Happy 4th! If you’re not spending the evening with a few thousand of your dearest friends at Tanglewood at the James Taylor concert, here are some ideas of what else to do. We start with fireworks. You can see them at several locations: North Adams, Noel Field, after the Steeplecats game

Lenox, Tanglewood, following the JT concert
Williamstown, The Clark Art Institute at 9p.m. Pittsfield, Pittsfield Cemetary, Wahconah Street, 9:30p.m.
In addition to fun in the sky, there’s plenty on the ground to amuse you. The Pittsfield 4th of July Parade, with the theme of “Red, White, Blue and You” steps off at 10a.m. on West Housatonic Street. There’s a 5K race beginning earlier at 8:30 starting at Wahconah Park. You must register by July 1 to participate.
Williamstown has its own parade followed by a day of appropriately celebratory events and fireworks beginning at 11a.m. If you’d prefer to see the North Adams fireworks after the air-conditioned surroundings of a train, you can take Berkshire Scenic Railway to a special reserved spot to see the show.
If you’d like to take in some culture, there are many choices. The Royal Ballet of the U.K. performs at Jacob’s Pillow, “Abe Lincoln in Illinois” is on stage at the Unicorn Theater in Stockbridge and “La Cage aux Folles” takes off its wig at Barrington Stage in Pittsfield. “A Tender Thing” is also being offered at Barrington Stage — the “what if” tale of Romeo and Juliet in old age.
“Dragon Mama” in the guise of Sara Porkalob will be emoting at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and you can be part of the experience of a Berkshire Busk! Performance at Berkshire Mountain Distillers in Sheffield. Shakespeare & Company will offer a Shakespeare Cabaret and “A Body of Water” on their outdoor stage.
If you’re looking for something quieter, museums are open and you can check out the hilarious “What, Me Worry?” exhibit at the Norman Rockwell Museum featuring the art of MAD Magazine, the Plastic Bag Store at Mass MoCA reminding us to reuse and recycle, the work of underappreciated artist “Guillaume Lethiere” is at The Clark, the annual outdoor sculpture exhibit continues at The Mount in Lenox.
If you’re up for music in an intimate venue, try the Dream Away Lodge where Jordan Weller & the Way It Seems will perform. Bobby Sweet, Brian Kantor and Miles Lally round out the band playing folk/rock.
There are plenty of other things to do this long weekend. Pittsfield’s First Fridays at Five offers music, art, food, shopping and the unexpected in the streets and parks of Pittsfield from 5 — 8p.m.
Fireworks displays, right, will light up the Berkshires tonight, with Friday offering bombast of a different kind as Andris
Local Glori Wilder is at the Dream Away Lodge in Becket, and the beloved BTU’s are at the Egremont Barn. The Back Porch series at Hancock Shaker Village — a concert and a cookout — has The Nields, a folk band playing ‘60’s classic rock and ‘90’s alternative music. Friday is Tanglewood opening night, featuring Andris Nelsons on the podium and Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony. Check out where else to hike, bike ride, eat and enjoy this long holiday weekend. This beautiful 1.5-year-old girl is Paige. Paige is hoping that there are some hound lovers out there looking for a lovely lady just like herself to take her home and enjoy her sweet and soft personality. Shelter life didn’t suit her well, so she’s currently in a foster home in the company of other hounds who are teaching her how to live the good life. She needs it after her rough start living in conditions requiring an Animal Control Officer to step in and rescue her. She loves hanging out and playing with her mentor dogs (and the resident cat is OK, too!) and she’s mostly quiet in the house. She likes to sing when she catches the hot scent of wild critters, so a home that doesn’t mind some hound-type music is a necessity for her. Paige loves to go outside on walks (she’s house-trained), and then come inside and cuddle with her foster people on the couch. She also enjoys going for rides in the car, calmly sitting or lying down in the back seat. Could Paige be the sweet lady that you’ve been looking for in life? If so, please call the kennel staff to learn more.
