The Town of Great Barrington is accepting applications from resident taxpayers age 60 and over who may be eligible to earn a real estate property tax abatement of up to $1,500 under the Senior Citizen Property Tax Work-Off Abatement Program on their next year’s tax bills (November and May of 2020). The program allows taxpayers to perform services for a Town Department in exchange for a reduction on their property tax bill. Position assignments for qualified individuals with relevant experience and skills may be available in various Town Departments. Those who applied in 2018 or 2019 need not reapply, you will be contacted by phone for updates. The hourly rate is $12.00/hour, and there are no income or asset limitations on eligibility.
