned kitchen features luxury cabinetry, sleek white quartzite countertops and a striking tile backsplash. The kitchen is spacious with a large functional island. The combination of the stainless-steel appliances, timeless hardware, and 26 COASTALHOMELI FE.CO M S UMM E R 2022

modern light fixtures creates an elevated presentation. The stained oak wood flooring joins with the modern kitchen to offer feelings of warmth and comfort. The clients were delighted with the results of their newly renovated home which stays true to the era in which it was originally built. The next chapter for the Seafield Cottage is a coastal retreat that is all at once modern and spacious and comfortable and welcoming, all the while paying tribute to the significant history of the house the homeowners find so inspiring.

The state’s nickname, the Ocean State, refers to the over 400 miles of coastline along the Atlantic Ocean and Narragansett Bay, New England’s largest estuary which provides coastal and waterside living opportunities in most of the cities and towns in the region. Founded in 1636 by Roger Williams as one of the original 13 colonies, Rhode Island can stake a claim to an inordinate amount of American and world history. This trickles down to visitors in the form of interesting architecture, important landmarks, fascinating museums, and some of the finest

seafood and traditional Italian restaurants in the world. As a tiny state of just about 1,500 square miles, Rhode Island has more bridges conversing waterways, crossing inlets, rivers, estuaries, and bays than almost any other state in the country. Nearly every inch of the state lies within 20 miles of the ocean or Narragansett Bay, which begins at the northern end of the state, first as the Seekonk River and then the Providence River. A large chunk of the state is on the islands of Aquidneck, Conanicut, Prudence, Block, and a few others. And while Rhode Island has a very high population density, most of the state feels fairly rural and undeveloped in many places.

Rhode Island consists of five counties and four major islands all within close proximity to the state’s vast coastal regions. The five counties make up the state’s regions as well, which are distinctly different and unique in many ways. In the West Bay, Providence County, Kent County, and Washington County account for 88% of the state population of just over 1 million residents. In the less populated East Bay, Newport County and Bristol County are home to the famous city of Newport, and a host of small historic seaside communities along Narragansett Bay. Living in Rhode Island can offer a wide range of choices from city living to coastal living and countryside homes with acreage S U M M E R 2 02 2 COA S TA L H OMEL IFE.COM 29

From cityside lofts and historic mill conversion residences to mansions along the sea and country estates with stone walls and open fields or small-town homes with historic character and charm, it’s all here in little Rhode Island. If you are a native New Englander or just want to be, the ocean breezes, the taste of fresh North Atlantic seafood, and the deep history of this region will embrace you in the Ocean State in every season. It’s no secret that many of the wealthiest families along the Eastern Seaboard in the U.S. have coveted summer residences along these shores for generations and many celebrities are drawn to the shores along Narragansett Bay.

designbuild Luxury Home Simulators

Planning for a High End Golf Simulator BY BILL BALES The largest and most frequent mistakes in planning indoor golf are made by high end home owners. You might not

38 COASTALHOMELI FE.CO M S UM ME R 2022

think it’s much of a challenge to install a golf sim. But after having seen countless unconsidered sacrifices for space by jamming an outdoor sport into a relatively tiny space, I predict that any design ideas you might have for your sim have flaws.

Golf is played outside. Higher is ALWAYS better, wider is ALWAYS better, and deeper is ALWAYS better. And, do reality checks; drivers are long–the footprint of a drive can be 11’ long by 7’ wide by almost 10’ high in some cases. And that’s

DESIGN BUILD

luxury home simulators

just the footprint of the swing. It’s best to plan for 12 feet of ball flight and at least a foot of open area between the screen and the wall behind it. And don’t forget a comfortable 8-15 feet behind the sim. I’ve seen folks dig existing basements deeper, knock down walls, expand basements and jam sims in tragically short or narrow spaces, sometimes eliminating left-handed play. One guy put his sim in his living room. Another really rich guy made the sacrifice of a giant beam passing through the center of the top of the screen. My favorite was the guy who crammed his sim into a 12’ wide space in a dark corner of his basement where his pool room had two oversized tables and a massive bar and a home theater bigger than some nice theaters. It was a five-minute walk from the refrigerator to the sink in his kitchen. A great standard sim area is 15-16’ wide, 10-12’ high, and 25-30’ deep. Going up to 25 feet deep enables real excitement with a super wide curved screen–maybe up to 180 degrees. And, getting that ceiling as high as you can–at least 10 feet–makes a big difference. My latest company offers free expertise in golf sim planning. We can help you plan your ultimate sim, but we can also apply our Nano Science to designing a simulator you can have in a room 14’ long by 10’ wide by 8’ high.

I work with New England Media and provide free expertise (our team has the best overall resume in the business) to any of our readers. We can assist any homeowner on how to optimize their simulator plan–and how to avoid the egregious mistakes we see every day. HOW TO CREATE THE PERFECT OUTDOOR LIVING (AND WORK) ROOM Outdoor spaces have become more relevant for living Summer is here, and it’s time for homeowners to ready yards and landscapes for backyarding. The pandemic thrust us into a new reality, and the back yard has a starring role. Yards and other managed landscapes became a safe haven. Outdoor living became a way of life as lawns, gardens, patios and decks evolved into outdoor offices, classrooms, family gathering places, and the new ‘hot spots’ in our homes. Nearly two in five in Americans who have a yard (58%) say they spent time doing work for their job in their yard during the pandemic. Here are a few ideas that will work universally in all outdoor living space planning.

Create Activity Zones

Consider what needs to happen in the back yard and map activity areas. A shady table can double as a home office, study zone, art table, or dining spot. A hammock or outdoor sofa can suffice for napping, reading or studying. A patch of sturdy grass is perfect for sports, family games and play. A fire pit offers cozy chairs for star gazing and socializing, while a grill near a seating area promises delicious meals. A wall, fence, or pergola may hold an outdoor movie screen for nighttime viewing. An herb or vegetable garden helps kids learn about science and nutrition while reaping the satisfaction of growing food for the table.

CONTEMPORARY

landscape

Design in Bristol, RI by Land Design Associates Inc. Plan Functionality

Is there a quiet spot for conference calls? Or a shady spot that minimizes glare for online video meetings? Note where electrical outlets are and if an outdoor-rated extension cord will be needed to accommodate all of the electronics that may be used outside. Check wifi coverage and cell service in the yard and determine if there is enough comfortable seating.

Spruce up Existing Landscaping

Assess the back yard and do some basic “clean up.” Fix bare patches in the grass. Use a leaf blower to clean out flower beds. Prune bushes and trees. Cut the grass to a healthy height. Add a fresh layer of mulch around your trees and in flower beds. Freshen up by weeding, planting flower beds and filling pots with colorful flowers and verdant plants.

This property and house underwent a complete renovation. Existing drainage and grading problems were fixed, then modular outdoor spaces such as the pool area, a rich lush lawn, an entertaining area for large gatherings under an allee of fragrant linden trees, and a pool house/guest apartment were installed. In phase one, a large planting of evergreen privacy perimeter plants and foundation plants were installed. Landscape lighting extends the use of the entire property into beautiful summer nights lounging by the pool. The two entry areas were re-designed and renovated to accommodate guest parking when the family is hosting a large gathering. For a complete portfolio visit: www.landdesignassociates.com.

Hide Unsightly Items and Control Noise

Trees, shrubs and bushes offer cover from neighbors, deliver shade, camouflage unsightly pool equipment and air handlers, and tamp down noise. Planters with flowers between seating and eating areas on a patio add visual interest and privacy. Shrubs and tall plants are a terrific privacy-creator and noise canceller for those conference calls.

Put the Right Plant in the Right Place

Choosing the right plants for the climate zone and for your lifestyle will create a back — yarding space that is attractive. It will also be easier to maintain and support pollinators and wildlife. Consider watering and sunlight or shade needs. A hardy grass variety is more likely to hold up to pets and kids. Save delicate flowering plants for patio containers.

Invite the Outdoors In

Blending interior and outdoor living spaces helps the backyard feel like an extension of the home. Open blinds and curtains to the yard. Use complementary indoor and outdoor décor in similar colors, materials and styles to create a cohesive space. This enables everyone to transition seamlessly from indoor life to outdoor living. Visit your local Patio and Hard/Soft Landscape Centers to get fresh ideas and cost. S U M M E R 2 02 2 COA S TA L H OMEL IFE.COM 45

floridaliving The Sunshine State Has a Lot to Offer

BY CHL STAFF FLORIDA HAS ONE OF THE HOTTEST real estate markets in the country and for good reason. The state is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, Alabama, and Georgia. Florida is also an international tourist destination with yearround sunshine (earning the state its nickname “The Sunshine State”) and world-class theme parks. The economy is dynamic and diverse, with dozens of global business headquarters and a government that is both pro-business and pro-development. The demand for buying and renting real estate in Florida is predicted to keep growing well into the next 5 years and beyond. It is a prime market for year-round living, working, second homes, and retirement. The market is being driven by a 54 COASTALHOMELI FE.CO M S UM ME R 2022

combination of Covid work from home relocation, migration from high tax states with burdening regulations, and corporations taking advantage of Florida’s pro-business growth initiatives.

POPULATION GROWTH Florida has gained more than 2.7 million new residents since 2010, making the state the 3rd most populated after California and Texas. Home to over 21.5 million people, Florida’s population grew by 14.6% compared to one decade earlier. Over the next few years, Florida is projected to gain 845 new residents per day. In 2022, the state will grow to over 22 million. The four largest metro areas in Florida are Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach with 6.2 million residents, Tampa-St. Petersburg-

Clearwater with 3.1 million, OrlandoKissimmee-Sanford with 2.5 million, and Jacksonville with just over 1.5 million residents. But other regions in the state, especially North Central, West Central, and North West regions, are also seeing substantial growth in all sectors of business and residential growth.

JOB MARKET One of the many reasons that Florida is expected to keep growing so fast is from marketing the state as the ideal business location. The proactive, business-friendly government in Florida is an expert at attracting new high-wage jobs for workers who can compete on a global scale. The GDP of Florida is more than $1.1 trillion

and has grown by more than 48% over the past ten years. With an unemployment rate of just 4.6%, the leisure and hospitality, information, and professional and business services sectors show the fastest signs of growth. Florida gained 84,500 total jobs in September 2021 alone and remains on a long winning streak of job creation well into 2022. Florida TaxWatch expects the labor force in Florida to increase by 2.9% in 2022. The workforce in Florida receives top rankings for #1 in innovation, #3 in size, and #4 in workforce training and high-tech employment in the U.S. There are almost 160 colleges and universities in Florida including the University of Central Florida, Florida International University, University of Florida, University of Miami, and Florida

compared to the previous year with the inventory at a low 1.3 month supply.

REAL ESTATE MARKET Home sales and prices are rising, inventory is going down, and the number of buyers paying in cash for single-family homes has increased by almost half, according to the November 2021 report from WFLA. In fact, every metropolitan area in the state has seen home prices increase by double-digits as of Q3 2021. Over the past five years, home values in Florida have increased by nearly 69%. Single-family home prices in Florida are up 17.7% as of October 2021 compared to the previous year, based on the most recent report from Florida Realtors. At the end of October 2021, active listings for single-family homes were down nearly 30%

AMENITY RICH COMMUNITY LIVING There are over 1000 golf course living and marine living communities throughout the state of Florida, literally twice as many as any other state in the country. These one-time troubling developments have found new life in a time when security and community have moved to the forefront with buyers in state and out of state. Having all the amenities at your back door has become a national agenda for buyers that has now sparked more and more facilities being developed for the first time in decades. From theme park regions to coastal living and rural Florida areas, living communities are booming. S U M M E R 2 02 2 COA S TA L H OMEL IFE.COM 55

St. Petersburg

THE SUNSHINE STATE

BY CHL STAFF

“The Market is Hot Here, But Plenty of Opportunities Still Remain” Karen O’Neill Dudley, Agile Group Realty St. Petersburg “the Sunshine City,” which glimmers between the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay, is known for its year-round sunny weather and just recently voted 2021 BEST BEACH in the United States by Trip Advisor. The city once dubbed a retirement community has undergone many major renovations in the last few decades. The downtown area is now a bustling business district by day and a hot spot of new restaurants and nightlife in the evening, all while managing to keep its identity as a welcoming beach community. One thing is for sure, St. Petersburg can no longer be considered a sleepy little town. The founding minds of the city were determined to keep the design of the downtown open and available to all and that is still evident today. With the recent completion of the city’s famed Pier the focus of the design was on creating a unique space to enjoy the natural surroundings right on Tampa Bay. 58 COASTALHOMELIFE .CO M S UM ME R 2022

Another nickname the city wears with a badge of honor and is well deserved is a “City of the Arts” as St. Pete is home to the world-renowned Salvador Dali Museum, Dale Chihuly’s Glass Studio, Mail Sail, an annual international arts festival, a public mural art project to showcase local artists and so many other events and attractions. Many people might expect that living in a balmy, beachside locale would come with a higher price tag. That’s not the case in St. Petersburg, however! The cost of living in St. Pete is right in line with the U.S. average, and the real estate in St. Petersburg is particularly affordable. With price points to fit all income levels, from an affordable second home getaway to luxury condos and single-family homes located in the heart of downtown or perfectly situated along the beaches with stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico or Tampa Bay. When you move to St. Pete, you’re joining a community

that’s serious about sustainability. St. Petersburg was designated as Florida’s first green city because of its programs dedicated to water conservation, tree planting, recycling, fuel-efficient technology. While St. Pete’s profile has grown, our sense of community and the preservation of all that makes St. Pete unique and special remains. It’s a great place to live in the Sunshine City!
