The Town of Great Barrington is accepting applications from resident taxpayers age 60 and over who may be eligible to earn a real estate property tax abatement of up to $1,500 under the Senior Citizen Property Tax Work-Off Abatement Program on their next year’s tax bills (November and May of 2020). The program allows taxpayers to perform services for a Town Department in exchange for a reduction on their property tax bill.

Position assignments for qualified individuals with relevant experience and skills may be available in various Town Departments. Those who applied in 2018 or 2019 need not reapply, you will be contacted by phone for updates. The hourly rate is $12.00/hour, and there are no income or asset limitations on eligibility. Applications may be obtained from the office of the Town Manager at Town Hall during regular business hours or at the town web site www.townofgb.org. The program runs from September 2, 2019 to August 28, 2020.

The Town is looking for a part time Assistant Town Clerk to work 19 hours a week and hourly pay range is $17.00 to $18.00 per hour commensurate with experience. This position assists the Town Clerk in keeping official municipal records, issuing licenses/ certifications/ official documents, assisting in elections and Town Meeting procedures, maintaining voter registration database, processing census information and public record requests, managing transfer station permits and tags, posting meetings, updating the town website and responding to general requests from the public. The Assistant Town Clerk will serve as the Town Clerk during absences.

This non-exempt temporary position working up to 40 hours weekly during the 2019-2020 academic school year provides overall administrative support for all aspects of circulation desk coverage and basic reference assistance to students, faculty & staff. Other tasks include organizing and shelving materials, sorting mail, answering phones, and maintaining periodical collections. Candidate should be highly organized, with attention to detail, possessing strong abilities to work independently as well as with other library staff. Previous experience in a public, private or school library, and two or four year college degree required.

This position requires handon mechanical trouble-shooting and repair tasks, some of which may occasionally require working in inclement weather.
