Dapper Dan is the sweetest, goofiest and smartest boy you will ever meet! This 1.5-year-old American pit bull/ boxer mix never stops smiling or wiggling his body. Dan arrived at Berkshire Humane Society after his family moved and couldn’t take him with them. They loved Dan dearly and completed some amazing training tasks with him. He knows, “sit,” “paw,” “down,” and “come.” Berkshire Humane Kennel staff are currently working on “stay” with him and he almost has it down already! Dan is very willing to learn new things and will do anything for a cookie. He’s an extremely active young man with tons of energy to burn. He would much rather be outside running, hiking, jogging, or walking. Anything to keep him busy! Some of Dapper Dan’s favorite activities include going outside for walks, running around the shelter pen, and snuggling with his people. He has been doing well with his housetraining with only minimal accidents. Dan has lived with a dog before and could live with a large dog again following a successful dog introduction. He could also live with children aged 8+, but no cats please. If you think this smiley boy could be a great fit for you and your family, please contact the Berkshire Humane Society kennel staff

Take a climb up Music Mountain

Music Mountain’s 2024 season is the organization’s 95th programming world class chamber music. The festival, in Falls Village, Conn., takes place in one of the best sounding halls on the East Coast. The buildings on the site are of as much interest as the music. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, they were built by the Sears Roebuck prefab housing division after the festival’s founding by Jacques Gordon, the concertmaster of the Chicago Symphony from 1921-1930.

He also founded the Gordon String Quartet, a leading ensemble of its time. After his death, his son, Nicholas Gordon, himself a chamber music expert, guided and grew the festival to include teaching programs, radio broadcasts, and jazz concerts. Oskar Espina Ruiz took over the reins in 2016 and continues to grow the venerable festival.

If you’ve never been, there’s still time to catch the last performances of 2024.

Music Mountain, 225 Music Mountain Road, Falls Village, Conn.

Sunday, Sept. 8 at 3 p.m.

The Merz Trio is an ensemble of three women who have gained acclaim as both performers and programmers. Their Music Mountain show, “Alma Mahler Goes West,” features works from the eponymous Austrian composer and a handful of others. The show will be preceded by a free-to-attend talk at 2 p.m. by Joseph Horowitz, author of “The Marriage: The Mahlers in New York.”

In search of region’s best cider doughnut

BerkshiresWeek

Preferences for apple cider doughnuts are very personal. Sugared or plain, warm or room temperature — as long as you’re clear on your criteria, you’re bound to find the perfect fall confection at one of Berkshire County’s orchards. Each spot has it’s own approach to the classic fall treat. Make a day of it and try a doughnut-to-doughnut tour to multiple farms and orchards to see which one you like the best. These are some we recommend.
