Coastal Elegance Combining Seaside and Pastoral Views by Davitt Design Build

Overlooking picturesque Mackerel Cove in Jamestown, RI, this newly built luxury home boasts over 6500 square feet of living space and is surrounded by 100 acres of beautiful coastal farmland.

The original home on the 1.84 acre lot was known as “The Seagull Farmhouse” and was built in 1670 by the son of Governor Benedict Arnold. The property has long been appreciated for its location, but the clients envisioned a home with modern amenities and spaces built to maximize indoor and outdoor enjoyment. The Davitt team carefully dismantled the original home, salvaging many of the mortice and tenon hickory beams to incorporate elements of history and charm from the original home into the new construction. Inside, the home delights with its detailed finishes seamlessly transitioning to spaces that accommodate outdoor dining and entertaining.

The exterior of the home blends the natural landscape with its cedar shake siding and board and batten clad front entry situated between a circular stair tower and arched trim moldings. Inside, a spacious foyer connects to a centralized great room with a wood burning fireplace built from stones found throughout the property.

The open concept kitchen is equipped with luxury appliances and custom cabinetry. Exposed reclaimed beams overhead add an element of rustic character and thoughtful details like the handmade tile and custom butcher block chopping area elevate the space. The great room overflows through French doors to a screened in porch equipped with a gas fireplace that accommodates outdoor dining and entertaining. The main floor is also home to a private den, dining areas, walk through butler’s pantry and separate guest quarters. The beautiful 15x30 rectangular pool and expansive patio showcase the stunning views of Mackerel Cove and the surrounding farmland.

The clients are thrilled with the results of their newly designed home in their dream location. The original antiquated home has been transformed into a bright, spacious, and breathtaking haven for friends, family, and a growing number of grandchildren to gather.
